Hotel Imperiale deserve a 4 star not 5Posted Aug 15, 2015
I am a Hotel owner and i have been in business succesfully 30 years, kindly take my comments as a suggestion, a positive critic in order to improve drastically your service. Hotel is ok very clean but very old, furniture and decor obsolete, historical building but really need a refurbishment. Reception and front desk very disorganized, almost rube, I reach the hotel at 2.15 pm (check in time is 2pm) I had to wait almost 2 and half hours in order to get my room .... unacceptable -450eur a night i expect professionals attending me. Only one person was checking in customers, I believe Mr Luca and seemed it was his first day at work...unbelievable... Staff uniforms all different, really confusing... All customers that arrived with me were furious, no room ready, maybe management should hire more people in order to clean rooms on time. Pool and Garden are gorgeous and pool staff very professional and quick, bravi. Amazing view, from my balcony, breakfast good selection and good service. Till renovation i will not go back at the imperiale to expensive for what it is, big lack of service, specially Front Desk-Reception. Regards Mr Filiberto Magnati

Grand 5 star hotel with spectacular hilltop viewPosted Jul 16, 2015
Pros: Fantastic location, priceless views, good buffet breakfast, great service from hotel staff (particularly front desk and servers at restaurant)
Cons: Strength of air conditioning. Minibar system. They tried to charge us for chocolate bars that we did not eat.
Location: Santa Margherita is a decent sized town with lots of good dining options. Portofino is a short ferry ride away and Cinque Terre is 1hr away by train.
The hotel is set on top of a hill with a spectacular view of Santa Margherita harbor. It feels like a throwback to the opulent grand hotels of a different era. Staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were furnished with beautiful wood pieces. Breakfast on the patio in the mornings with a view of the harbor is a must. Shower pressure was great. Air con was a little weak (but we were there during a heatwave) My wife and I were there for our 10 year anniversary and we loved our stay there. The swimming pool is down a long flight of steps carved into the mountain. You reach the pool and immediately below they have set up a sundeck area on the rocks with a ladder into the ocean. It is THE prime spot to be in Santa Margherita. You have a great view of the bay and can dip into the Med to cool off when you get too hot.

Ok StayPosted Jul 15, 2015
Nice hotel but not 5 star - 130 steps to reach the pool. Very poor wifi and none by the pool at the bar or in the gym, gym is very old with 3 pieces of equipment, very small bathroom and expensive room service. Have stayed in real 5 star hotels where you don't have to ask for anything and have amazing facilities, there isn't even coffee facilities in the room. Wouldn't go back for the price tag, friendly staff though.

Weekend of events with Dolce GabbanaPosted Jul 14, 2015
Pros: Great views and the staff are wonderful.
Cons: WiFi and plug sockets please.
Location: Portofino is just along the road and the whole area is beautiful. Nice little town, and friendly people. Go to Les True Folie in the town.
Hotel is great but really should have a better wifi system (I eventually had to tether to my wife's iPhone) and some plug sockets in the rooms (we had to unplug lights to recharge phones). I do know it is Italy, but we are now in the Royal in Sanremo and they seem to manage well enough.

Beautiful SettingPosted Jul 12, 2015
We had a very pleasent five night stay at the hotel. It's best features are it's beautiful setting, fantastic sun deck down by the waters edge and the staff in the restaurant and down by the water who are friendly and attentive. Aspects the hotel could do better at in my view are:- more welcoming reception staff and a quick tour of the hotel when you arrive to show you the facilities (as there is no hotel manual in your room) and the beds could be a bit more comfortable (as they kept me awake a bit at night) The food in the restaurant is fantastic and service is excellent. Overall would recommend this hotel.
