A bit disappointing

Posted Mar 20, 2017
Pros: Location is good, room service was of a high quality and hotel reception were happy and accommodating
Cons: The rooms are very "tired". Beds are hard and uncomfortable, the pillows felt as if they had exceeded their ten year replacement guarantee period.
Location: Good restaurants and beach nearby at Karon.
The hotel is need of some tender loving care. Disappointed to have caught a bout of gastroenteritis from a restaurant within the hotel on our second day. Good reception and hotel staff were happy to accommodate our early arrival and late departure from the hotel.

Nice hotel near beach

Beautiful grounds. Very well kept. Rooms and bathrooms in main building could use a little upgrading. Great staff , very helpful. Would definitely recommend.

Great hotel and resort, very bad staff

Posted Feb 28, 2017
Pros: The location of the hotel and the resort itself are great. Very close to the beach and shops/massage parlors.
Cons: Getting rid of the mosquitos. I had tens in my room. There has to be a way, I am sure given the luxury of the hotel they can come up with something.
Please be careful with the villas around the lake; this will bring a lot of mosquitos in your room. The best the hotel can do is bug spray. The biggest problem however is the staff. I've encountered two major issues with them and felt that I had no one to talk to about these issues, as the problems repeated themselves over and over again, no matter who I spoke to. 1. Although I paid for a premium villa and put a DND sign on the door, I got woken up every morning because the staff decided to use the water system in my villa to pull water for the entire lawn. The water pressure was so high that it made a big noise in the bathroom. I reported this problem but got ignored. 2. The English the staff has is poor. They could not understand my request. That's why I probably got woken up or the same reason. 3. When asking for help to call for a taxi, the concierge was unprofessional and felt quite amateur. They just started laughing at me for no reason. Then they called another staff member who also started laughing. It felt ridiculous. Overall a negative experience. Hotel felt over-priced for the value.

OK but could do better

Posted Feb 23, 2017
Pros: Location
Cons: Pool, food prices and service.
Location: Beach activities incl paragliding and boat trips
We stayed for a week and found the location ideal being at the quieter end of Karon Beach. The first impression is a mix of thinking tradition and dated. The room was a good size with a view out to sea but we had to persevere to have the room asked for. The staff are friendly although not always on top of the job. The pool is a major problem with no hand rails but steep steps down to a pool with few standing places as it is mostly deep and with sloping tiled areas. Conclusion is for less mobile people it is a problem. The buffet breakfast is fine but space is an issue in the food areas. Other meals are expensive for what they are and most people choose to eat out. Even a simple warm apple pie and ice cream was served to us cold without ice cream. There is a big daily turnover so one day it may be quiet and another crowded. The clientele is a pleasant mix of people across the age range from Russia, Germany, Scandinavia and some from the UK.

Excellent hotel with good location

Posted Jan 11, 2017
It's our 2nd time to visit this hotel and we spent 3 nights here this time in December 2016. We were happily greeted by the front desk with a welcome drink and the check-in went very smoothly and quickly. We love the centralized location and the friendly neighbourhood (the shops and night market in the Karon village). Our room package includes breakfast - the variety seems a bit less compare with our 1st visit which was a year ago but we are still happy with it. I booked the basic superior room and surprisingly got into a room with a plunge pool on the roof top - this is really out of my expectation! Our room seems like recently renovated. Although I didn't really use the plunge pool much, I really love this hotel and definitely will be back!

Lovely resort. Excellent location.

Posted Jan 1, 2017
We checked in late at night and the hotel staff was very accommodating while checking us in. We were greeted with flowers and a welcome drink. However they wanted 5k thb cash advance towards any in-hotel expenditure. While this seemed a little high (we were carrying only 40k for 4 or 5 days) it wasn't a problem for us. This is just FYI. The hotel room was a king size sea view room. And while the room itself was very good, we had an issue with the bathroom. The shower was difficult to set on any temperature and even once set, it would send jets of hot and cold water intermittently. The sink is designed to ensure that water falls out leaving a dripping counter. The bathroom didn't have an exhaust and was equipped with only toilet paper, whereas most Asian people prefer a water source. This I believe should have been accommodated into the bathroom. The mirror above the sink is also a window into the room and can be opened from both sides as there is no locking system.. This was not a problem for a couple like us. But beware if you have kids/family in the room. In my opinion, there should be a system to lock the mirror-door-window whatever from the inside of the bathroom. The view was amazing and we overlooked the pool and pool bar. And had a lovely view of the ocean. The hotel breakfast is an amazing spread with even honey right on the honey comb which was simply fascinating. It has large grounds and is connected on both the karon beach side and the main market.

Nice hotel cos to the beach and restaurants

Posted Dec 29, 2016
Pros: Across the road from the beach and not to far from the restaurants and shops
Cons: Towels on the sunlounges alll day
Location: close to everything, just opposite the beach
The hotel was nice and rooms where comfortable . But I found it hard to get a chair around the pool , people leave ther towels on the sunlounges all day , this should be discouraged .... Maybe by having there pool/beach towels in there rooms...the hotel is so big 500 m walk to the beach which is fantastic just across the road.....

Thank you for choosing Movenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach as your accommodation choice during your recent stay in Phuket, and for taking the time to give us your feedback. I am also sorry to hear that you encountered difficulties with the sun lounge at the pool especially during the peak period. We are aware that the current ones might not have solved our problem. When the hotel is booked at capacity, all customers are using sun lounge and we find that similar comments about insufficient sun lounges are not the norm. However your comment has been discussed with management and has made plans for 2017 budget additions. Apart from the area you mentioned, I sincerely hope that overall your experience with us was an enjoyable one, and I hope that you will consider staying with us again when your travels next bring you to Phuket. Thanks and best regards.
