The Hotel

Posted Feb 6, 2018
Pros: Some of the staff were a pleasure to deal with.
Cons: House keeping was horrendous.
Location: As with all resorts in this area, there are many excursions to do.
This hotel should not be classified as an all inclusive. Unless you pay $25.00 per day per person extra when you arrive you do not get a coffee pot, internet, access to all bars, premium liquor. You are charged for certain restaurants. Our room was not ready when we arrived and would not be until the following day. Bar beside hotel plays loud music on weekends till 4am. Would not recommend this hotel

3.5 That does not live up to rating!

Posted Feb 6, 2018
Pros: Pool area was nice, pool staff were friendly, rooms clean, the Buffet staff were good. Qaulity of buffet was good, and 2 of 3 restaurants good
Cons: Management needs to realize client is first and happy experience will generate repeat business. Need to replace mattresses which are firm like a Board
Location: Location is close to 5th avenue shops and access to other attractions by taxi. However beach fronts onto Boat moorings so not safe or enjoyable.
While the staff were for the most part courteous it at times felt like the Bar staff were new to Mixing drinks and you never knew from one drink to the other exactly what you were getting, also maybe teach the Bartenders that not everyone is trying to overdose on the first drink and an ounce of alcohol is ok. When we arrived we were informed that all inclusive did not include all the A'laCarte Restaurants, or Coffee machine in room plus no top shelf Alcohol so we negotiated with them for the Premium Package. They were quick to take the additional money but not so much on the extra's which are listed on their website and should have included a coffee pot with coffee each morning, fully stocked bar fridge refreshed each day, restaurants and top shelf Alcohol. My wife and I are retired so we don't drink that much in anycase other than when we do, we like the Top Shelf offerings, and do enjoy the Restaurants as Buffet food gets tiresome. We did not receive daily fridge refreshment for 9 of our 10 day stage and no coffee for 6 of the 10 days despite repeatedly reminding them to which they acknowledged you but the very next day did not deliver, even despite our approaching Management. An adjoining property played super loud music the first Saturday which went on until 4:00 AM which disturbed all in the Hotel but especially the west wing which was right next to property, no warning, no apology or anything when the Hotel new this event was happening beforehand and a monthly occurance.

Nice Hotel for the Money

Posted Jan 22, 2018
Pros: The size was small so everything was close to the room.
Cons: The rooms could use some updates.
Location: Easy walk to downtown. Close drive to many excursions.
This Hotel could use some updates in the rooms. We had trouble with the lights & climate control in the room. It is a very small Hotel that has 5 dining options and 5 bars. Something to eat and drink all the way into early morning. The staff was very friendly. I would recommend it to other guests that want to have an economical getaway.

Dear Miranda, We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your review and for giving us the opportunity to welcome you the past days. Indeed, our wonderful position nearby the 5th Avenue allows you to reach the heart of Playa del Carmen in a few minutes. Moreover, our hotel is still situated in a quiet area as we aim to provide recreative holidays in combination with mobility. We greatly appreciate your comments about aspects of the room that need updating. It is a pleasure to announce that we will be implementing many of these upgrades to the property within the next couple of months and that five villas had already been remodeled. In taking great care of our charming hotel, our main priority is to be able to offer a very well-maintained and comfortable atmosphere. We are very proud of our staff who works hard to ensure that our guests are feeling comfortable and have everything they may need for a memorable stay. When their efforts are acknowledged it makes all their work worthwhile and so we will be delighted to share your kind comments with them. We hope to welcome you back to our hotel. Kind regards,

Enjoyed The Reef Coco Beach

Posted Jan 12, 2018
Will definitely go back to this hotel. Beautiful blue waters on a nice sandy beach. The facilities are great the food is wonderful the staff are very friendly. We especially loved walking into town. Only negative comments would be a dripping vent from the air conditioner in our room, we had to put towels on the floor underneath it and loud music heard from the place next-door late at night. Will book on the north side of the hotel next time. A special thank you to the dive shop for helping me get my diving certification a great bunch of guys :)

Very Nice and quiet but poor room quality

Posted Jan 11, 2018
Pros: was very peaceful on beach or pool area.
Cons: rooms and buffet quality
Location: fishing, diving, 5th ave shopping
Could not ask for a better place to spend on the beach but the rooms are very dated and the hotel next to it plays very loud music until 2 am every night! Buffet was average but Italian and Samurai restaurant were excellent. If I stayed here again I would make sure to get a room on the north or west side of resort away from the noisy hotel.

Looks great from the outside...

Posted Jan 6, 2018
The Reef seems like it’s going to be a great place to stay. The grounds are beautiful and the staff is quite friendly and professional. The rooms are worn down. I upgraded to the premium package and all that extra $19 a day got me was WiFi . The room amenities weren’t worth it and the “premium drinks” were gross. No fresh juice in anything!!! The only restaurant on property that was decent was the one by the pool that’s open all day. The Mexican restaurant was disgusting. I couldn’t tell what some of the food was. I realize that with an all inclusive resort the food may not be Michelin status but I expected it to be decent enough that I wouldn’t have to leave the property because that was my reasoning for staying at an all inclusive resort. The buffet was ok but I ended up only eating breakfast at the resort and going out for dinner. Luckily on Calle 38, a street a block or two away, there were plenty of great restaurants and bars. I spent my evenings hanging with locals at a few places on that block.

Not bad , not great

Posted Dec 31, 2017
So much loud music . Starts at the pool blasting at 8:30 am. Then at night the next door place cannibal blasts dance music so loud it shook our room until 230am every night. Only 6 hours of quite per night . Buffet breakfast was ok , the other restaurants suck. Having al the boats at the beach ruins the swimming area too . Staff were all great! The place is starting to fall apart tiles popping off everywhere .

Dear creztopher, Thank you for writing this review about your stay with us. We are saddened to read that you did not enjoy your stay at the hotel and we regret that we were not able to meet your expectations. We are very proud of our staff who works hard to ensure that our guests are feeling comfortable and have everything they may need for a memorable stay. When their efforts are acknowledged it makes all their work worthwhile and so we will be delighted to share your kind comments with them. We would like to mention that Playa del Carmen is a fishing village. Even before the hotel was built the boats had been in the sea in front of the hotel and unfortunately we are not allowed to remove them from there. The law makes it very difficult for us to take actions. Besides this, the hotel is always promoted with real images from our beach in every website. We are sorry to know about the noise coming from the bar next door. Please note that we always offer room changes to guests that feel their room is noisy to the other side of the hotel so that they can enjoy their stay. We sincerely hope that you give us the chance to host you in the future. We assure you that we will do all what we can to meet all your expectations. Kind regards,

We had a good time, it was affordable but the food and especially the juices need real work. There was no real cranberry and orange juice during the day the juices they served were nasty! But I give them 3 stars everything else was ok.
