High quality service, professional staff

Location: Puerto Morales is a fun little town nearby we took the bicycle tour from the resort
The resort was undergoing major construction during our stay. Was not happy with golf carts constantly driving around on the walkways. Other than that we had a wonderful time. We will try to go back after the construction is finished. We enjoyed the food, the beach and the gym. Ramana the yoga and fitness instructor was excellent 🙂

the location of my room was excellent.

Pros: staff was so professional.
Cons: be transparent
Location: the location if fine and to do things are about 30 minutes which is okay.
I did not know the swimming pool was under construction when I made my reservation. the beach was so rocky.

Main pool closure was so disappointing

Pros: The staff was the best, hands down.
Cons: The food was lacking. Very few choices at the buffet restaurants. The buffet choices are extremely limited.
Location: The location is as the name says, in the marina, and the beach is what it is. Very rocky and ok for a quick soak in the water.
We traveled with 15 people for our recent wedding at El Cid. Upon arrival, I was informed that the main pool (one of the MAIN reasons we selected this pool) had closed the night before and would be closed the entire time we were there. I knew that the hotel was sold out and that the other pool was extremely small in size. We had a group of 8 twenty year olds and the reason that I selected this hotel to get married at was for the jetty for the ceremony, but also for the large pool with a slide and area for jumping. The smaller pool which should have been a quiet area, turned into the animation team's home base. Loud music blasting and games such as beer drinking contests happened all day. We traveled with our parents in their 80's and they just couldn't take the blasting music at the pool and right in front of their room in the 23 building. Also, they are down a specialty restaurant because of construction and the main buffet had relocated to the Mexican restaurant. I tried to not let these things ruin our time, but for the price that we paid to travel their as a group, the amenities that were "beyond" the hotel's control, were disappointed. I think the hotel should have been more forth coming with the pool issue when we were checking in and definitely compensated guests for this huge inconvenience in the form of a future hotel stay. I understand that their are things beyond control, but with a beach as lacking as El Cid's the large pool was the main attraction for us.

Amazing!

My boyfriend and I visited this hotel last week for 5 days and 4 nights, but it actually ended up being 4 days because my transportation scheduled a really early departure time. Despite my transportation basically stealing our entire morning, our stay absolutely amazing. The hotel is beautiful and a lot bigger than you see in the pictures. The staff is extremely attentive and friendly. It helped that my boyfriend and I spoke Spanish, which made conversations easy and entertaining. We ended up upgrading to an ocean view room last minute for a a higher price than we could've gotten in the original purchase, but that's obviously optional. It was worth it in the end, because their "lagoon view" room wasn't too appealing. Anyway, like in many of the reviews, the only location downfall is the rocky beach. And if you're looking for a party, the closest you'll get is the nighttime entertainment. Besides that, our only complaint was that the towels were a little too rough, and the humidity affected the room with kind of a rustic smell. But other than that, the food is great, the staff is perfect, both pools are beautiful, the jacuzzi seemed okay even though we didn't get to try it, and even the beach was beautiful despite the seaweed and rocks. However the leftside of the beach (by the smaller pool) is a lot less rocky. But if you bring water shoes you'll be fine. The cons do not compare to the pros. Plus there's not a lot of people yet. I really hope to come back!

there are better options

Pros: Restaurant, pool, and ground employees did their best to make you feel at home.
Cons: Someone in charged to implement service to all guess.
Location: far away from everything.
When checking in those ladies are rude. They do not care if you are tired or do not want to deal with their attitudes but you have to. I did not see any one taking responsibility or being there to correct their rudeness. We flew overnight from LA and the room was ready when was time to check in, and I understand that. Since we were there since 7 AM I figured they will give us a room that is ready early but no. Every time I asked them to see if the room was ready ( 12, 1pm, 2 pm) they were mad. We did not feel welcomed at all. Plus our room was not clean 2 days out of the 5 days. I called to let them know about our room and she would answer oh do you want your room clean lol.... Valentines Imperial Riviera Maya an excellent hotel. A year before we stayed there wow what a service. Got there early the room was ready, they made reservations for us to have breakfast, answered any questions we had and make us feel great. Little things make you smile as a guess. Watch out with the time BS shared they offered. Its like 4 hours and approx 35K to be a part of it. Be careful

Hotel OK,,, beach and water needs some work

Pros: small but large enough
Cons: Free access to Buffet, no need to have hostess seating everyone,, waste of time and delays things to much. Easier menu/access to food at beach.
Location: Maybe 30 minutes from Cancun airport, Port Morelas is small not so many things to do in area. Some dolphins in front of place
This hotel was recommended by friends. If your a beach & in the water(ocean) type person,, forget this place,,, the beach front and sand into water is not good... the REEF is off-shore,,, so the entire water experience in front of beach is Full of rocks,,, you can not dive into the ocean,,, we are talking big rocks/reef close to surface under water... So we didn't spend much time at ocean. Lots of friendly people, staff OK, but nothing over the top.

Family fun resort

Food was OK, nothing to rave about. The staff was over the top. This resort was safe and quite. The beach was very disappointing. Over all was just ok but would It is clean , comfortable and not far from the airport.

Best staff!

I stayed at Marina El Cid in 2016 (spring break). We went back this year because of the service we received previously. David, Fernando, Sol and Captain Mario are just a few of the excellent staff this place has to offer. We had a great time! I would go back in a heartbeat!

Nice hotel but NOT the beach!

Pros: it was ok
Location: the beach was awful, could not get in the water!
We were disappointed from the very first day! Never ever experience like that. The beach was very rocky , hardly could get in the water!
