Few things need to change........

Pros: I liked the property very well taken care of. The staff was very attentive if you needed a cocktail while lounging at the pool.
Cons: The food!!
Location: It was a quick easy cab ride from airport to hotel. You could also walk the beach for miles if you wanted.
We recently got back from our first trip to Puerto Vallarta. We decided to stay at this hotel due to the 5 star rating and reviews from others. My fiancé and I travel often and have stayed at many all inclusive resorts. Overall experience was not the best. The resort itself and staff were very nice. The food was terrible in our eyes. First day we tried the buffet by the beach for lunch and dinner. Buffet food was terrible. Not 5 star by any means. There were flies and birds flying around everywhere which bothers me when it comes to buffet food. The next day tried hamburger at beach bar and it was completely raw....sent it back twice. That evening was the worst....ate at the Italian restaurant the seafood pasta dish was not cooked right. Within 4 hours I had food poisoning. Vomiting for 7 hours straight. When my fiancé told the staff they all of a sudden acted like they couldn't speak english. Long story short we left the resort and went to different resort where the food was better.

Enjoyed our stay

We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Most speak English and are very polite. The resort grounds are very well maintained. Many beautiful palms and flowers. The beach was perfect and groomed every morning. The resort is 20 to 30 minutes from the downtown PV boardwalk, it cost us $10 US for the taxi ride there. The food was great, the French restaurant is a must!

excellence abounding

The staff couldn't have done more to make our stay phenomenal. They were courteous friendly and totally accommodating. The concierge service was first class compared to any hotel I have ever stayed in.

Paradise in Mexico

Pros: Service, rooms, view, food
Cons: Please improve wifi. It was spotty at best especially in the pool areas.
We had an amazing 5 day stay at the Grand Velas. Everyone was friendly, nice and accommodating. The rooms, food, service and atmosphere were top notch.

Room open on the ocean side.

Pros: we were there for a wedding and the wedding and reception came off very good. Also the meals were very good for a large group.
Cons: The rooms and window could be cleaned better also having hot water is important.
The first 2 rooms we were escorted to were so dirty they were not expectable. The 3rd. room was clean but we asked for a king bed, we received 2 double and the patio door was so dirty you couldn't see out of the window. I have pictures. We also did not have hot water for the first day and a half. it was fixed the last day.

Staff was top notch

Beautifully maintained. I just needed a rocking chair or recliner. I loved William the hawk and the peacocks.

It just doesn't feel like it used to...

This was our fourth year at Grand Velas. It delivers on food quality and cleanliness as always. The service at the pool was not super this year. I kept asking for drinks and then eventually walking to the bar to retrieve them myself and having that awkward moment of running into my waiter there. :/ The concierge was kind of a mess too. We were assured dinner reservations but they were cancelled the first night (or never made) and then dinner plans kept getting changed. It felt disorganized and harder to get into the full service restaurants than in prior years. In the end, they fixed it but it took me loudly objecting. Just more stress than one would hope for on a vacation

One week vacation from Chicago

Pros: We loved our room and everyone who worked their really cared that we were happy.
Cons: More restaurants
Location: We very much enjoyed the Whale watching and going into town was fun
First time in puerto Vallarta and staying at an all inclusive. My wife and I just wanted to get away from our home and relax for a week which we did. We took two trips one to downtown and the other was whale watching. Both were good choices even though it seems like all the shops buy the same manufactured goods and re-sell them. The shops were not exciting but a worth while trip. Are friends told us to take the bus and it would be an enjoyable experience. Neither one of us loved the bus trip as it was long and mostly tourists like are self were on the bus. Are stay at Grand Vellas was outstanding. We upgraded to a room with a jacuzzi on the balcony. It didn't work the first 3 days and most of the workers didn't speak English. Thankfully I downloaded a great app, Google translate which gave me the ability to communicate with all. After 3 days they moved us to a better room with a working jacuzzi. The food, service and ambiance was wonderful. Are main server during the day, Jose Ramos was terrific and also our concierge Isabel was also wonderful. Are favorite restaurant was Italian and the manager mr. Guzman treated us like family. We ate to much and now being back in Chicago we have to lose all the weight we gained from all the terrific food. Great trip hope to go back next year!
