Wonderful, relaxing paradise (:

Posted Apr 5, 2017
Pros: cleanliness, attention to detail, drinks, many food options, beauty
Location: Easy bus ride to downtown/Malecon boardwalk, and Old Town.
This is an incredibly priced all-inclusive resort. The staff are friendly, helpful, and overall incredibly attentive to detail. Rooms are cleaned thoroughly and public bathrooms are constantly cleaned every 30 min. The drinks were all good, plenty of options for food. You get 1 alacarte dining option with every 2 nights stay, so definitely eat at Surf & Turf around sunset! Make your reservation at least one day before. If you want to be involved with the entertainment, there are plenty of options or you can just relax and enjoy the pool/beach. The other visitors were mostly families or adults, so if you're looking to meet other spring-breakers or young couples, there weren't many when we went in March. You can exchange currency from dollars to pesos at the front desk for a good rate, but not pesos to dollars. Easy bus ride a block away south to Malecon boardwalk or downtown area, only 7.50 peso. Or a taxi is easily 70-80 peso (you can negotiate). Right outside the resort, they will get you a taxi back to the airport, 40-50 peso. Taxis from the airport to Canto are more expensive because city taxis aren't allowed, but you'll get a cheaper price if you withdraw pesos from ATM or exchange dollars. When you walk outside the airport, there are people holding small signs with prices and zones (Canto del Sol is in zone 1), we got a large "economy" van for 5+ for 520 pesos or they would take ~$36 dollars

Staff is outstanding

Posted Apr 4, 2017
Pros: Not too many kids. Had a great adult vibe. There are designated smoking areas which is great so people are not smoking around the pool area.
Location: Can get to the Malecon area via taxi or public bus and many people even walk.
This is not a super fancy resort but it is clean and comfortable and the staff is outstanding. The buffet food is above-average for buffet food and you can always find a station cooking something fresh and hot. The pool is very clean and the food/cocktail staff around the pool does a great job. This is our second time at this resort and we will return.

super nice staff with a great view of ocean

This place was great. I highly recommended eating at Los Peces (snack bar) for breakfast. The sunset view is great at night. Also visit the boardwalk if you have a chance and eat at Senor Frogs

We enjoyed the lively atmosphere at the pool, there was a more private pool also, if we wanted. Very good food, with gluten Free options. Great location for walking places.

Everything you want and need in a resort

Posted Mar 17, 2017
I went with a group of 5 to this resort and we want to go back as soon as possible! The resort was beautiful, staff was so friendly and welcoming, and the hotel was very clean. The hotel is right on the beach with a beautiful view of the ocean and mountains. Sand is soft. Resort is very close to downtown where the nightclubs and shops are(I recommend going downtown it is awesome!) Food was pretty good, and open almost all day and night. Ages vary at this Hotel. There was a ton of activities going on at or near the hotel. Overall, it was a blast and I recommend this resort to anyone!

Old but nice hotel

Posted Mar 16, 2017
Food was good Food service excellent Old hotel Bed was really hard and uncomfortable but very clean room. We went to hotel to play tennis mostly. Most of courts were rented out to a gymnastics group so we only had 2 courts to fight over. It would of been nice if they had tennis clinics or more tennis activities since it is a tennis resort. We wanted to play doubles with guests our level but they couldn't figure that out. Beach was small but okay. Smokers we close to entrance of beach access so you had to pass them first. They say 100% non smoking hotel but there were areas for smokers .. We had money issues. Front desk would not exchange dollars if there was the slightest imperfection. I.e. Small rip or ink marks Very frustrating at the end of our trip.

We will stay again!

Pros: Small and more of an intimate feeling.
Cons: Definitely, the lunch and dinner buffets. There was just zero flavor. That is all though.
Location: For SURE check out Blake's for dinner. It's 1 block away and we seriously, had best Italian food. Check out the Malecon too.
My husband and I stayed at Cantos del Sol from 3/1-3/10/17. Overall, we had a WONDERFUL time. The resort is older and on the smaller scale, but that did not take away from it at all. The room was clean and comfortable. After reading other reviews, when we checked in, I immediately requested that we have a mattress topper brought in. It really made the difference in a good nights sleep. We had no view at all (a building), but we really didn't care because we weren't in the room often anyway. Definitely not a deal breaker for us. We were fortunate to have booked a VIP room (it was a free perk) and we had the benefit of a microwave, refrigerator and a small cook top. We wouldn't have been able to take advantage of the cook top, as there were no pans, dishes, etc. Maid service was impeccable and we were never worried about leaving personal items in the room. Valuables were locked in the safe and we never had an issue with that, nor were we uncomfortable in using it.The buffet food..... breakfast can't be ruined. However, the lunch and dinner buffets were bland at best. Decent selection, but we just decided to not eat there. There is a great poolside café that offers homemade chicken fingers (amazing), pizza (meh), hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken burgers, fish tacos (amazing), shrimp tacos (amazing), chips, salsa and other things that you can order right off of a menu to have it made fresh. Entire staff wants you to have a good time and works hard to see it happen!

Pros: Pros: Friendly staff, location
Cons: Food Buffet, tennis court reservation process, mattresses
Location: Nearby Malecon - walk the beach or take a short bus ride
Just spent 5 days at Cantos Del Sol. We had a great time! All of the staff were very friendly. We loved the location on the beach and near Malecon. The room was comfortable. The mattress was hard but asked for a pad and it was better after that first night. The food was pretty good - not a lot of variety at the buffet. We enjoyed both the Surf & Turf and the Italian restaurants. We played tennis 3 of the 4 days. It was difficult to reserve an outdoor court in the morning. You had to get up early and reserve a court and it was always the same people at the prime times. Also, doubles teams would reserve an hour in each couples name so played for two hours during the prime morning times. Seems like there is a better, more fair way to reserve a court.
