Rio Bravo Ranch - 01) La Centinela

You're headed to Big Bend! Imagine sipping your favorite beverage as you gaze through an open arch of the 1,000 sq. ft. porch of your vacation home, La Centinela, to see a spectacular rainbow sunset reflecting on the Rio Grande River. Located on a private ranch along FM 170/The River Road just 7 miles SE of Presidio, Texas and a few miles more to the entrance of Big Bend Ranch State Park, this custom adobe exudes Big Bend Luxury: a well-equipped kitchen, pillowtop king mattresses, organic linens, spa products & yes, A/C!

Thoughtful touches abound at La Centinela, right down to the name of the home. La Centinela is named after the Mexican Mountain just opposite of Rio Bravo Ranch. The architecturally-designed adobe is perched high above FM 170 (widely considered the most scenic road in the Lone Star State). Panoramic views only available to our guests include views of the Alamito Creek / Rio Grande Confluence, as well as Sierra Rica, one of the tallest mountains in the region, the Cerros Las Cuchillas Mountains on the Mexican side of the Rio Grande and the rocky flank of the La Centinela Mountain (and namesake). Earth Space of Santa Fe, New Mexico, custom-built the adobe and used authentic adobe brick construction for the 2-bedroom 2-bathroom masterpiece, including 2 kiva fireplaces and a 1,000+ sq. ft. back porch complete with 6 giant open arches. Guests gravitate to the porch morning, noon and night for coffee sipping, sight seeing, photography, star gazing and the like. Curl up with a good book or a loved one to reconnect with your thoughts, your friends and with nature. Every window at La Centinela boasts a view, and the porch arches are no exception! The windows aren't the only features that are intentional. The entire space has been carefully thought out for your stay, whether it's the open-concept furniture arrangement in the living room, carefully curated mirrors and art, certain style and comfort elements or even hand-chosen books and keepsakes that tell the story of the land and house you have chosen to visit.

Amazing stay in Big Bend!
Such a lovely house with thoughtful hosts who anticipated every need! No way to describe the views, sunrises and sunsets from the patio. Loved sitting around the fire pit in the evening and visiting with friends. Great location with access to surrounding towns and the parks.

Incredible views, incredible everything!
We stayed at Rio Bravo Ranch for my best friend’s bachelorette trip. What a truly amazing place! The views took our breath away the entire stay. We watched the sunrise every morning and sat out under the stars every night. Also, the beds were so comfortable. Communication with Lauren the host was fantastic. I can’t wait to come back! Thank you for sharing this home. One of the coolest places I’ve ever stayed!

Great stay
The house was awesome…well furnished, clean, quiet and comfortable. Lauren was really responsive and great to deal with…easiest VRBO rental we’ve done. The house is in a great location for Big Bend State Park visits. A bit of a drive to Big Bend National Park, but the route along the river to get to Terlingua is a must do. Highly recommend!

Big Bend with Friends
We booked Rio Bravo to bring our friends that have never experienced far west Texas before. The scenery in this remote location is breathtaking from sunrise to sunset to stargazing at night it was everything we hoped for. The adobe house set in the desert landscape is beautiful upon first glimpse as you navigate up the private caliche drive off River Road slightly up hill and finally making a hard left turn to approach the front door. There is a courtyard entry through iron gates to the front door. Love the Saltillo tiled floors leading to the wonderful living room/dining area/kitchen to the left of the house. The windows capture the most beautiful scenery throughout the house. The enormous covered patio with arched openings is accessed through the French doors in the dining area. You will find the large fire pit just beyond the patio where we were drawn to each evening. The two bedrooms are really one large master suite, fully appointed with adjoining master bath and one very small guest bedroom. The second bathroom also has the stacked washer/dryer in there making it feel more like a utility room. Since we were hosting, we gave the master suite to our friends. Just noting this because there is a big difference in comfort and experience in the sleeping arrangements if you are staying here as two couples. The kitchen is large and very well stocked with all you need for your stay. Communication was excellent throughout and overall, we had an unforgettable stay!
