I work in Barcelona and am lucky to be able to choose hotels in the area around where my office is. I have a couple of favourites but both were full and so I tried the El Avenida Palace as the reviews seemed quite good. It was fine but a little tired and in need of renovation. Great location but there are many, many choices in Exiample and for the same money, a lot are better. The staff are all cool though and it's not their fault that the hotel needs some investment.

Lovely hotel of a past era with a few mod cons. Helpful Reception staff. Great location for Plaça de Catalunya and Las Ramblas. Good choice of restaurants and high end shops nearby. Roof top pool which we didn’t use but clearly a hit with some little kids.
