A nice place to return to after a nice day out

Posted Mar 19, 2017
First, I found the women who managed the desk to extremely friendly and helpful, as were the housekeepers. They even helped me with a little Spanish. While, this is no five-star hotel, it is probably more than 3.5. Although the rooms and building are dated, they were very clean, and it was clear there was an effort to maintain them. One minor complaint would be that it can be noisy, particularly early in the morning and late at night. That could be because apart from hotel rooms, there are apartments and the staircase winds up three flights to the rooftop patio and more apartments through the centre of the building. What I liked most about this hotel was that it was away from the busy tourist traffic, about five or six blocks from the beach, but in a more local neighbourhood. There appeared to be more ex-pats living in the area than tourists, and it was great to soak up a bit more culture as Puerto Vallarta residents went about their daily affairs. There are several restaurants, bars, green grocers and corner convenience stores within minutes walking. It is also an easy walk to the Malecon area and several banks, including an HSBC and Scotiabank, and a Starbucks if you do not want to enjoy a local café. The river is a block over, and a small island in that part of the island contains some interesting Hollywood movie memorials and leads to the road leading either to the beach or the Malecon area. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel. It is not expensive, excellent value.

Real Taste of Mexico Budget Hotel

Posted Mar 19, 2017
Pros: I loved the location and there were good low priced restaurants everywhere. Shopping was excellent. Convenient economical bus stop. Walkable to ocean
Cons: No swimming pool, refrigerators, microwaves, elevator to only 3rd floor. No windows. No phones in rooms. More voluntary information on check-in.
Location: Walkable to ocean, Malecon, River Cuale, great Mexican market, shopping, low cost restaurants, bus stop to anywhere.
Economical real Mexico budget hotel. Nothing fancy but very clean. The staff is excellent for any help you may need, particularly Rosa Marie. Friendly atmosphere. Close to everything. Bus stop to everywhere very close by. No bugs. Comfortable bed. Rooftop patio and view were great. There is a pay phone in the lobby. I am rating this as excellent particularly because of the cost of the room, staff, and cleanliness. The things I list in improvements would only add to the cost, so I can live without them.

Pros: Everything
Love the ambiance of this old Mexican hotel. Beautiful patios and seating throughout. Lovely central courtyard. Close to Malecon, good beaches, river Cuale, many lovely areas to walk. Has the feel of old Mexico, very, very nice. Great prices, great options for rooms and apartments.

Clean and budget friendly

Posted Mar 11, 2017
Pros: Price, cleanliness, friendly/helpful staff, location
Cons: Wi-fi in the rooms
Location: It's located within a few blocks of the beach, and there are some great restaurants nearby. It's also within easy walking distance of the Flea Marke
It's an inexpensive, no-frills hotel in the old part of town. The staff are friendly, the room was clean and the bed was comfortable. There is an issue with noise. The rooms have only wooden shutters and the windows open onto the central courtyard; you can hear every conversation, tv show and snore from nearby rooms, but most guests were pretty considerate. You can also hear trucks driving along the cobblestone streets in the area, but it's such a charming area, we thought it was worth it. It's certainly not a luxury hotel, but they aren't charging luxury prices either. It is what it is, but we'll gladly stay there again.

Clean old Mexican hotel, 6 blocks to beach.

Posted Mar 4, 2017
Pros: Location, friendly staff, room size, balcony, price.
Cons: A bit better maintenance, fix the little things.
Location: In area of locals, 6 blocks to Malecon & beach, lots of restaurants within walking distance.
Great hotel for me, as I'm a 72 year male traveller, not a tourist. I like to experience the local lifestyle, and this was ideal. The hotel is old, but it is kept clean by it's excellent staff. There's no pool, but there's a nice deck on the roof. The front desk staff are also very helpful, and speak English. It's very noisy from 0700-2300h, then it quiets down, but remember it is Mexico, so relax and enjoy it.

Not bad for the price

Posted Feb 23, 2017
Pros: The staff was very friendly, morning coffee was provided in the lobby, the mattresses were very firm, the hotel provides bottled water in your room
Cons: It could be a bit cleaner (see above).
Location: Great location, near restaurants and bars, massage spas. Also near bus routes, including to and from the airport. A 10-minute walk to the beach
This hotel certainly isn't the Four Seasons, but it isn't bad for the price. It's a few blocks from the beach but it's near many good "off the beaten path" restaurants and bars. It has no elevator, so if that is an issue, be sure to request a room on the ground floor. It has a very nice rooftop deck (5 flights up), with a great view overlooking the old town area. My room could have been a little cleaner--it had some black mold on the bathroom ceiling and LOTS of dirt on the ceiling fan blades. There is no hot water in the bathroom basin and you have to let the shower run a minute or two before the water heats up. It isn't very soundproof and there is a lot of early morning chatter in the hallway, so if you're a light sleeper, bring some earplugs.

Great stay

Posted Feb 2, 2017
Pros: Cleanliness, location, Mexican decor and friendly staff. Reasonable rates
Cons: Mattress was on the hard side
Location: Great location if you like old town as we do, good food and drink close by. A bit of a walk to the Malacon but taxis and buses are close
We stayed 2 weeks and enjoyed our time there. Our room was cleaned daily by very nice ladies and the hotel is traditional Mexican and very budget friendly. Location was great, lots of good restaurants within walking range. The front desk staff were friendly, helpful and communicated well in English
