"Basic hotel close to the beach"
If you want a decently located hotel in downtown Puerto Vallarta that covers the basics, this works. It is two minutes from the beach and the Malecon Boardwalk, right next to the artisan mercado, and very close to public transit. Our room was overlooking Los Morelos, the main road, and busses passed constantly, which was actually quite loud. The reception and cleaning staff were friendly and helpful, offering suggestions and taking the time to chat with us. We speak Spanish, so that helped, but the front desk staff seemed pretty able in English, too, from what I heard. We noticed a Sanitation warning posted on the front window, so they must have been in violation in some areas. The rooms are basic; the mattresses were hard, the pillows not very comfortable, there were only thin white sheets and a thin blanket for bedding. We had one double bed and one twin for three people. Our parents' room had a double plus a futon; they also has a kitchenette. The first room we were assigned smelled musty, so we asked for a different room. The second room smelled fine, but we noticed several yellow stains on the sheets, which we were told were bleach stains and were assured the sheets were clean. At least this made it easy to see that they changed the sheets daily. Our air conditioning worked, though it was fairly loud Our parents' air conditioning broke, but they fixed it the next day. The pool area is small but fine for a quick dip; from 1:00 to 7:00, they had two-for-one happy hour.
