All was great, lovely welcome when checking in. 1 mix up with a girl who wouldn’t let us get breakfast at 7.45 when we had arranged with the lady the day before as we were going on a trip. But lovely stay.

The place is not close to the main areas, but it’s not bad with an Uber ride. There is no sign, but easily recognized due to it’s red brick exterior. Staff were AMAZING and helpful and the area out back was nice to sit in with a glass of local wine. The basic room is VERY small with no chairs. The bathroom is beautiful, but the shower is not functional due to its small size. You literally can’t wash yourself without opening the glass door. I understand that we paid for a basic room, but with the price, I would have expected something bigger. There is also no coffee pot or water in the room. The room has a small fridge that has water and a few drinks for 2 euros each. Overall, it’s a beautiful property and the staff are an asset.

Lovely place to stay and a great location in Porto. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. We only had one minor issue with our A/C unit but it was quickly dealt with by the front desk staff. Would highly recommend.

This property didn’t disappoint. Staff were so friendly and helpful in recommending places to eat. Room was quite basic but functional and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was fantastic. Freshly baked rolls and croissants and freshly squeezed orange juice. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were always available to help in any way they could. The property is excellently located. Lots of steps in the property with no lift option so wouldn’t be good for less mobile travellers. A welcome drink of locally produced port was a nice touch too. I would definitely recommend this guest house for anybody visiting Porto. We loved our stay there.

Porto City Break
Excellent location in the centre of the old district. Very good breakfast. Room was clean and as is typical of houses in the area has steep stairs to all rooms so if an issue it’s best to request a lower room but not a problem for us. Highly recommended.

I just wanted to say thank you for a wonderful stay at the Cale Guest House, from the very beginning to the end of our stay could not have been better. Vania and Diogo were the most pleasant people to have greeted us, set up a first class breakfast with a high quality fresh squeezed OJ, mini egg tarts famous in Portugal, among other things, along with a comfortable bed with room cleaning every day. I must say that my planning with two other cities involved in our trip I was most concerned about this stay, without hesitation I would highly recommend this place as a wonderful place to call home. If you can walk the hills of Porto you don't have to worry about a few stairs to work off the extensive restaurants selection in the neighborhood Cheers from Dan and Colleen, Langley, BC. Canada

Mixed feelings…
The front desk clerks were absolutely wonderful in giving assistance with directions, things to see, and a taxi when I needed it. The rooms are a little daunting to get up to (after walking Porto all day) when you are on the 3rd and 4th floors. Breakfast was terrific! The service was excellent and they even have a little to offer for spirits. The only upset I have is that I picked my tablet and all of my chargers inside the hood of my pack. I was getting ready for the Camino and wanted them secure in case the weather changed. Needless to say I left it in the room. I called twice and was told they were no where to be found. I wouldn’t leave a bad review for such service if I didn’t know they were either taken or mistakenly tossed out. I’ve never gotten a call back about it. It’s been 3 days. The cleaning ladies also moved my pack at one point and broke one of the clasps without saying a word. Beware the cleaning people and what you leave while out and about!

Place is amazing with great breakfast options. The only drawback is the stairs that you have to take to get to your room. Staff and coordination was really good.

Simple, low key, in prime location.
Excellent location, helpful staff, simple relaxed vibe (they give you keys to the front door). You need to be OK going up and down stairs. Recommended as long as you aren't hung up on getting frills and fuss.

Great short stay
We stayed two nights and Luisa checked us in, very promptly. She even carried our suitcases to our room, which was nice as we arrived tired from our trip. The view down the street toward the river was super and our room, #5, seemed much larger than normal. We’d stay again next time in Porto!

Great Host and excellent location
I travelled with my son to watch the Champions League final and wanted somewhere central. Cale Guest House is a great location and just a short walk to the metro and excellent restaurants/bars down by the river. Nice and spacious rooms. Pedro is an attentive host and nothing was too much trouble. A decent continental breakfast was just the thing needed to start our day.

Cale Guest House was the perfect location and place to stay for my mid-Portugal stay in Porto. Apart from the room being a little bit of a climb up the stairs (made for a great workout), the room and breakfast was great! Very safe and great location for wandering the city. Alice at the reception was kind and spent many afternoons chatting with me as I took a break from exploring. Not only did we connect, Alice shared some great insights of Porto history and the country as a whole, and even taught me how to properly pronounce Ferreira. :) The breakfast was filling and full of a variety of food that left me full enough to wander for hours before getting peckish. I would definitely return to stay again.

We stayed over the New Year (2019/2020) for 5 nights and struggle to find any fault in this guest house. Above all, the service provided by the three working in the reception area stands out at the very highest levels. From the moment we arrived, they were friendly, helpful and no request was too much effort. They made suggestions on places to visit, eat, drink and when bookings were needed, they would make all the necessary arrangements. As an example, nn New Years Day, they phoned around until they found a place for us to hire bikes. Every place recommended was great. And always welcoming everytime we got back to the guest house. A hot drink and a piece of cake or fruit was available. A truly relaxing experience. The location is perfeect for access to the river and main sites in the centre of Porto and less than 10 mins walk to the main train station. We would definitely return

Air conditioning / heat was not consistent and there are no blankets (just sheets). I had to wear 3 layers and ended up using a pillow and my pea coat as "blankets". We did not receive the room we booked, either. The room was spacious and did have a very nice view of the city. Breakfast is included and was nice. Service was excellent.

This was a great place in a great location! Good view and really nice staff! The breakfast is a good cold breakfast but the same every day. The room we stayed in with city view was large and beautiful and affordable. The only thing is that the place could use a few small things like new towels (not dirty just quite old), the shower fixture was a bit broken. These things are made up for with the hardworking kind staff.
