    About this property

Converted Pole Barn Near Beach Becomes Luxury Destination

Luxurious amenities combine with beach casual to make our Nid d'Amour (Love Nest) distinctive. In it's prior life a 'pole barn', this property has now been converted into seventeen hundred square feet of self-contained privacy a short walk to the beach access, where the Mouth of the Elwha River and Strait of Juan de Fuca converge, with acres of sandy beach to romp on. When you arrive at your destination the refreshing sea air tells you immediately that this is a very special home-away-from-home and the evergreens whisper their welcome. While oriented to the woods (and fenced) for maximum privacy, guests are lulled to sleep by the sound of the surf. We are located less than 1/4 mile from the mouth of the Elwha River and access to Freshwater Bay. We have guests who "bird" at the mouth of the river. We have hosted guests interested in the Elwha Dam Removal Project, including the film crew who documented the hisstory of the river in a documentary called "The Breach". Snuggle by the fireplace before slipping into the silky comfort of the European linens on your Cal-King canopied bed. Even rainy days are fun when you can listen to the rain falling on your tin roof. Enjoy cooking in a well-equipped kitchen (I don't like to cook on vacation but guests who enjoy cooking have said we have the best equipped kitchen of any vacation rental they have stayed in) or savor the unique flavors of the Pacific Northwest at one of the many excellent restaurants in town. (We are eight miles west of downtown Port Angeles, the park entrance for Hurricane Ridge or Victoria ferries). Take a dip in your double fenced private hot tub, count all the stars you can't see living in town and revel in the smell of the sea. We frequently get guests who tell us 'last night was the best I've slept in ages'. While often used by lovers who want to get away from it all, (and frequent honeymooners), the house has been enthusiastically received by families wanting a unique location to use as their home base while they explore the wonders of the Olympic Peninsula or day-trip to Victoria, British Columbia. Originally with only a master bedroom with large Cal-King bed, we have added a second bedroom with a plush Eastern King bed, both covered with imported Italian linens. Also on display, our dad's piano from when he ran away from home to become 'a serious jazz musician,' before he grew up, married our mom and became Washington's best known jazz educator, Dr. Ralph Mutchler. We are currently collecting photos from the various jazz clinics and stage band festivals dad and Olympic College hosted, to post above the piano--our very first guest actually said, 'No way-I knew Ralph!' If you can provide one of the missing stage band tapes, stay one night free! In the living room the couch also converts to a 'full' sleeper (two small kids or one teenager) with tempurpedic foam added for comfort. Some guests could care less about TV but we do have a Smart TV (Netflix, Hulu, Showtime) and hundreds of DVDs. We have AT&T streaming and a huge selection of channels. Kid-friendly amenities include board games, glider, a fire pit for weenie and marshmallow roasts (we provide s'more supplies) plus,it's a 5-10 minute walk or drive to the beach and the Elwha Delta. The owners of the Love Nest live next door and are delighted to help their guests plan their excursions, recommend wonderful places to dine or even arrange for a masseuse to attend you after a full day of activities. Great weekend getaway!

We spent our wedding anniversary in Port Angeles this year and had a wonderful trip. The house was actually a highlight of the trip. The beds were comfortable, the house had everything you could possibly need. We really enjoyed the hot tub after a day of hiking, the stars were out and you could hear the ocean. We also appreciated the large towels they provided. I highly recommend staying here!

        Weekend Getaway

We stayed here for the weekend of the Dungeness Crab & Seafood Festival. The friendly owner greeted us at the door and showed us around the great property. Didn’t get to take advantage of the fire pit or the outdoor bbq but did get to use the hot tub in the rain! It was great! The place was very comfortable and we had a relaxing time. It was cool to hear the waves in the distance. Hope to return with our son and dog!

Great launching point into the Olympic National Forest.

Hot tub, jacuzzi, a full kitchen and 2 large beds round out this location. There is a lot of character in this renovated pole barn. Easy access to the strait of Juan de fuca facing beach as well as a great launching point into Port Angeles, the discovery trail, or the Olympic National Forest. We will definitely keep this location bookmarked for a return trip.

          4/5 Good

            Unusual property, pleasant.

Owner was immediately available and helpful. Property seems to need some TLC - fix a few smaller issues (broken but useable bathroom faucet and shower drain cover, leaking roof - minor, and could use a deep cleaning.) We enjoyed our stay, but some may be less satisfied.

            5/5 Excellent

              Fantastical place!

This is a wonderful place to stay. We were there for fall weather, used the hot tub and grill, and generally just loved our stay there. From the moment I saw the high pole-barn (but insulated) ceilings with a wall of books on one side, to the wonderful tour that Allen gave us through the place, I was smitten. It really is larger than life. Lots of rabbit (not bunny) motifs, walls covered in needlepoint and every kind of art, a lace-canopied king bed with a door to the patio/hot tub and a bathroom you can waltz in. Allen and Lyndee's video collection was also stellar. We skipped our usual netflixs favorites to watch some of their DVD's because we knew we'd never see them again!
