Pros: Roof top terrace with pool and Jacuzzi
Cons: Stop people reserving sun beds for most of the day. Longer time in the private spa area
Location: Monaco, Villefranche, Promenade des Anglais
We stayed at the Splendid Hotel and spa for a week 31st July to 6th August. First impressions of the hotel are fantastic. We arrived straight from the airport and checked in. We had paid extra to upgrade from Harmony room to Deluxe room and were put in room 612, which had a lovely king size bed, great big bathroom, and a big terrace which to sit outside at night. The staff were all fantastic, shunning my poor French for English instead and couldn't have been more helpful. My constant requests for teabags always being honoured (We love our tea!). The hotel is ideally placed for gentle strolls to the beach, or in the other direction, the train station, if you want to venture to Monaco, or the slightly more forgiving beach of Villefrance. Everything is within walking distance from the hotel (We used Uber, to taxi around, since i'm disabled and can't walk far). There are plenty of bars and restaurants in close proximity to the hotel, so you aren't short of local places to eat and drink. The selling point of the hotel for us, was the roof top terrace, complete with pool and Jacuzzi. All in all this hotel is fantastic, and we would go back again in a heartbeat

A Splendid time in Nice

Posted Aug 20, 2017
Pros: Location, facilities, rooftop pool and terraces, staff, tea/coffee in room and nice bathroom (so often the loo is separate in French hotels).
Cons: Couldn't get the TV to work properly and would prefer a proper shower over the bath rather than the hand-held one
Location: 10 mins from beach/airport bus, 15 mins from station, Musee Massena and shops/cafes nearby, easy access to Old Town and many other museums
Booked this hotel for its location (great for buses to/from airport, easy walk to beach, station and some museums) and rooftop pool and terraces, and was very happy with the choice. With one exception all the staff on reception were lovely (especially Rebecca) and the bar staff were also friendly and efficient. The Harmony room was fine and had a lovely view over the Boulevard Victor Hugo - a balcony would have been better but was out a lot and the price of an upgrade was largely spent in the pricey but fantastic bar, with its lovely views of Nice by night and where there was a great evening of jazz music one night. Didn't try the breakfast or use the restaurant but the sharing platter in the bar is excellent value. The pool is smaller than it looks on the website and the sunbeds are a bit cramped but did manage to use both so not complaining. The old town is a bit of a walk but easy by tram, and there are also lots of local bars and restaurants too. All in all a great base for exploring the Cote d'Azur, and I would definitely use the hotel again (and try the spa) if returning to Nice. Be warned, however, that to use the French Riviera pass in Antibes you have to go to the tourist office there first to get a paper ticket, as their museums don't yet have the right technology to read the plastic card!

A lovely hotel with easy walks to sea and rail

Posted Aug 20, 2017
Pros: Position comfort quiet clean
Cons: The rooftop pool and space is very limited and we were unable to get a sunbed on any day even though we were only trying to an hour each evening
Location: Near beach and train station. Easy walk to anywhere in Nice really. We bought a weeks rail pass which was great value, beats the queues each day.
We had an older room at the back of the hotel which was very French. It had everything we needed but I believe the are updated rooms which we didn't see. It s a perfect base for our daily trips to the rail station to go somewhere different each day. The beds were extremely comfortable and the room was made up very ell each day and kept very clean.

It was a great hotel, great location, staff and amazing food in the restaurant! My only complaint was being put into a very noisy & basic room on our first night, our flight was delayed by 3.5 hours and we arrived at 1.30am. Our room was right outside a generator and the air conditioning was also noisy. We were thankfully moved to a lot nicer room, but I don't understand why hotels do this, especially when you're there only a few days.

Brilliant location

Posted Aug 13, 2017
Very close to beach. Promenade and train station. Easy to get about and lots to see and do. Hotel was lovely and staff helpful although I did ask previously for an early check in (as we had travelled all night) which couldn't be accommodated which left us exhausted!! However over all it was a great hotel. Expensive but loverly. Breakfast 19 euros!! Lots to choose from though. Swimming pool was nice but difficult to access as it was always busy and lots of sunbeds seemed to be taken no matter what time you went! Restaurant very expensive. Greater choice and price in NICE itself.

4 nights in Nice

Posted Aug 6, 2017
We had a nice stay exploring Nice, but hotel was not like it's pictures all over the websites, we were surprised. Our room was on 3rd floor it was old outdated and smelled, actually the whole hotel has a smell about it, not that pleasant. It was loud, there was a garbage truck emptying bins nearly every night around 10pm and every morning like 5-6, no sleep ins for us! The pool area is nice but small, only 10 sun beds around the immediate pool area, otherwise you can go around the cafe area or upstairs. People reserving sun beds from 0800 and not using till 11, very frustrating. Was fine good location but wouldn't stay again.

Pretty good hotel with OK facilities. Solid. Alive for the dollar (Euro). A bit away from the action but not awful in terms of location. We had one issue with a bathroom drain plug but they repaired it.

Fantastic location

Great location and reception area with friendly enough staff. Unfortunately the rooms are nothing like the website! Our room was like a 1970's throw back with lots of dark wood and navy blue flowery carpet! Clearly some rooms must be renovated but we didn't see any. Tea and coffee facilities not stocked so when we asked at reception, he was rather accusatory as though we'd had some and used them already? Views from the roof top pool and terraces were beautiful but it was all a bit shabby and in need of some TLC. The hotel suited our needs as we were out all the time, nice and quiet to sleep but we wouldn't choose it again
