Great as long as you know what you're getting

Posted Apr 23, 2016 on Hotels
The "hotel" is actually a condominium that hasn't been sold yet. Very few people own these units and it is so off the beaten path that very few tourists stay there either. This means that the beach and beautiful pool area are completely deserted. At first it was very eerie, but I got used to it (sort of). If I weren't already familiar with the area from living there, it would have been challenging to stay in this hotel. The roads are not marked and poorly lit at night which makes traveling outside of the hotel's neighborhood a challenge. If you are going to stay here I recommend a car. There is a charge to get outside of the area and there is NOTHING in the area. The only place to get food after 3 pm is an extremely over-priced, mediocre-at-best restaurant about a 5 minute walk away. The condo was equipped with a barely functioning fridge, plates, utensils, and microwave. We drove to the nearby village and bought things from the supermarket and other local eateries in order to have food to eat. Like I said, it is best to rent a car if you want to stay here because they charge to take you to the village each time you want to get food or get to civilization. This is a beautiful spot if you want absolute silence and a deserted beach. Otherwise, I recommend Bavaro as a better place to stay.

The Luxurious Beverly Hills of Punta Cana

Posted Feb 18, 2016 on Hotels
My stay with Punta Palmera was absolutely fantastic. The food!!!!!!! AMAZINGLY TASTY :) The Marina was less than a 5 min walk in which I took the shuttle or taxi over since I didn't want to mess up my pretty lil heels on the beautiful cobble stone streets. But nonetheless the Marina was stunning, amazing food, drinks, people, and yachts. The hotel staff was very helpful, friendly, and they tried their best to communicate as much English as they could. The free shuttle from the airport is great as well, they even helped me figure out transferring my money to pesos easily at the bank. The rooms also include a kitchen with pretty much almost everything and I mean everything! Since this trip was a solo mission for me, I didn't do much cooking at all but will def considerate it in the next time I return. There's a mini market in the Marina to get grocerys and liquor as well. The beach is fantastic, clean, quite, and absolutely refreshing. Make sure to bring extra bug spray for the mosquitos especially in the Marina. Nightlife is entertaining and full of performances coco bongo & imagine. Taxi service is quick and pretty affordable. Unless you travel to Bavaro many times where most of the nightlife and some activities are located. This trip definitely changed my life. It was luxurious it felt like the Beverly Hills of Punta Cana. Would come back to this place over and over again.

Amazing Stay! Relax and VIP service

Posted Feb 18, 2016
If you want an amazing, relaxing, VIP treatment, not crowded, amazing views, oceanfront, excellent service vacation, this is the perfect choice. The Resort was fully booked and we hardly saw anyone. We felt safe because there was security everywhere. Front desk was very helpful. There is a Marina walking distance which has 2 restaurants, one of them by the name Acqua Mare, excellent food and service. If you want to buy food at a market there is a market by taking a cab $30 round trip. The pool area has a rest which you can purchase food and will be taken you at the pool in the daytime. Also there is a breakfast rest until 11 by the front desk. Overall it was an amazing stay, no kids running around, pool not crowded, beautiful rooms and jacuzzi, with a nice balcony. Staff is amazing specially Johanna she's always around. We went for our Valentine's Anniversary and we def will go back. Worth every cent. Thank you for a superb VIP stay.

Great Overall - PLAYA juanillo.

Posted Jan 21, 2016
Pros: Private
Location: the new cap cana marina, near playa juanillo
Punta Palmera might be as close as you can get to Playa Juanillo. You can see it across the water from from the point of the property. They will give you a ride for 3 dollars but I recommend that you rent a car. Just be careful, driving in Republica Dominicana is different from anywhere else. Be in control and on your toes. Our group of 3 stayed in a studio and we were more than happy and I am coming back for more. The A/C is ice cold. The staff was very friendly and helped us do exactly what we wished such as get groceries, liquor, champagne etc. The desk staff was friendly. Eddie was very helpful. There are some services on site, and there are also restaurants in the nearby marina. It feels private because of all the space that the rooms have. But on a weekend it could potentially be crowded too. The weather is always good, if it rains in the evening, it usually passes quickly. Part of the adjacent property is under development. There is a ton of security, for what reason? I dont know why. It feels safe though and its nice to have some people around. lol

Run-down resort in a barren part of Punta Cana

Posted Dec 28, 2015 on Hotels
The room was in bad condition. The bathroom sink was clogged and the stove didn't work. The locking mechanism on the balcony doors didn't work, so there was no way to secure the unit. The resort was in terrible condition. The rooms adjacent to ours we're run-down. Some units didn't have doors, so someone could have walked into an adjacent unit, crossed the balcony, and entered our unit (since the balcony door lock didn't work.) The pool restaurant / bar was never open during the advertised hours. The only place available to get food was a 20 minute walk from the resort. The beach was gross and totally covered in sea-weed. The surrounding area of Cap Cana was very barren and desolate. A lot of the neighbouring buildings were run-down, empty, and dark at night. Entering and exiting Cap Cana involves passing through security check-points, which is inconvenient and tiresome. Overall this was the worst resort experience we've ever had in Dominican Republic.
