"Great ocean view; easy access to beach/rain forest"
Everything was mostly excellent. One restaurant with limited over-priced menu. If you have a car, suggest you drive to the town for dinner (less than 10 mins). Staff were polite and humorous but not very responsive; don't seem to get good service.

"Amazing Boutique Hotel in Jungle Setting"
This is got to be one of the best boutique hotels I have ever stayed in, and I have traveled all over the world staying in some very nice boutique hotels in: Amsterdam, France, Bali, North Wales, Portugal, Venice and Spain. I find that most boutique hotels are good at one thing and not other things, where Hotel Plaza Yara truly seems to deliver in all areas. The staff are amazing, and truly define the word hospitality, going out of their way to make sure you are happy with every detail. The rooms are positively unique. Large room, great decor and furnishings, clean sheets, good bed, hot water all the time. Our room faced the pool and jungle, which was amazing all times of the day, with the night sounds of the jungle to lull you to sleep. They have 2 outdoor pools and an outdoor hot tub, all maintained daily. I watched the pool guy each morning cleaning and checking chemicals. The hotel entrance is also an art studio with beautiful paintings by local artist, and some very nice sofas to sit on while enjoying a cup of coffee and the art. The breakfast room is on the lower level, joining the amazing back patio. The breakfasts that are served are top notch. If you get the fruit bowl it is very large and full of local fruit. Every breakfast comes with a good portion of local fruit. The staff are true hospitality people from the maintenance and cleaning staff to the front desk staff, GM and also the owner. Hotel Plaza Yara is located 10 minutes by taxi or car from Manu

"Favorite hotel in Costa Rica "
Super friendly and helpful staff. Gabrielle at Karolas restaurant was awesome as was Aiden at the beach. Front desk staff answered all our questions and went above and beyond (laundry service, kids activity room, ride to the beach). Rooms were spacious and well appointed, breakfast was excellent, pool staff and view was amazing, especially at sunset. Great 2 for 1 happy hour at pool. Beach was a bit rocky, but nicest one outside of Manuel Antonio. Only a $10 cab ride to Manuel Antonio. Trails to beach were well cared for and fun way to get some hiking in. Monkeys, sloths, porcupines, and toucan you could see from pool area. We had a great stay - thank you Los altos!

"Like a private resort of your own"
Beautiful resort, friendly and attentive staff, clean, lots of small touches that make it extra special. The resort is off the beaten path...way off the beaten path! Its like you are on a desert island...but with comfy place to stay and waitstaff that remember you and what you like or want. It is a perfect getaway for couples or even parents of very young kids. (May not be for teenagers unless they want to surf. Very isolated and quiet) The beach is beautiful with endless view of coast in both directions. Multiple tiki huts and hammocks and beach chairs are sprinkled throughout the property. Creating intimate places to sit and relax. In the evening they light tiki torches around the pool area. It really is a great place. If it was closer to the town, would never be able to afford to stay!! The rooms are actually small huts/buildings that are spacious and filled with candles and clean linens. There are also small sitting areas/patios for each room that are screened with sheer screens. Couches and hanging swing chairs. It really is a top notch place. They have wake boards and jet skis to rent. It is isolated, can't say that enough...but if you bring the company you wish to spend time with...I don't know what else you would want!

"Great views, lacked some amenities, pricey "
We stayed 5 nights an enjoyed our stay. The ocean view from our room was wonderful and the rooftop terrace was nice with great views. The pool was nice but small. The food was very good, but a bit pricey. We were surprised to find out the pool was open 24 hours but the swim up bar closed at 7:00pm. The bar inside also closed by 10:00pm, so no drinking late into the night. The cool Cave Bar was no longer staffed with a bartender so we did not get to enjoy that, which would have been cool. Our room was good in size as well as the bathroom with a nice large shower. It would have been nice to have a small fridge for water etc. Also I feel the hotel should have given us water in the room but we had to purchase bottles of water ($2 for small & $4 for large). Overall a nice hotel with friendly staff, but I feel it lacks a few amenities, and decor that a 5 star rated hotel should have.

"A great place to relax away from the crowds"
I decided to spend two weeks at the Cocomar to relax after a liveaboard dive vacation to Cocos Island. Even before I got to the hotel, the manager, Chad, was so helpful in answering my questions and helping me to arrange transportation to the hotel from the dock, saving me hours of time traveling back and forth. While I ended up NOT getting a rental car to sightsee all over, Chad said he could arrange for a rental car to be delivered to the hotel. I decided just to spend the time at the beach and reading by the pool. I did indulge in a relaxing in-room massage...twice! I had a fabulous spacious one bedroom suite, which was really an apartment, with a full kitchen, living area, dining area and two lanais. The staff even did my laundry. I was able to get into the town to buy groceries when needed, or I could give Chad a list and it would be taken care of. The (complimentary) breakfasts at the restaurant were tasty and entertaining, watching the nearby iguanas interact. The beach is just across the small dirt road and is so private and perfect to watch the sun melt into the sea. You could walk it probably for miles. The highlight of my stay was the Monkey Mangrove Tour nearby, where we were on a small boat and were able to spend time with the monkeys, even having them perch on our shoulder to lick smashed banana off our palm. I felt totally spoiled during my time at Cocomar. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. I look forward to returning.

"Perfect for families"
Hotel has a great atmosphere for families, with matching amenities. A wonderful kid pool with a slide and a friendly pool bar where they can swim up and request fruit smoothies plus lots of shaded areas for parents to read or also join in the water fun. Two movies a night cater to families as well, and the restaurants are both appropriate for all ages. The breakfast buffet is large and has everything you can imagine, local food as well as the staples of many families (pancakes, waffles, omlettes, eggs etc). The rooms are comfortable, a favorite thing is the spigot outside the rooms to wash sand from the feet and or clothes before heading inside, and the wonderful balconies that have a gorgeous view of the sunset and Manuel Antonio beach. One of the most beautiful beaches in the world is in fact close, about a 0.5mile walk, drive, or best of all- the hotel has shuttles that run continuously all day. STaff is friendly and always willing to help. My only minor complaint- the pillows are kind of lumpy and not particularly comfy, in my opinion.
