Stuck in a back room over the kitchen, large painted out windows. Had dinner in the hotel dining room on arrival night, Monday, busy bar & restaurant, got entree after requesting all to come out together as my wife was having a main and we were tired, her main arrived 1hr 15 min later and was wrong main, replacement arrived 15 minutes later and was not cooked and had no sauce. Avoid at all costs, the table of four beside us ordered before us and hadn't had their meals delivered when we left. Obviously the Chef has Monday off no idea.

Excellent location - nice refurbishment.

This hotel was tastefully refurbished. The interior was really nice. Great location in Portland, with a decent view. Staff were happy to help. Would happily stay here again.

Historical charm

Posted Feb 21, 2017 on Wotif
A friend and I stayed for a night last weekend and were really happy with our experience! We checked-in near 10pm and the receptionist was a pleasure to deal with! Upon entering our room it had all of the period charm we were hoping for with the modern conveniences like airconditioning/heating and flatscreen tv. The ensuite was nicely renovated and the shower pressure was amazing for such an old building! The room was exactly what we wanted overall and we only wish we could have extended our stay! Highly recommend this hotel!

Clean & comfortable Hotel

Posted Jan 17, 2017 on Wotif
Pros: Well furnished, very clean & comfortable, close to all facilities.
Cons: Signage, we weren't sure we were in the right place, as the entrance is around the corner to the address.
Location: Well positioned with views over the Portland harbour (Our corner room). Walking distance to Cafes, restaurants and supermarket, shops & Marine Museum.
We stayed 2 nights in the Harbour View Suite - 3rd Floor. We were unaware that it was a Pub/Hotel and were initially concerned about noise as we stayed Thursday & Friday nights. No need to worry noise wasn't a problem. The room was generous in size with great views and opening windows, we watched the moon rise over the harbour. There was plenty of hot water for the bath/spa to relax in after our wanderings around town, beaches, light houses, gannet colony ect. Plenty to see and do. Close to good Cafes and restaurants too. It may prove a problem for some, but If you don't mind stairs then you'll be happy with the room.

Overnight stay

Posted Jan 14, 2017 on Wotif
Pros: Pleasant staff, ambience, history of the hotel, cleanliness, comfortable, breakfast and free wifi.
Cons: The shower could do with sealing of the door, so that the water doesn't leak onto the floor.
I picked the hotel as it has breakfast included in the price which is what we wanted. Found the room very nice and clean. The bed is quite comfortable, my partner found it to be a tad uncomfortable, otherwise a good nights sleep we had. The breakfast has everything of what we wanted to have. Overall, a pleasant overnight stay in Portland.

Thank you for your review. I have had our handyman look at the shower doors but with such an old building, we were built in 1855, slight movement is a constant that we endeavour to keep track of.

Located by the sea and the town centre is within walking distance. Hotel staff were very pleasant and courteous during our stay. We loved the fact of that the hotel kept its authenticity which connected us with the history of Portland. Overall we are satisfied with the hotel and its staff.

A nice hotel

Posted Dec 25, 2016
We had a nice and comfortable stay. Our room was large with a good size bathroom. Pros: good location, good room size, clean Cons: there was a party downstairs with loud music. While our room was at the opposite side and the nouse wasnt too bad our friends' room was louder. Luckily the party finished around 1am.

Unique country experience - love it

Posted Dec 19, 2016
We stayed one night and had a fabulous time. Enjoyed drinks at the bar, dinner in the bistro which was excellent and after a lovely walk returned to hear the cover band that played until late. All staff were lovely and the room was fantastic and big. Comfy bed and clean and tidy. Would definitely return. Bathroom window needs a blind as the morning light shines in. Other than that we loved the place.
