Very nice hotel with great amenities.

We love the Fireside. Clean hotel, great price and a real "Maine" feel. Get a free Whoopie Pie upon check in, can't beat that! Breakfast was great. Would stay here again.

Worth staying here

Posted Aug 17, 2017
Pros: Value for the price
Cons: Bathroom vanities are too low for a person of average height, better for persons of lower stature
Location: We drove to downtown Portland and visited the shops and restaurants also drove to Freeport to visit LL Bean stores and the outlet town
Located on the outskirts of the city close to Route I 95. While the hotel is a little old the room was comfortable and clean. We were greeted with two Whoopi Pies during registration. The staff was friendly. We had dinner at the hotel because they had a lobster special that was out of this world well prized and delicious, not worth leaving the hotel and going downtown to eat. Included was a breakfast buffet. We stayed three nights and would do it again.

Strange!

Posted Aug 17, 2017
Pros: General cleanliness and quiet.
Cons: Complimentary breakfast choices.
Location: This facility is in a rather isolated area, miles from downtown, but convenient to the Interstate. I failed to see much of interest nearby.
The layout of this motel/hotel is odd, to say the least. There is but one elevator - so many rooms seem a mile distant from it. The corridors are long and labyrinthine, leading to long walks to one's room from certain locations. The maid failed to clean the room on one day (we stayed 4) and the breakfasts offered are lamentable, at least for the "complimentary" choices. The breakfast room is small and can get very crowded. One a positive note, the hotel was usually quiet and the bedding was satisfactory, if not extraordinary. There is no way that this hotel is worth the nightly rate - except that everything in Portland is expensive! Note that the location is several miles from downtown, without much nearby except the Interstate highway.

Disappointing

Pros: The restaurant
Cons: Everything
Location: Not there long enough to say.
Hall light did not work, air vent in bathroom filthy, air conditioner loud, lamps very dusty, refrigerator clogged with ice.

OVER priced, needs work, breakfast lacking

Posted Aug 11, 2017
Pros: The front desk staff and the shuttle drivers were nice.
Cons: The decor, the carpet, the breakfast, another elevator. The hotel did reply to a previous review stating they would address. I hope they do!
Location: Within walking distance to popular restaurants such as Ruby Tuesday and Panera. We were only there one night, awaiting a flight home.
The staff was very helpful delivering our baggage while pushing my Mom in a wheelchair. I really appreciated the help when I got off the elevator and had to push her through three very long hallways (the room was on the opposite side of the hotel) where the carpet changed at each hallway and became more stained and stale oder stronger. The pictures taken by the hotel do not represent our room. The stale odor was very prevalent, the wallpaper was turning loose and there had been a leak of some kind and a very sloppy attempt to repair. I do want to give kudos to the cleanliness of our room. The beds were properly made and the bathroom was clean. I would suggest ripping out the carpet in every room and the hallways. The breakfast hostess was very nice and helped get a table that was close to a wheelchair ramp. However, breakfast was VERY disappointing. The "continental" breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs that tasted like powdered eggs. The fruit option was melon that was not very tasty. The juice machine was out of orange juice but they did have a carton of juice. I didn't try any of the other items as they did not look appetizing. The only option for yogurt was fruit flavored (maybe strawberry) that was self serve from a cold pan. It would have been much more appealing to have individual containers with an option of sugar free, greek yogurt. My Mom ordered the "HOT" for $5, the same eggs as on the bar, bacon and toast. $5 for two pieces of bacon, basically.

great staff, outdated place

Posted Aug 8, 2017
Pros: Staff
Cons: update rooms, clean carpets
First and foremost, probably most important, the pictures online are not indicative of the room we got. Pretty outdated and in need of some minor repairs, touch ups. It appeared as if SOME of the rooms might look like that, by certainly not ours. The staff was really nice, friendliness of the guy making sure breakfast was stocked and clean was off the charts. Decent breakfast, step above continental with some scrambled eggs. We were just using it as a home base for visiting family/friends and going to the beach. Would not pay that much again unless home base were much nicer. Couldve stayed at cheaper places and been equally if not more satisfied. It was OK.

Reasonable but not impressive

Posted Aug 3, 2017
Room was initially fine. Did not get attention between our two days stay. We asked for some K-cups for the 2nd day. Front desk staff said that some would be brought to our room--didn't come.

I do apologize. That this may have been overlooked. Our Housekeepers are not allowed to enter rooms with Do Not disturb signs out.

Good location but...

Posted Jul 29, 2017
Good location...pictures on site do not represent the hotel now. We had a general room but there is no fan in the bathroom, also bathroom was small and the door almost hit the toilet. There was no phone cord to use the phone and housekeeping came in and replaced towels but and emptied the trash but did not make the beds or vacuum. I would stay somewhere else if headed to Portland.
