4 nights at the Acacia

Posted Jul 15, 2016
Pros: Ambiance, decor, location.
Cons: Shower temp was hard to regulate, going from steaming hot to cold, and back again! Also, the floors in the room did not appear to be mopped or swept.
Location: For the local neighborhood experience -Calle Loiza vintage boutiques, Kamoli Kafe, Ocean Park Cafe. An easy walk to Condado resort area or Santurce.
Overall I had a very good experience at the Acacia. The decor and ambiance are very peaceful and pleasing with a lot of personal touches. The front desk always has a large water dispenser filled with lemon, orange, or cucumber infused ice cold water! Such a nice touch when coming in and going out of the hotel. The hotel staff are excellent - very friendly and accommodating. There is a large stone hot tub in the back which at first I thought was kinda strange, being in a tropical climate. But after the first dip, I was sold. SOOO relaxing for my tired legs and feet after a long day of trekking around San Juan! There is a small pool at their sister hotel, just up the street, At Wind Chimes, and we were the only two people using it the two times we went in. Wind Chimes is also a beautiful hotel with lots of lush greenery throughout so if you are looking for a more tropical ambience, you might want to choose this over the Acacia. Both are lovely though. Acacia is located just off of the beach and our room had an ocean view. Most of the rooms are accessed from an outer set of winding tiles stairs and there is a little balcony in front of those rooms. This hotel is perfect for someone looking for a low-key, quiet, neighborhood experience with a more intimate, personal touch. It's not for those who prefer the high-end resort experience.

Escape for a night

Posted Jul 9, 2016
Pros: Very friendly, accommodating staff, clean, tasteful. Niche restaurant is delicious! The chef is wonderful!
We live in Condado, but our electricity went out and we needed a place to stay for one night. We had been to Niche restaurant and had a wonderful time and delicious meal, so we decided to check out the hotel for a night. For the price, I was beyond satisfied. The hallway on our floor was charmingly decorated and the room had tasteful island decor. It was very clean, and we had a breezy veranda where I sat outside with a coffee in the morning and looked at the ocean.

Nothing that i expected!!

Posted Apr 29, 2016
Well lets start with the fact i booked my reservation at the Acacia hotel. After trying to check in at noon and having the door locked and everyone on break, I had to call the number on the door to find out if our room was ready. I was told no, not until 3 pm, which was ok. I understood that was the check in time. I came back at 2:45 pm and was still told I had to wait until 3 pm. I returned at 4 pm only to have to wait another 15 minutes to be told there was a mix up with my reservation and that I to stay at another hotel which I NEVER MADE A RESERVATION TO!!!! I Wasnt asked if it would be ok or given any option, which i really didn't appreciate!! Then there were no elevators so we had to carry 8 suitcases up to the second floor. Then we were given an actal key to the locks on the doors. I travel all the time. Every Hotel I stay at gives you credit card style keys. I recived one key and was told if i lost the key it would cost me $150 dollars to replace. I had to ack for a second key!! Now i travel with my kids that are teenagers. They need to have a key to the room, But if you know teenagers there is no way I expect them not to misplace this one metal key for three days while on vacation. The last straw was upon our arrival when i asked how long the pool was open until, i was told it was available 24 hours a day. The next nite my family and another couple were asked to leave the pool at 10:30 pm Because our conversation was too loud.

Lobby is the best part

Posted Apr 24, 2016 on Orbitz
Cons: Investing more in room upkeep.
Cute hotel with very nice lobby and pool areas, and trendy restaurant within, all located in a relatively nice area of San Juan. The room was disappointing in comparison to the lobby, with relatively poor maintenance and the very cheapest soap and shampoo. Nonetheless, we are keeping it on our list of options should we ever need to stay outside Old San Juan again.
