gorgeous resort

I've been to a lot of places but this one tops them all. The place, the staff & the food was awesome. So much to see & do in such little time. All inclusive is so well worth it. The waiter at Azul Alfonso was so attentive & gracious!!! I can't say enough about the massage at the spa. She was awesome!!! Everything was awesome from the moment we arrived until our departure. My granddaughters couldn't believe the awesome room service & all the excursions were exceptional.

Gorgeous property. Felt extremely safe.

Had an exceptional stay in the Zen resort. Wish I had known it wasn’t on the beach, but the 24/7 shuttle to the other property was fast and convenient. Alfonso at Azul was the best!!! He always remembered our names and that my daughter is vegan.

Grand Velas Riviera Maya is safe, beautiful and the perfect family vacation location. This was our first trip to Mexico, but after that, not our last. The staff is what separates this place from all others we’ve been to. They were helpful, happy and funny! We had the time of our life.

Gorgeous facilities, great staff, bad management

Pros: Facilities, restaurants.
Cons: Better beach, better whole-day entertainment for kids, if you close the spa, offer some compensation.
First, the good: the hotel itself is gorgeous, the dinners are fantastic, the staff is friendly and helpful. Now the bad: We came around the Labor Day to discover that: the spa was closed for renovations (no advance warnings, no meaningful compensation offered), no evening shows (because "low season"), the beach unusable (because the sand has been washed away, and because of the sharp rocks we could not walk into the water more than knee-deep). The kids' room offers only basic indoor entertainment (the staff is great, but there is only that much they can do when confined to one room) and does not offer food, so we had to take the kids with us for meals. During out stay, they started some on-site renovations, so there were ugly plywood walls right by the main pool. The rooms are great, but provide no means to dry swimwear. They charge a lot to have the rooms connected even when the hotel is empty (and Expedia fails to mention it). We came to the hotel because of the ratings, thinking that the great experience would justify the high price, and ended up being hugely disappointed. One can have a better experience for half the price.

Firstly, I wish to apologize for not living up to the high expectations that you brought with you on this trip to Grand Velas. Although travel during these periods is considered the low season, many responsible hotels invest in refurbishing and remodeling their facilities, just as we were doing. But another responsibility of any hotel is to ensure that each guest that visits us during these times feels that they receive excellent value for their investment, and again, I apologize for leaving you with that blemish on this trip. I hope that you can one day return with us and enjoy to the fullest all the updates and improvements that we have accomplished so far this season.
