Beach is the only Good Thing

Pros: The beach.
Cons: Customer service needs a great deal of improvement. Staff treated us as if we were bothering them.
Location: The beach is beautiful.
Extremely disappointed. We had contacted the hotel weeks prior to our stay to ensure that we would be given the correct rooms (2 rooms with 2 double beds adjoining or next to each other). We had a party of 4 and were told that only 3 could be in a room, which is why we needed 2 rooms. We were given 2 rooms with king beds in different areas of the resort. We spent hours with the front desk staff trying to rectify the situation. They were rude and told us that there was nothing they could do. When we asked to see the manager, they refused. They agreed to giving us 2 rooms with double beds that were on the same floor. When we arrived to our rooms, they both had king beds. After returning to the front desk, they gave us one room with double beds in another area of the resort. We would keep the other king room and switch it the next day for a double room. The rooms smelled of mildew. What is advertised as new and modern furniture was dirty and broken. The sliding doors in the bathroom did not work properly. The door came off the track and I got stuck the first time I used it. The air conditioning didn't work at all. It was cooler outside than it was in the rooms. We had to leave the sliding door open each night. There was no hot water in the shower. We were told that we needed to let it run for 5 minutes. After 30 minutes, still no hot water. We mentioned our disappointment and how we enjoyed our stay at another resort. They said that that resort was 5 star and this is 4 star.

Great vacation

Pros: Service was exceptional.
Cons: More live music in the evenings around the pool area. We did not care for the big shows each night. There was too much audience partipation.
Location: There is nothing within walking distance. We tried to shop in the resort markets but But found the doors locked on 3 separate occasions.
We really enjoyed our stay. The food and service was excellent. Everything was maintained beautifully. We paid for the upgrade to a Priviliged room so we were closer to the main gathering points(bar, pool, restaurants). Having a beach bar in the Priviliged area was an nice perk. If you did not pay for the upgrade, everything was farther from the gathering areas.

Nice beach. Good staff. VERY DISAPPOINTING ROOMS!

Pros: The hotel is situated on the widest stretch of beach where it is not rocky unlike the other parts of Bayahibe. Most staff would greet you with a smile
Cons: Definitely the room condition. It needs a MAJOR renovation. Could use some smile from the staff esp. when you don't speak their language.
Location: Takes about 50 minutes from Punta Cana and 1hour 15mins from Santo Domingo. Bayahibe is near Saona island.
We are frequent travelers and our 2nd time in Bayahibe. We always loved the turquoise and calm waters in this area and have always been staying with Iberostar but since it was fully booked at that time, we opted to stay at Catalonia. We checked in on the later side and it wasn't a drag. We booked a standard room which is farther from the beach but we were given a choice if we want a room closer to the beach. An upgrade to a privileged room near the theatre but close to the activities and beach which we liked? why not!! Too good to be true! We couldn't really call it an upgrade because of the room condition but we were enticed because of the location. First of all, the room was dark and feels like you are left in the 1800's. The bathroom tiles were broken and were not grouted properly. Water was leaking from the handheld shower and if you actually take a shower, the water seeps in to the other side of the room, inside the cabinet and molds were already growing from water infiltration because of poor grouting. Water marks on the floor was also evident. We almost slipped twice and had to use towels all over the floor. It was a mess but didn't really ask for a room change because we were mostly on the beach anyway and because of the proximity to the beach and activities plus if this is the kind of condition for what they called a privilege room, I could only imagine what standard room would look like. Otherwise most of the staff were nice and would always greet you with OLA!!

Pros: Large clean room, nice balcony-good staff.
Cons: not much
Location: About 45 minutes from Punta Cana airport-no trouble with shuttle . We took a 5 hour trip-included boat ride on River Chavon and LaRomana.
We stayed in a Privileged room(recommended).Everything was fine. Close to the beach and restaurants.. Great beach and water. House keeping staff were excellent even with the language problems. Very few English speaking guests or staff but enough to get by.
