Nice affordable hotel - but with compromises

Posted Jan 6, 2017 on Hotels
We stayed in room 4 for 4 nights. It has a queen size bed, 2 tables, two garden chairs, 3 barstools, 1 couch, a wall shelf & an unenclosed small bar hangers to hang clothes with. The kitchenette, dining space and bedroom form one large room. The kitchenette has a fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee machine (no filters) and a sink, liquid dish soap, pots and a frying pan, plates & bowls, utensils for 4 people and a portable electric cook top with 2 heating elements. The A/C is supplied with electricity only from 6pm-8am. The owner charges US$15 per day extra if you want to have the A/C for all day. No toilet paper is to be thrown in the toilet and has to be disposed in the bin provided. It is because the ground water level is only approx. 1.5 ft deep and thus the plumbing has a very shallow angle and clogs easily. The bathroom has a shower. Only complimentary soap is provided, no shampoo or conditioner. The housed has a small 3rd level sun deck with obstructed views of the ocean and bay. It is only a 3min walk to a beautiful and uncrowded beach where you can swim. We almost had the beach to ourselves. During the day, you can hear noise from the street as the hotel is located on the only road in and out of town – it is not a busy road, however. Traffic noise died down shortly after sunset. Long story short: This is a nice and affordable hotel in Placencia. It is close to the beach and if street noise during the day does not bother you, then this hotel may be for you.

Rooms are clean and no-frill. The wifi reception within the room is very poor; it is often necessary to go to outside seating area to get reception on an iPad or iPhone. The owner will charge extra for using the air conditioning. Overall, it is decent choice for the value-oriented consumer in Placencia.

The Perfect Location

Posted Jan 11, 2015
Pros: Very clean, enough kitchen appliances to make a meal if necessary. Hotplate was provided.
Cons: Please leave a few coffee filters for the new guests. Not much of a complaint, but sure would be handy!
Location: Diving, swimming, sunning on the beach, snorkeling, many, many excellent restaurants [don't miss the rib-eye steak at Cozy Corner!] Shops.
Arrived after a marathon red-eye flight, and the long speed bump infested drive to a very clean, albeit spartan, room. Alas, it's late and the A/C doesn't work! The manager, a VERY nice, helpful man said he would try to get it fixed the next day. But remember, this is--Belize! Amazing man, he got it fixed! The hotel location is on the outskirts of town, allowing easy walking to eateries, stores, what have you. But it is far enough out of the main area to be quiet at night. It is also only 500 yards from the white Caribbean sandy beach. The times we were down there we could see a mile of white sandy beach--and we were the only ones on it. Amazing place. We would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Great place to stay

This place is a true "gem." The rooms are spotless and well maintained which we found to be unusual in Belize. The staff was friendly, helpful, and courteous. Beach easily accessible. A short walk to the main part of town (500 yards).

Very clean basic accommodation.

This basic accommodation is kept immaculately clean and tidy. There is a small fridge, microwave oven and sink. The owner, Michel, is very friendly and helpful. The only downside is road noise.

Placencia "hotel" - STAY AWAY!

Posted Mar 30, 2013
Pros: Parking spot
Cons: Everything else
Location: Noisy, hot, no redeeming features.
If this was a 3-star hotel, I would hate to even see a 1-star hotel. Positives: Parking space in front. Negatives: No amenities whatsoever. No services, like towels or bedding for a 4 day stay. No view. No beach, even on a narrow peninsula. Noisy highway. No charm with bleak gravel lot, no landscaping, cinder-block square building. Nasty owners smoking upstairs.

Enjoyed having a fridge in the room and being able to use wifi in the room. Room was clean. Would like to have used the coffeemaker, but the outlet didn't work.

Thanks for positive review although we are surprised about the tittle of the comment. We feel sorry coffeemaker was not operational, but if nobody reports it we cannot remedy it.

If you want service, go somewhere else!

Posted Dec 2, 2012
Pros: it was a clean bed
Cons: worst service ever
Staff is completely disconnected. All they cared about was getting their money. Do not expect any kind of amenities. This is a room with a rack and restroom. Anything else will be extra. We made a reservation for our family. 4 people (2 adults and 2 kids) paid for that reservation in advance. When we arrived, after a very long trip from the airport, when everything else was closed, we were told that we had to pay an extra amount of $30 BZD in cash for the 2 Kids. Its not a crazy amount, but that seemed kinda nickle and dimey to me. If you want A/C, $30 cash. Not at all friendly, just hey this is what we charge so take it or leave it. We were tired and hungry so we paid it just to get to our room. We were in Belize for a week, and when we would pass by here, there was never anyone there. I think I know why. Do not stay here, its very disappointing.
