Penina hotel and golf resort

Pros: Very clean and excellent food
Cons: Can't think of anything
Location: We were there for World Superbike Round at Portamao. Seems lots to do in the town and hotel has golf course and swimming pool, gym and sauna etc
Great hotel and facilities. Food for breakfast is excellent, lots of choices, plus cooked and continental, and lots of fresh fruit. Rooms very comfortable, our was maybe a little cramped, however, we were only there at night. Shower, bath etc excellent and roomy. Husband had just one gripe, charged 12 euro for internet connection. Also we eat out in the evenings, hotel menus seemed excellent and varied, but a bit expensive for us.

Beach it to Far, but the golf Course is the best.

Staff are not very helpful, house keeping not the best. The waiters are very reluctant to try and fix the coffee machines like top up the milk or water, but the coffee is very nice.

A disappointing return to a Hotel I once loved

Pros: The new update but staff attitude let it down and they need training for a 5 star I expect more.
Cons: Staff training and change of their indifference to guests complaints sad to hear so many complaints it used to be a special place.
Location: Liked the Beach shuttle and Restaurent
Started off with lovely she has been undated but has keeper her charm then the problems ......rooms not made up till late afternoon guests complaining as late as 5.00, twice no toilet paper, waiter using fingers to push rather expensive gilato onto scoop and at 5.00 for 2 scoop sizes differed each day. Meal Promotion 30 euro per meal only a deal in 1 restaurent other just took 30 off the bill ( no deal but guaranteed you use their restaurant). Drink poured over me by untrained waiter no apology from manager and charged for the Happy Hour drinks how rude I was soaked. Raw Duck served when sent back came back still raw ( other guest on another table suffered same) insulted to be offered Sir I will not charge you for it ( I wouldn't have paid for it) night ruined I only had a dessert should have been offered something do summing up this was a total disaster due the indifference of staff when complaining. Saw a couple from our Golf Club and they had issues. The buffet should have been refunded it was appalling. I will take this to the Owners of the Hotel.

Pros: Character and retaining personnel gave familiarity to our stay.
Cons: The air con in the rooms is noisy and very basic controls, needs updating. A smell through the vents too. The golf course needs more attention.
Location: It is isolated except for Lagos where there are some restaurants. Alvor in the summer is too busy and unpleasant. Ferragudo is better to visit
We like the hotel and staff, but it needs some upgrading . The golf course now settles for a lower standard than once was the case when the Portugal Open was played there. The restaurants were very good. The rooms a bit Spartan still with poorly functioning (noisy) air con

Peaceful

5th time at Penina. Apart from the check in experience which was eventually sorted by the hotel a very enjoyable stay was had. Waiters/waitresses at breakfast could be more attentive. Could wait 5/10 minutes before being offered tea/coffee. The boys at the beach as always were excellent!

Classic old school hotel

A few teething problems to start with but were quickly sorted. Hotel rooms are small and we would not class them as 5 star but once you forget about this the hotel is fantastic. Grounds are amazing and the pool area is perfect for little ones. Would definitely go back. It is an old school classic hotel and we loved our stay.

Excellent hotel with great facilities

Pros: Good food, good service, good facilities, great location
Cons: Would be even better of Grill and Arlecchino restaurants were open every night
Location: Boat trips from nearby Alvor and Lagos to watch dolphins, go fishing, explore the coastline. Nice beach at Alvor.
Great hotel with excellent facilities -- 3 golf courses, driving range, kids club, fabulous pool and great restaurants. Service has improved greatly over the last year. My family and I have visited the Penina annually for about 20 years and on our most recent trip it was back to its best. The Grill and Arlecchino restaurants were both excellent. The pool was as inviting as ever. It's a great place to relax by the pool with a book, or to play a leisurely round of golf.

Basic hotel

Pros: Outside
Cons: Inside and a bit of entertainment
Location: Out the way nothing to do within walking distance
Not a lot to do at the hotel pool staff were really nice other staff not very helpful

Below 5* Standards, they could improve this if they pay attention to details, expensive restaurants but with less vegetarians option. One this good is my son had a good time at Kangaroo club
