Good location but run down

Posted Apr 13, 2017
Not a great stay Plus side: Room looked nice. Had keurigs with a good selection of coffee & tea. Liked that they had patios. Staff was nice. Negative side: Run down buildings, dirty carpets, first room I was given had ants, the second room they gave me had a weird smell, beds were ROCK hard. Had to pay for a resort fee for just sleeping there (got in late checked out early in the morning) Not worth how much I was charged to stay there.

Routine maintenance required.

Other than the rain, once the maintenance was done everything was satisfactory.

Charming but not Comsopolitan

Posted Jan 2, 2017 on Hotels
The Hotel is nice and somewhat clean but secluded in maze of dark rural roads. One must be extra careful driving at night. The entrance/Exit road has a deep indentation at the turning intersection so enter & exit the estate slowly and with caution and patience. The Entrance to the hotel is also serves as the residential retirement housing- of a completely different name- so it is easy to miss the right turnoff. The Staff are very accommodating, kind and respectful. However, The guests that are 'members' of the resort can be militaristically rude, as there are multiple navy bases in the area, therefore old-fashioned and even "rednecked" people of all races inhabit this rural resort, and they are hostile to differing orientations and ethnicity as well as intrusive to new guests who are minorities but some other members can be more friendly if you play golf or tennis. It has an updated, quiet, open, pastel-colored, twentieth century gentlemen's club atmosphere that can feel exclusionary at first. However, once you learn to ignore ignorance of members and can find your way around the resort alone, no one will go out of their way to annoy you; just look like you belong as much as possible.

My husband & I have stayed here often when in the Del Mar, CA area. It is convenient & quiet with lovely grounds.
