Nice hotel that is in middle of upgrades!

Posted Feb 28, 2017
Friendly staff with great desire to help with any needs. Most speak or understand English. Rooms are slowly being updated. Small thrifty mart in hotel for convenience. Breakfast buffet options are excellent. Close to beach and tour or taxi and bus needs. If you like to be away from pavement and traffic good place to observe and interact with local culture. Good places to eat. Juans place and Juacalitos within 5 minute walk. Great little fresh fruit and hot dog stand at corner of street. Great place for someone who doesn't like the commercialized offer and concrete jungle! Can't wait to see it next year!

Lovely traditional Mexican hotel.

Posted Feb 28, 2017
Pros: Has good family feeling. Not crowded
Cons: Need more dishes in kitchen
Location: Wonderful location in the small village of Mismaloya. Near a beautiful beach and within walking distance to some of the best restaurants in the bay.
Lovely location near the jungle but within walking distance to a beautiful beach. Family and pet friendly. Clean and well run restaurant on site with good buffet breakfast.

Quiet hotel with character, off the beaten track.

Posted Feb 27, 2017
Pros: Staff and setting. Usually quiet. The real Mexico!
Cons: Maintainence and equipment needs improvement. More seating around the pool.
Location: A short walk to beach with palapa restaurants, boats for hire for snorkelling, fishing, whale watching. A walk to the zoo and groceries. Buses nearby.
We found the staff very friendly, polite, and helpful. The garden and pool were lovely. CThere was a large three level pool for younger children The beds were comfortable and clean, but the kitchen was poorly supplied.

Perfect location. Bus stop very close for 8 pesos.

Posted Feb 12, 2017
Pros: Free breakfast every morning
Cons: Wifi not so great, but did work barely. Cold hot tub
Location: Zoo, Zip Line, waterfalls, beach tours, small local towns to explore up the mountain. 2 films made close by.
Nice smaller hotel just the right spot. Near all the best attractions in the area.

You get what you pay for.

Over all, a good experience. Good location, close to the beach, nice pool, good buffet breakfast every morning, little store handy, close to the buses. The rooms were ok. The fridge and kitchen to be desired. We used the fridge, but not any of the kitchen... Cleaning was sporadic - sometimes great, sometimes not at all. Nice balcony outside room that we used a lot overlooking the pool. Got homemade guacamole from the restaurant a couple nights. 3 Bucks! A lot of expats, lots of older crowd. Nice people tho. The staff could be friendlier.. The area and location are the best part tho. Stay here outside of the city and away from the all inclusive and take the bus everywhere for 50 cents! Do things on your own and get out and explore. We had a blast! Already planning to go back, but to a different location.

January - February 2017

Posted Feb 9, 2017
Pros: We liked the location in the Village and the bus stop and beach close by.
Cons: The hotel needs improvements and repairs. The kitchen is not equipped so we had to improvise and loan from each other. New furniture as chairs.
Location: We had a new church next door. They celebrated a holiday for 5 nights. That did entertain us. The bus runs all the time and got us around.
When we arrived we were given a room on the first floor. We immediately knew we would not stay there since it was dirty, TV not working and no fridge. It was also next to the hotel's washing facility and noisy. Our friend was staying on 4th floor and her room was much better. We accepted the first night but told the hotel they had to find a better room for us next day. We went back several times and made them write the number of the room which we found out would be free the next day. We got the room and was happy with the view over the hotel garden. We liked the location to the bus and beach and found that a lot of nice Canadians had found the hotel also. The breakfast was good but with a very weak coffee. (bring your own although it took us 4 days to get a coffee maker). The hotel needs an upgrade but for the price we paid we were satisfied since we liked Mismaloya. The hotel might have new owners next year and the price would then go up three fold ? Hopefully that will include the repairs the hotel needs at this point. Several people stayed for 4 - 5 weeks and found that was a good value but would not come back for a much higher price.

Rustic place with friendly staff

Posted Feb 6, 2017
Pros: peaceful, rustic
Cons: getting towels in our room
We enjoyed our stay …we knew what to expect from other reviews and got exactly that . Staff are very friendly and breakfast was good ! The only glich was we had to ask for towels everyday . To us this was not a life altering issue . All in all it was a pretty good place to relax and be close to beach and sun …Bus is right there and cabs available if needed . just a reminder to bring your own hangers !

great place!

Posted Feb 4, 2017
Pros: The location. It's a 5 minute walk to the beach, close to the bus stop and a great atmosphere.
Cons: It needs to be updated and looks like that is happening.
Location: Several excellent restaurants, small grocery stores, the beach, the bus that goes between Boca and Mismaloya.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Hotel Iguana. Very clean and the staff works hard. The pool was enjoyable and the social aspect of the place was fantastic. It is located in a small village and you get an authentic Mexican experience. I would definitely return!
