Overall, loved the stay. It is an incredible deal for a downtown, walkable location to everything you want to see in downtown and the Pearl District. Easy access to and from Union Station, Powell's, Voodoo Donuts, Waterfront Park, incredible sushi, brunch, etc. nearby. The pool, sauna, and hot tub were great; morning breakfast omelette was delicious. Gorgeous lobby that felt luxurious every day.
Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful when asked. We had such a great vacation.
The downsides:
- This is likely all Embassy Suites post-COVID, but we did need to ask for anything we needed, even reminding to bring a mug with coffee to the room, or to have towels replaced at the pool.
- The homeless situation in Portland is worse than in Seattle and San Francisco, if not by scale, then lack of clean-up in parks and on sidewalks. I feel like Portland needs to help their downtown businesses corral poor people into more manageable areas so it can be cleaned.
We did not feel unsafe--we were only asked politely for money and not that often--but it isn't the cleanest situation for anyone involved.
