location

Pros: location, furnishings, cleanliness , staff
Cons: nothing
Location: we only stayed one night and explored the local area from the river front to the near by parks and restaurants.
always a pleasure to stay in a Kimpton hotel - great locations, trendy , clean and unique furnishings make the experience truly worth the money. The staff is always friendly with helpful tips from local restaurants , and things to do in the area.

Nice hotel marred by roaming and sleeping homeless

Room was clean, and tastefully decorated, but it was very small for the over $400 price.

Heart of the city

Perfectly located, easy walking distance to everything. The Monaco is eclectic, friendly, comfy and spotlessly clean. Great, positive staff (we interacted with parking attendants, front desk personnel and housekeeping -- all first class).

Saved by the staff at the Kimpton Monaco Portland!

Posted May 17, 2017
Pros: Everything! Thank you so much Joanna, Steven, Rebecca & the rest of the staff!
Cons: Nothing! Rebecca, Joanna, Steven & the rest of the staff went way above & beyond in helping me recover from a traumatic night.
Location: I'll explore next trip - this time I just relaxed at the Kimpton visiting with my niece.
I will only stay at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco in Portland on my Portland visits. I live in Seattle & was going to Portland to visit my niece that I hadn't seen in over 2 years. While trying to leave Seattle, my car was hit by an uninsured motorist (major damage) so after the police report, getting a repair shop appt. & a rental car, I set out for Portland. By the time I got on the freeway I was 3 hours late, in heavy evening traffic & a raging storm. After hours driving an unfamiliar car in blinding rain & darkness, just as I was just getting into Portland my phone died (the USB in the rental didn't work) so I immediately got lost. Still in pouring rain & pitch dark, I stopped at 3 places to try charging my phone, getting various directions by people trying to be helpful. I was lost for over 2 hours before I got enough bars to call the hotel. The Kimpton receptionist talked me through turn by turn until I reached the hotel where the bellman Steven was outside waiting for me. I arrived wet, tired & sobbing after an off the charts bad day. There was a box of tissues waiting & a warm, comforting reception. While hearing about all the mayhem of the day, they upgraded my room - completely surprising me. My niece came & spent the night. Even though the dinner menu had closed 30 min. earlier, they still let us order from the dinner. We had a fantastic meal & a much needed bottle of wine in our beautiful room. I'll never forget the kindness & support from the staff.

Hello Liz, thanks very much for staying with us we really appreciate it. Apologies for missing the mark on housekeeping; we'll share it with our team so we stay on top of it. Regarding our design; it was accomplished by Paletteur, based out of San Francisco.

Pros: hour of music and refreshments in the lobby
Cons: Room rates
Location: Within walking distance to shopping and resturants
Best thing about this hotel was the hour of music and refreshments in the lobby in the evening.

Apologies for letting you down, we work very hard to make sure that the rates we charge convey value to all of our guests. In fact, our nightly Social Hour complete with live music, craft cocktails, locals beers and Oregon wines all come complimentary with your room rate. That's on top of the complimentary AM coffees and teas, PressReader digital newspapers and Public bikes. We hope you give us another change to deliver an amazing stay.

Great hotel - especially for dogs & dog owners

Posted May 3, 2017
Great hotel. Check in was a little later than expected since the room wasn't clean but hotel held our bags and suggested good restaurants nearby. This hotel is very friendly towards dogs. They have a dog welcome package (small dog bed, treats, bags, and toy). Dogs are also allowed into the 5-6pm happy hour. Dog friendly rooms are on floor 2-4. The room (3rd floor) was very quiet and we couldn't hear the noise outside or any foot traffic outside the room. The hotel goes above and beyond with extra amenities for its customers - i.e: bike rentals, happy hour, coffee/ tea in the morning, etc.. Lots of good restaurants and shopping nearby. This hotel is conveniently located in downtown and most everything is walking distance. We did use hotel parking and it was also nice that the car was just downstairs in the garage vs. having to call and taking 30 mins to arrive (as in other hotels, including other kimptons, where the car is parked off lot). Great hotel.. Highly recommend!

Good hotel in a horrible neighborhood

Posted May 2, 2017
Pros: the room was clean and quiet
Cons: free breakfast for heaven's sake
Location: Please do something about the horrible smell of urine on sidewalks in that neighborhood. It's borderline unbearable.
As soon as you walk out of the hotel you have to smell urine for at least 5 blocks. Homeless people constantly approach you for money.

Thanks so much for the feedback, while we're happy that you found our property clean and quiet we did want to apologize for any impact by the city. We certainly stay on top of everything under our control. Regarding complimentary breakfast, we do have several promotions that offer just that, please check out our special offers and hope you can make it back again.

Quirky Hotel Puts A Bird On It!

Posted Apr 19, 2017
Pros: Great location, quirky decor, free drinks & entertainment at happy hour, down feather bedding, free bike rentals, very quiet and pet friendly
Cons: Hotel parking was priced at $42/a day. Excessive! We found cheaper parking across from Ground Kontrol Arcade off of 5th Ave. A 5 minute walk away!
Location: Go to Voodoo Doughnut & Powell's books. Get tea at the Lan Su Gardens, walk the Esplanade & visit the Portland Art Museum. Pingball at Ground Kontrol!
We're from NYC and wanted the Portland experience for our vacation with a few roadtrips for some quality hiking. Kimpton is centrally located and had a quirky look. Our hotel room had wallpaper of ducks flying around the room. Even our lamp had duck feet. There are so many other decorating features that are too numerous to list here but our favorite part of the room was the funky zebra and cheetah robes provided. We enjoyed our first night's happy hour with a giant chess board on the floor. Some nights there was live music and a very engaging tarot reader. Early in the morning, coffee, tea and a newspaper would be provided. Many people brought dogs to the hotel but you'd never know it throughout the night. It was really quiet. They even had a welcome poster and treats for the dogs staying at the hotel. My husband enjoyed the complimentary bike he used along the waterfront and I liked the close proximity to the famous VooDoo Doughnuts, Powell Bookstore, The Original Diner, and the RedStar Restaurant. We were a 45 minute drive away from the Multnohmah Falls and a 1.5 hr. drive way from Silver Falls State Park. Great Hiking! Ten minute walking distance to the Lan Su Chinese Garden where there's a lovely tea ceremony. We also checked out the Portland Art Museum and the Esplanade. I wish we got around to seeing the Saturday outdoor markets (we took a 3 hour road trip to Cape Perpetua instead) and would love to check out a Ted Talks or a Jazz concert at STARS next time. Loved it!

Thank you Mary, we do our best to represent Portlandia! Looks like you had an amazing stay; you did more than some folks who live here! I hope you can make it back for the summer, it's a whole different world once the sun is shining and the festivals, concerts and events return. Hope to see you! Robert General Manager
