Superior quality resort that needs a few "tweeks"

Pros: Overall quality, friendly staff, cleanliness .
Cons: Updating some of the rooms, provide a semiprivate area for the daytime activities , expand common beach sitting area, evening dance outdoors.
The resort is very nice, staff quite friendly and helpful. The food was plentiful and of better quality than other all inclusives. The specialty restaurants are good and the wine there is better. I would avoid however the taco place in the mall; not horrible, just below average. Some of the rooms are in need of upgrading. They are however very clean and the staff responds promptly to any problems. There are a lot of pools, cleaned regularly and for every taste. The beach is somewhat small for a crowded resort. There are extra special places with beds for the priority club that were almost all empty. Security had to reinforce the no unattended towel seat reservations and this created quite a lot of tension one day. Overall Iberostar delivers the quality we have come to expect.

A Good Holiday trip

Pros: The activities for the kids was good.
Cons: Can't think of a thing.
Location: We stayed on the property but there were activities available if you were interested, ruins, water activies like snorkeling and scuba diving, etc.
We go to that area every year with our daughter's family and chose Iberostar this year. We loved the facility with the wave pool and lazy river for the kids and enjoyed the beach too. With five hotels in that area we could eat at any of the restaurants for each meal. The food was good and we'll be looking for Iberostar's to stay at again.

Nice hotel but staff needs more training

Pros: Very nice rooms, beautiful grounds, pools, and beach.
Cons: Staff training in restaurants and activities (volleyball).
My family has been to Iberostar hotels the previous three years (Cancun) though Iberostar Maya was a little disappointing as the staff was not as good as the Iberostar Cancun. The Italian restaurant was our least favorite as the dishes were poorly prepared (alfredo sauce was terrible) and waiter mixed orders. The gourmet restaurant would have been good except for a horrible service captain who also was our waiter. We changed our reservation for seven people to an earlier time (by same service captain) which was great but his attitude was very off-putting when we arrived. My nephew is 12 (though looks younger), he kept questioning us as though we were lying about his age. He then indicated that he is very busy with other tables and we would need to wait for service - he was rude to family members, particularly my nephew when he took his dinner order "what do YOU want?" Even my nephew commented to me how rude the waiter/captain was to him. Our experience in the gourmet restaurant influenced me to cancel my other reservation for that restaurant. In terms of the activities staff, I thought the beach volleyball was not well organized. The beach volleyball never started on time (often 30-40 minutes late) and when there was a staff member there, they were often not helpful - I stood with other guests waiting to play while staff were playing in the game (should have let guests take their spot on the beach volleyball game).

Everything was wonderful.

Clean. Staff continuously cleans. Food was great. Everything is beautiful, Check-in and check-out was quick and easy. Staff was friendly, polite and eager to make your stay the best. Dressel Divers dive operation on the resort was excellent.

Incredible complex with a wealth of amenities

Pros: The Staff was extremely attentive & very welcoming in ALL areas.The grounds were just beautiful. The Entertainment staff created a very fun atmosphere
Cons: Room furniture was just starting to show its age. The rooms were kept very clean though and still were very nice.
Location: The resort had plenty to do as the size of the property provided many opportunities to eat, drink, and play.
Our family of 5, all adults, had a fantastic vacation at the Iberostar Paraiso Maya. We took advantage of all of the wonderful amenities -- from restaurants, buffets, pools, beach, bars, shops that the resort had to offer both on the Maya and Lindo side. We would definitely return there again.

Very nice All inclusive experience.

Pros: Best all inclusive experience ever! Staff is amazing.
Location: Perfect location, 15 min to Paya del Carmen for a nice shopping experience.
It's been a while from my last stay at an All inclusive hotel, and it's usually and mostly because I like to experience different types of local food and activities. This particular time I went with a group and I didn't have very much to say when picking up the hotel to stay at but my friends said they've been to Paraiso Maya and it's been always great. They weren't wrong! The amount of restaurants to choose from is unbelievable and types of cuisine from all over the world, the buffets are big and with good selections for every type of person, vegetarian, meat lover, seafood lover, etc. You can ask for any type of drink at all of their bars and they'll make it for you, even the craziest of drinks. Regarding activities they have them all, just think what you want to do and they have it. Can't wait to go back.

Cons: The food needs to be improved.
Different type of hotel experience than I have had before. Iberostar has five different hotels all right next to each other. I was at the Paraiso Maya, which apparently is second from the top. You can go to any resort below your level, for anything, including food. You can only eat at hotels your level or below but you can still go to the pools (except for The Grand). Frankly the Lindo appeared to be nicer and both the Lindo and Del Mar were far more lively. There were more things to do at those properties than ours as well. If you are looking for more entertainment, I wouldn't pay for anything above those. The rooms are also not very different between these three properties, so really not worth the upcharge. We were disappointed in the food. It was generally very bland, and I do not like heat (I do like flavor and there wasn't any) so that speaks volumes. Everyone in our group (10+) agreed about the food. Overall, the staff was friendly and helpful. Everything was clean and well maintained. I said "no" to recommendation based on the food and "bang for your buck". I think you can do better for the money.

Great time

Pros: The beach, the pools and the ability to go to a different pool when one is too crowded.
Cons: My wife and I agreed that the food hadn't gotten worse and there was more than enough to chose from. If you left a meal hungry it's your own fault.
Location: We've done most of the touristy things already but we visited Coba this time. Nice and a much shorter day than Chichen Itza but it's much smaller.
This is our 3rd time here over the last 10 years. Parts are showing age but to their credit they are repainting/repairing rooms, at least they were in the building we were in, and the vast majority of the resort looks very nice. No complaints. Our maids took care of us very well, we got to eat dinner at all the restaurants we wanted when we wanted and anything we asked for we received. We saw the Cirque show at a resort nearby. Hadn't seen one before and didn't know what to expect. Fantastic show. Suggest not doing the dinner and just do the appetizers. Book it early. We barely got in the last day we were there.

Beautiful hotel

All I have been able to think about since leaving is when I will be able to return again. The hotel grounds are beautiful and felt very safe and well lit at night. There are so many things to do that we didn't even need to leave the hotel the whole time we were there. There are activities for kids and adults at the beach and pool area during the day, shows and other activities at night. I liked the fact that, even though the alcohol was unlimited, I did not see any rowdiness or crude behavior. The food was delicious at the buffets, and the service was incredible. Everyone went out of their way to make sure we wanted for nothing. Bernardo at the Mexican buffet (can't remember the restaurant s name off the top of my head) was awesome and took great care of us. He was friendly, helpful, and made sure we had a good time. I was actually surprised a place could be so much fun for a young couple with no kids, and at the same time be appropriate for families. We had a great time and I can't wait to go back!
