Caution: Doesn't feel safe for many reasons. News

Pros: The view of the River from the bar. The nautical theme in the bar/dining areas. Attentive service. Excellent spinach salad. The food is their saving g
Cons: Invest in the property, it is sorely needed. ANYTHING would be an improvement. Replace broken and non-functioning outer doors and Increase the lightin
Location: Farmer's Market on Sunday morning in the downtown Vancouver, small but charming.
Typically I go here for cheap, decent lodging on the edge of the state line but after this visit I will not likely come here again as there are much nicer, budget-friendly accommodations nearby. This place is way overdue for some basic maintenance and really should just be demolished. Some exit/entry doors were broken and patched together at the seems, literally! One door's magnetic closure did not hold the door closed after hours as it should. The parking lot is VERY dark and there is a history of car burglaries. I stepped in a pot hole and twisted my foot because it was so dark. My hotel room door would remain open if I didn't pull it closed behind me and make sure to force it to latch. After-hours Restaurant/ Bar is NASTY, like an old dive bar that has seen one too many stumbling, bumbling drunkards with badly stained seats and grimy walls, floors, etc., made me avoid touching anything as best I could. It was obvious that bar patrons had been served in excess. A small group was very loudly slurring through their fun in the corner and I observed a stranger who was clearly drunk when I arrived was served an additional 3 beers and 4 shots of liquor in just over 1 hour while I was there. The sweet bartender didn't seem to feel comfortable with her duty to draw a boundary and not continue to over-serve him. Hard water scum on the shower head was gross...assuming it was mineral scum but appeared not to have been cleaned in a long while. Toiletries were nice products and out o

Great location but the hotel is run down

Pros: proximity to the Portland Expo, downtown Portland and downtown Vancouver
Cons: Service and staff training
The Red Lion at the quay is a study in contradictions. The view across the river is outstanding, and some of the public areas are reminders of a time when Red Lions were well maintained beautiful properties. however, the front desk was understaffed, there was no bell service, and the guest parking was across the street. The staff seemed poorly trained and unenthusiastic. The location is close to I205 and I84 making it easy to get to a lot of places. We overheard the property is being forced to close for urban renovation along the river front. Most of the employees acted as though they didn't really want to be working there.

Avoid if doing business on internet

Pros: The view and location. There's a fabulous bicycle / walking path along the river here.
Cons: New wifi modems and extender if necessary. This hotel was not that busy while I there. Signal was inherently weak and often broke hourly.
Location: The location was excellent because of the nearby bicycle /walking path along the river. Old town Vancouver is walking distance.
If you're on business, avoid this place like the plague. Made the mistake of booking a 4 night stay while doing business. The room was nice - view of the river was very cool. Problems were: found hair in the bath tub, coffee maker was not clean (there was still coffee residue inside the pot), drinks at the bar were very diluted, hallways and carpet extremely worn, front desk refused complimentary water after the first day, and most importantly - the internet was absolutely atrocious. When I tried to address the issue, there was only one representative, Karma, who expressed concern and actually initiated resolution. All others, including the manager, told me to bring my computer to the desk (different wifi range entirely) so they could log on. Seriously? Karma appeared on my third day of stay. For the most part my time was spent calling an unresponsive front desk, and trying to find restaurants or coffee shops to secure a decent internet signal. Long story short: whatever savings I received in the booking became irrelevant. Ultimately staff nor outside source technicians could resolve internet connections. Basically, who's ever running the show there doesn't want to invest in new wifi extender nor modem to please customers.

On the water!

Pros: Beds comfy, nice surroundings, 10 min drive over the bridge to Portland.
Cons: Hotel / decor outdated. No housekeeping any where in sight.
Location: Historical fort across the freeway, 10 min drive to Portland, nearby restaurants.
Lobby area very clean updated. Dining area (breakfast) very dark, cold, old looking; outdated. Some doors had holes as though some one punched it. Floors uneven, elevators were loud needs to looked at. Our room did not have an alarm clock which we assumed but then located it under the bed the following day. We NEVER NEVER NEVER saw housekeeping any where in the hotel BUT there was a towel storage container in our hallway but no housekeeper. Breakfast was good for being free just not enough fruit. Beautiful view of Oregon / Washington bridge, and river. I only recommend because of cost and free breakfast. Great surrounding area. We walked down the path and over the freeway to the historic fort.

Conveniently located and reasonable rates

Pros: Location and reasonable rates.
Cons: A/C unit in the room was very loud and should be fixed.
Location: Convenient location - 10 min drive to downtown Portland.
A/C in the room was very loud, and woke me up at night a couple of times. Eventually had to turn it off to get some sleep. Other than this issue, the room was fine for the rate.

Pros: Location.
Cons: Sadly the Hotel is being torn down and the area redeveloped. Hopefully the Hotel will be rebuilt
Location: Easy access to Portland, Oregon, also close enough to Mt. Rainier and Mt. Hood and Pacific Coast beaches.
We enjoyed watching traffic on the I-5 bridge over Columbia River to Portland Oregon. Hotel was on Columbia River so we had a good view of both, also easy access to Portland..

Pros: The location - convenient and beautiful. The staff was friendly and professional.
Location: Fort Vancouver is maybe a mile away. Historical and a good easy walk
This is an older hotel. It's seen better days, but it is still really nice and we had a great stay. The price is lower due to the fact that they're closing at the end of October. So take advantage! It's ON the Columbia River on the Vancouver side - so convenient to downtown Vancouver and I-5 to Portland. Views are gorgeous. Big deck to relax on. All staff we met were friendly and professional. On entering, the room smelled musty. The front desk offered to give us another room or have housekeeping come by with Febreeze. We chose febreeze and it solved the problem. Then we noticed that the toilet was running. Made another call, 5 minutes later, a simple fix and done. Clean room. Everything in working order. Lovely towels and bedding. Oh, and breakfast was cooked to order - we had a homemade biscuit, bacon strips, hash browns and two eggs with coffee. way better than the usual breakfast buffet. The only change I'd make is the closing date. I wish they'd stay open so I could return!
