Fantastic Visit to Ecuador!

Posted Jul 14, 2014
Pros: We especially liked its charm and cleanliness.
Cons: Nada.
Location: Plan to visit the equator, ride the teleferico, explore Quito's historic churches, and hike the Cotopaxi!
We could not have selected a better B & B. We enjoyed our comfortable stay in Gerrit and Patricia's charming cottage; we enjoyed our exploration of their lovely gardens, and we enjoyed our delicious breakfasts in their beautiful home. Further, Gerrit made a very short visit to Ecuador extremely pleasant by booking our excursions with two excellent tour guides: Jamie and Angela. I highly recommend staying at Tumbaco B & B, and I highly recommend allowing Gerrit to organize your excursions. Because of his assistance, we experienced a fantastic, stress-free visit to Ecuador!

Gerrit gets it right. He'll plan your day trips, get your breakfast order to your taste, get you a cab with old world charm and intelligence.

Beautiful, quiet place

The owners take a great deal of pride in their home, landscaping and guest houses. I was grateful for their helpfulness when I arrived with altitude sickness. My son and I enjoyed being away from the "big city" of Quito to explore that town at our leisure. Thanks to Gerrit's friend Lex, who drove us around the city for sites and an overall view, to get our bearings. His recommendations for restaurants were good. Regarding location, we did not have an exact address upon landing, which was my oversight, and the taxi driver was only aware of the street itself. The B&B is in a complex tucked away behind a guarded gate from the main street.

Tumbaco B&B: Great Retreat, but a Little Far

Posted Jun 8, 2011 on Hotels
Garrit is a fantastic host and the grounds are absolutely stunning. The heated pool and jacuzzi were very welcome. No real complaints here, although the caveat is the location, which is 45 minutes to 1 hour away from major sites in Quito. Be prepared to spend quite a bit of money on transport if traveling to the city every day.

Ideal zwischen Flughafen und Quito. Sicher, bewacht, freundlich und zuvorkommend. Deutschsprachig. Kleine Bungalows, in sehr gepflegter Garten Anlage . Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt.

Bad choice

To far away from everything. Without traffick (read: at night) it take 30 min with taxi from the new airport in Quito. The price for the taxi from the airport was 13,50 USD. If the "hotel" order a taxi for you, it will cost you 25 USD. You have to take a taxi if you want to go to a restaurant. You have to call in advice so they call tell you the street number for the "hotel", otherwise the taxi will have problem to find it.
