Pleasantly Surprised

Posted Aug 19, 2015
Pros: Free parking, handy kitchenette, cheerful & friendly staff
Staff takes customer service seriously: we had a tricky reservation but front desk folks did everything possible to create a smooth check-in and easy check-out. Room was comfortable, clean, quiet, and spacious. Neighborhood is perfect for light shopping or a meal if you want to stay on foot, and not too far from downtown Pittsburgh if you plan to explore. So glad we found this gem - would stay again and recommend highly!

Apartment Hotel close to Carnegie Mellon

Posted Aug 11, 2015
Pros: The managers were nice. We even received a gift bag when we checked in.
Cons: The bed was too small for two and not comfortable. We had to park on gravel. Laundry facilities would have been good.
Location: My daughter enjoyed walking and jogging down Walnut St. There are a couple of shops and places to eat on this street.
The hotel seems like a collection of apartment buildings spread around the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh. The one we stayed in was old and had its charm. The apartment was clean and had a kitchen, so we could have made our meals if we had time or stayed longer. The neighborhood seemed safe - we weren't afraid to walk around.

Spacious and residential, stay like a local.

The reception staff and shuttle service was great, room was spacious but dusty and unclean. Kitchen and appliance needed cleaning and washing.

Nice hotel in a nice neighborhood!

Posted Aug 4, 2015
Pros: Our room was one of their signature suites in a restored mansion in a great quiet location!
Cons: A more comfortable bed, though it was far from the worst I've slept on!
Location: Plenty of restaurants and shopping nearby on Walnut St and it's not a far drive to Oakland, Downtown, Squirrel Hill or the Waterfront.
Great suite hotel in a great location. The full kitchen came in handy and the staff were especially helpful. Great perks for Expedia+ members also!

Good if you need more room, bathroom not so great

Posted Jul 13, 2015
Location: Centrally located in Shadyside, just steps away from shops and restaurants and conveniences, plus it's easy to get to other places from there.
Shadyside Inn is a nice place to stay if you need something more like an apartment than a hotel room. This is good for extended stays or if, like me, you need a place only for a short while but want to have somewhere with a living room, separate bedroom, and little kitchenette. Nice hardwood floors, comfortable furniture and bed, free wifi and local phone calls, and it's a nice quiet place in a residential district. That said, there are some downsides. Basically, these are old apartment buildings converted into hotel suites; and there's a certain "old apartment building" feel to it (at least in the property I stayed in -- they have several, so YMMV). The worst part of this was the bathroom: think, tiny cramped shower-over-bath with old pink ceramic tile on the wall and a plastic shower curtain; not a very luxurious experience. Similarly, the metal closet doors painted white were less than appealing, and the little kitchenette, while functional, left something to be desired. One other note -- the front desk was in a wholly separate location from the building where my suite was located, which is fine, but it would have been good to know this BEFORE I lugged my suitcase up the steps and into the building for no purpose whatsoever. Still, a good place to say if you need more than a standard hotel room and want to feel more like you're kind of at home, and the staff was friendly and helpful. I'd recommend it, so long as you can tolerate a lousy bathroom.
