Fantastic staff and accommodations. Very clean. Staff were extremely attentive and never felt like we had to "look" for staff. Always had beach/pool chairs available and didn't feel like we had to "save" spots. Food was excellent, far exceeded expectations.

Change with new management

I am a five-time return visitor to the Grand Bavaro, and have always found it superb. This year, many of the activities have been moved to a lesser adjacent resort owned by the same company. Instead of being one minute from the pool, they are 15 minutes away. While a 15 minute walk to an exercise class is not excessive, it proved very inconvenient. Should they move the classes back to the Grand Bavaro, I will return next year. Otherwise, I won't.

White sand and friendly faces

We had very relaxing time on our vacation.The rooms were very nice and super clean.The Dominican people appear to pride themselves with excellent customer service and we were always greeted with a friendly hello.The white sandy beach is wonderful and you have the luxury of walking for miles of coastline shared by other resorts bordering Iberostars property.We were very disappointed in our butler failing us for our fine dining requests.We made two separate attempts at scheduling fine dining and both were forgotten so we spent the trip eating in the Buffet.We were a repeat customer but that was a dealbreaker for us so off to somewhere else next year.

Cons: More name brand liquor.
Location: Never left the resort. No reason to do so.

Beautiful upscale hotel

Location: We did a reef snorkeling excursion with small sharks and stingrays in a safe environment, and a land excursion with various fun local experiences.
The hotel facility and grounds were beautiful. The food in the main buffet restaurant was good but not great. It looked great and was attractively laid out, but it was mostly bland and sometimes salty. The Italian restaurant food was very good as was the French gourmet restaurant. The staff was very friendly and service oriented. English language was weak in many cases, but their very friendly and positive attitude mostly made up for that. Our butler Victor was really great and made sure that we were well taken care of all week. The fitness center was a real concern, as it appeared designed by someone who did not really understand its use, and no one really kept an eye on its functionality. Typically 80-90% of people entering a fitness center want cardio exercise such as Elliptical, Treadmill or Stationary bike. However two-thirds of the floor space was weight related machines which got very little use. There were only 3 elliptical machines, 3 treadmills and two stationary bikes, and 2 of the treadmills and 1 of the bikes were out of order all week. it was not uncommon in the morning for disappointed customers to walk away disappointed or have to wait around because all of the working cardio related machines were all in use. The guest computer stations worked fine but did not have printers, so printing my boarding pass required getting the front office staff to let me into their office where there was a printer.

Nice hotel but breakfast/lunch needs work

Pros: The beach and swim up bar were my favorites. Dinners were very good.
Cons: Have to make reservations at any ala carte restaurant and they make the process very difficult even though all the restaurants were never busy or full
Location: Golf at their course was top flight
Hotel was nice, beach was great, staff were excellent. Thought the breakfast and lunch choices were limited and generally not that good. Hot food items were always cold and quality was just ok. Also we came to play golf and were supposed to get 2 free rounds but they would only give us one unless we sat through their membership meeting. We did not go there to sit through some time share pitch.

Nicest staff anywhere

I have traveled extensively and never met a more genuinely warm and friendly resort staff as as the Iberostar Grand Bavaro. The accommodations were too rate and the all inclusive pricing can't be beat. My only complaint is with the Punta Cana airport which is not equipped to handle the large amount of tourists I observed during my trip. But that aside, the Grand Bavaro is a winner.

LOVED THE ACTIVITY CREW

Our favorite was the beach activity crew we will miss you . The bed and maid service awesome. Hotel 40 percent occupied and we're not given room upgrade. Bar drinks only one Enrique was awesome. Hate to say drinks were better Rui Palace Dominican. Think we're done with Punta shuttle driver to hotel got lost one hour forty min. Staff informed us they can't keep tips and loose jobs if you don't mention there names. Buffet staff very unfriendly. Think we will go back to Cancun. Ended trip with food poisoning still ill. Now comes the Zika virus. We would have gone back in May now going to Iberostar Rivera Maya

Pros: The staff was outstanding.
Cons: The food could have been better.
My husband and I have traveled quite a bit to the Caribbean and agree that the Iberostar Grand is by far the best value. The service was outstanding. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate every request. The resort was pristine and the rooms well-appointed. I was disappointed by the prevalence of tobacco use, but I suppose that is no different at other resorts. In retrospect, we wish we would have upgraded our room to a better view.
