Quaint, off the beaten path, rustic.

Posted Mar 26, 2017
Pros: Location, while close to highway & attraction, facility was peaceful & calming.
Cons: Need to finesse the details.
Location: Close to Indiana Dunes, water park and many other attractions.
As we arrived, we questioned the location and facility. Facility is older& shows it's age. Parking lot was a quagmire of potholes. Once inside, the lobby & staff were very pleasant. Easily accommodated accessibility issues. And recommended a local restaurant for dinner. Room & aesthetics were up to date & pleasant. Although we did have problems with the TV remote & a continual drip in the shower. All together a pleasant stay. We will use again when in the area & will recommend to family/friends.

Hotel's value does not match price paid

Posted Mar 18, 2017
Pros: Quite place away from the hustle and bustle of most chain hotels located right off the freeway. You have to drive a bit away from the interstate.
Cons: Furniture and decor must be updated. There is no excuse for keeping rusty fixtures in the bathroom.
Location: I can't really comment on this, but I did not see attractions on my wait in or out of the facility
I found it odd that upon my arrival around 23:00 hrs, Tiffany, a young front desk attendant, was not aware of my reservation and had no visibility in the system to it. She made a great effort to check me in without much delay but she had to phone the hotel owner to make sure she did everything ,right. She was courteous and apologetic. In the morning, I left my room around 08:30 hrs to enjoy the provided breakfast. The first person I met in the hallway leading to my room was the General Manager, Danielle, who proceeded to tell me her frustration with her front desk employee's lack of knowledge on how to do a proper check-in and collect credit information. She was terribly concerned about me checking-out before she could obtain my credit card and reiterated at least three times that she would take the room charge out of her employee's paycheck. Danielle lack professionalism and failed to ask the most simple of questions to her guest: Hello Sir, How was your room? Did you sleep well? Instead, she vented her frustrations at me about the way her employee performed her duties. On my way out, I did provide her with my credit card, but politely also gave her constructive criticism. I told her that perhaps she needs to give more thorough training to her employees and pay more attention to the comfort and experience of her guests at her facility. For this reason, and for the reasons I state above regarding the quality of the facility, I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone.

Get what you pay for

Pros: The quiet woods outside our balcony
Cons: Freshening up the room before we stayed to make sure it's not dusty and everything works. Training staff about professionalism.
Location: We enjoyed hiking the sand dunes.
Staff seemed a bit inconvenienced by us, though they were kind. Our first room was not made-up after the last guest left, so they switched us to a room next door. It didn't feel clean: dusty--like maybe it hadn't been looked at in weeks. One of our lamps didn't work. The beds felt clean. The temperature was comfortable. We enjoyed having a balcony that faced a quiet woods in the back. Breakfast was ok.

Pros: The setting is beautiful. The building has a sense of quality and tradition.
Cons: Elevators, totally out of context for the architecture, might be helpful for some. There is nothing I didn't like about this hotel.
Location: Wonderful place to take walks or bike rides. Short drive to beautiful dunes and beaches on Lake Michigan. National Park property nearby.

Coverup

I'm not sure what they are attempting to hide. The room had an overwhelming perfume like odor that caused both my wife and I to get Ill within less then 10 minutes, buy which time I was back at the front desk. When we asked for a refund, the desk clerk said he was not allowed to refund back to a credit card. I asked him to contact some one who was able to grant a refund. This took about 20 minutes or so. But he was finally able to do it.

Good For the Money

Location: It's great if you are doing something at lake or in Porter/Chesterton. Has a good rib joint about a 2min drive away.
It's an older facility and the room was a bit dark. But, the bathroom was spotless and bright and the staff was nice.
