The food was pretty good with a lot of options. The staff was incredibly nice and efficient. The biggest complaint would be the facility itself and the rooms. The beds were prehistoric and like sleeping on a concrete block. The maid services were incredibly loud in the morning and would roll their carts up and down the hallways banging on each door at 7am and waiting about 4 seconds before letting themselves into the room. That was incredibly annoying and continued to happen so sleeping at this hotel was impossible.

Nice hotel, nice pools, nice beech

stayed here1 week good time, lot's of everything you need, food, drinks, lounging chairs, at check in was not given enough information about ala carte restaurants, when we found them they're great.

Beautiful hotel with amazing beach.

Pros: Everything, can't think of one thing we didn't like.
Cons: More cookies during afternoon coffee.
Location: Two minute walk to Starbucks and shopping plaza. Short cab ride to downtown Playa del Carmen.
We spent 11 days at the Viva Wyndham Maya Resort and had one of the best vacations ever. The staff were so friendly and the service was excellent. Please tip them as they work extremely hard to serve you. Even the slightest amount is greatly appreciated. There were so many choices at the buffet and snack bar. Do not believe any bad reviews about food. A la carte restaurants were amazing with 6-7 course meals, if you can eat it all. We liked the Mexican bestl. Be sure to sit outside, the setting is wonderful. Surprisingly, they decorated and had turkey at the buffet on Thanksgiving for Americans. It was so nice because we were really missing our traditional dinner. The resort is just beautiful with a jungle like feel throughout. It is not too big with an adult pool away from kids and noise, so peaceful. There is so much to do at this resort including trapeze and all water activities. The entertainment staff and shows were wonderful! They include the kids in some of the shows too which is adorable and fun. The beach was breathtaking with crystal clear water. Plenty of chairs both sun and shade with palm trees. I can't say enough good things about this resort. Already planning to go back next year! Thank you for such an awesome vacation!!

Close to beach, that’s it....

Only good thing about this hotel was the close walk from the hotel to the beach. Food was great as well. Internet service sucks! No free WiFi, and even if u pay the 35 bucks a week for internet service, it still doesn’t work. Rooms are super tiny and the hotel doesn’t invest much to make the rooms look nice. It stormed 3 out is the 7 days we were there. And the excursions are a rip off, we opted to go on a snorkeling trip, which ended up being on a boat for 2 hrs and snorkeling for 15 mins in the water. I paid 344 for my family of 4 and feel like the trip wasn’t worth what I paid. Overall, will not be staying in the same hotel again....

Terrible food, staff not we'll versed.

Check in was very difficult due to lack of staff that spoke English. They charged additional money to use the room safe. Drinking was not allowed in the main pool and they were very rude about it. Only 3 dinner reservations were allowed and the buffett was terriable. The same food was served at the buffett every day. We actually left the resort to go eat die to the terrible food. It was diffcult to find anything to eat. No music at the pools. Seemed very child friendly but was not for us when we wanted to just relax with a drink in the pool. Will not return.

Very clean. Very friendly staff. Close to beach. Always has staff encourage to get involved in activities...Beach volleyball...exercise by the ocean. If you don't like all the hubbub you can go to the adult pool that has a bar. Very quiet. Nice pool area. Buffet is not air conditioned. Restaurant's you need to make reservations. Miramama was the best...lasagne was delicious. Our group 4 adults are food snobs so we weren't over the moon with the food. Food by the busy pool not the adult pool.

good price, but rude front desk personnel,

Most of the staff are pleasant, and helpful. The front desk personnel are mostly rude. We constantly had key cards that stopped working, our room flooded, and had trouble getting our wet clothes washed. The food is mostly bad. Stick with the Mexican food and fruit. U can only make restaurant reservations for two nights, with a five night stay. The beach and pool areas are nice. The bar tenders and other staff are always nice. The difficulties with the front desk, and the quality of food, will probably keep me from staying here again.

Expected more from this hotel based on review and description but was disappointed upon arrival and first impressions. If you want to live on the beach then this is a place for you because that is beautiful, other than that the pool is small, no swim up bar, very uncomfortable beds, and food that will upset your stomach. I wouldn't stay here again.
