Pros: The food, service, staff, entertainment, activities and so much more.
Cons: Don't put people in harms way of the construction. At least give them a heads up on whats going on.
Location: There's just about any water activities you can think of. Also not to mention some of the best archaeological sites you can visit nearby.
If it wasn't for the construction going on at the time I was there, I'd give it a 100% rating. I can't wait to go back once the construction is finished . The staff is great, the place is clean, and there is a lot to do so you are never bored, you just wish you had more time.

Staff was really nice. My only complaint is the beds were extremely hard and very uncomfortable.

ripped off

Posted Sep 3, 2017
Pros: some hotel staff were very nice
Cons: see above
Location: unable to go swimming as lots of sharp rocks in sand lots of people walking on crutches with bandaged up legs and ankles where they have been cut
on arrival at this hotel despite booking a standard double with balcony or terrace they insisted that our room was a room with no windows at all and no balcony or terrace, the only way we could get a window and balcony was to pay an additional £790 there and then at check in which I had to put on my barcleycard. having spoken during the holiday to other guests they ALL had the same problem they give out out the worst possible rooms so you either sleep in a cupboard with two three foot beds and not enough room to put your suitcase on the floor between them as the room is so small and is overlooking the garbage cans and the noisy aircon units are right outside the front door there is absoulutely nothing to do apart from a few games in the pool in the daytime you might as well go to bed at 7,30 every night again we think this is a ploy to save money on evening drinks. I have travelled a lot and this is the worst place we have ever been to little or no evening entertainment.worst place we have ever stayed nothing to do and outside trips are £100 per person whichever one you go on definitely avoid

Nice Hotel but NO beach !

Posted Aug 28, 2017
Pros: Room was always in check ! Great maid service, Love the towel service , help yourself :)
Cons: Fix the beach, I know its alot to ask but , you cant even swim in it.
Location: Location is great ! Get the Walkout Room ,Get the access to They Royal, every restaurant at The Royal was perfect ! Service , food, and atmosphere !
I recommend the Walkout suite, this way you have access to The Royal across the street. If your American its hard to communicate with most of the staff at Gran Porto, at the Royal it was Much ,Much better communicating. Right after we checked in, Which was fast and easy with the Royal Package, we realized my wife left her phone in our Private SuperShuttle Van, Just the four of us were in it. We told our Concierge to call the the company, send the van back, she did , they said they cant reach the driver and to call back in 5 hours ! It took 40 minutes to get to the hotel from the airport , why 5 Hours ?? Needless to say , I- Phone 7 was gone !!! They could have demanded the driver to turn around and come back, But she didnt. For 2 days they were jack hammering outside our room , they closed one of the restaurants for repairs.

Horrible Experience! Will Never Come Back!

Posted Aug 24, 2017
Pros: Nothing, the food is horrible, all the restaurants there were pretty bad. Service is bad, and management is also not helpful at all.
Cons: Do not make promised that they cannot keep. Management attitude and communications to customers needs to be improved.
Location: We just went to the cenote near by, didn't have time to exploresince we're stuck in the room for a few hours, which we planed to explore around.
My husband and I were there for a couple of days after our wedding, we booked for a king/queen size bed on Expedia, and were told that we book a double bed, already a bad start there. The next day, we came back from the Cenote, hope to take a shower, then relax, we entered the hotel room and found there're no electricity, the room is pitch black, with no AC and no hot water. So not only we can't take a shower, we'll have to open the room door so we can get some light, the room was so hot without AC, and we can't even sleep because they're doing construction next to the room, the constant banging on the ground is so loud, we can't possibly sleep. I called down to the front desk and there are no extra rooms available so they can't switch us, just offered us a $50 resort credit. We've waited in our room for a good 2-3 hours before the electricity finally back on. At which time, we've already wasted our afternoon plan of relaxing. Then we walked downstairs to the front desk just to confirm that we have a $50 resort credit before we go out to dinner. The lady in the front desk said it's credited to our room. So we went off to hotel restaurant for dinner and ordered a a bottle of Moscato (apparently worth $52), I would never have order any moscato for this price, but figure I have a $50 resort credit, so I did it. Next day when check out, they charged us $52 for the moscato, told us there were no $50 credit in our room. Forced us to pay or they'll call police!

2nd time staying here and still amazing

Posted Aug 20, 2017
I gave Gran Porto 4/5 stars because: 1. The staff, the staff, the staff. They make this place what it is. Very friendly, helpful, happy to help, humble, makes me believe that they're happy all the time ( which I know is probably not the case, but it's a nice vibe, and contagious). 2. The all inclusive amenities are great, the food, the variety, the spa (includes jacuzzi, vapor room (108F), sauna (122F), cold plunge (60F) amazing). 3. The cleanliness of everything, bathrooms, restaurants, rooms (housekeeping is awesome), responsiveness of staff is also quick! 4. The beach isn't nice unfortunately, it's rocky and full of seaweed. The seaweed is probably due to the ferry ports that have been recently built, and obstruct the natural flow of the water and ocean waste, this makes it accumulate on the shore. The city cleans it up daily, but as they are bunching it up, it creates this smell that's not very pleasing. So they're attempting to fix it, but nature always wins. If you want a nice beach, head to Playa Mamitas about 3/4 mile east. 5. Location. It's right in the heart of the touristy area, la Quinta avenida (5th ave), which is where all the shops are (with an American twist, you'll find forever 21 and urban outfitters, etc) and dining. You're going to be hustled by everyone working the stands to buy lol. I don't think I mentioned this, but these people are hustlers, they like to work hard and are good at it! It used to be a bit more culturally genuine, but money wins.
