Under construction

Posted Jan 12, 2017
Pros: Room was great, save for the bathroom sliding door. Modern and clean feel. Staff was very helpful and attentive.
Cons: Check that the sliding bathroom doors are properly on their tracks. Finish up the construction in the lobby Quickly address OOS elevators
Location: Excellent central location and walkable to many dining options.
I was staying for a overnight business trip (ie, in-town ~24h). The staff was attentive and helpful. The restaurant area was under construction, so current dining area was in the make-shift lobby area. 1 of the 2 elevators was out of service in the evening and you either caught the remaining elevator or had to wait a bit longer. My room was very need, tidy, and had a modern feel. However, I'm not a fan of a sliding frosted glass door as a bathroom door; plus it was off its guiding tracks, so while it did slide, any slight vibrations resulted in repeated knocking of glass on the metal (the door hit the outer part of the track, vs if it was 'on-track' would have met the rubber inserts.) Overall, i'd still go there again.

Beautiful and urbane.

Pros: Extremely attractive and very comfortable. Accommodating lobby area with concierge, valet and other top-notch support services.
Cons: It will be nicest when the construction is completed!
Location: Adjacent to Carolina Theater and much more. Excellent location.
This was a business trip - one night only.

Getting much needed TLC

Posted Nov 14, 2016 on Hotels
This hotel is undergoing some renovations and it is about time. The lobby area, the small bar and the breakfast area were all looking tired and dated so the updates should enhance things. All were ongoing when I stayed in Oct 16. The rooms are always good and comfortable. The downtown area has been revitalised in recent years so there's lot of choice for dinner or drinks and everything is pretty walkable.

Wonderful stay!

Posted Oct 24, 2016 on Hotels
We very much enjoyed our stay. The hotel gave us a quiet corner room (as requested) and everything was clean and tidy. There were some renovations going on down in the lobby, but it did not affect us. Check in was friendly, staff was courteous, and the valet parking gentlemen were nice as well. The bedding was high-end and the furniture appeared to have recently been updated with a "hip" vibe. We had a good night's sleep and ordered breakfast in bed the next morning. Everything went very well and the location can't be beat. We were near all the good restaurants as well as the Performing Arts Center (all within a safe walking distance). When visiting Durham, we will stay here again.

Never stay here unless it is a choice of here or sleeping in your car.
