Historical hotel in Rancho Santa Fe

Posted Feb 6, 2017
Pros: It is in a beautiful area not far from Solana Beach and Del Mar.
Cons: Attention to detail. Full length mirrors in the rooms; a bit more quiet (ask guests and staff to keep voices low in the early mornings)
Location: I stayed here because Rancho Valencia was too costly, but next time will take the splurge.
This is actually my second time at the Hotel, really did not think I would go back, but had an event at the Rancho Valencia, and this was a better price. While I understand this is a historical hotel, it has some noticeable gaps, as in no Full Length Mirror in the rooms. Also, housekeeping made the bed, but did not wipe down the small glass dining table in the room. It also gets a lot of families, and they seem to allow their children to run the grounds and be very loud. So this is not a place for a relaxing time, just a place to stay. Same thing for the staff, even before 8:00am on a weekend, if they are starting their work, they speak loudly and often, and the rooms are not soundproofed. (again, historical). So, not a place for a sleep late type of visit.

Dear Deborah, Thank you for your recent visit and your comments. Unfortunately, I am not able to see what room you were in as the majority of our rooms do have full length mirrors. I have addressed your comments about the loudness of our staff with our HK Manager and I apologize for the noise. While we do not get a lot of families staying at the Inn, we are the center piece of the community and some parents bring their children for dinner. We do our utmost to keep them confined to the front lawn area and certainly do not allow them to run around over the entire property. Best regards, Jerome

We had a one bedroom king cottage. Very quiet and spacious near the back of the property. Breakfast was outstanding with options for both gluten free and vegan diners. Very accommodating to a 2 year old's taste with suggestions a la carte (fruit, noodles with just butter). Front desk very friendly and helpful. Rancho Sante Fe a charming town with several dining options, though we didn't stay long enough to try them.

The standards have dropped

Posted Jan 24, 2017
Pros: The receptionist was very nice.
Cons: Don't have the restaurant manager sniffing my wine glass with his nose, sticking his nose in my wine glass, then sending it out as though it is clean.
Location: Stay at a nice 4 star or better hotel at the beach, the drive is probably worth it for better privacy and service.
I have come to this hotel many times before both on business and with my family. My last trip was not worth repeating. I was given a room with a party door, I could hear the neighbor walk in, set luggage down, talk to his family. There was way too much noise transfer between rooms through the two party doors! I wanted my own room and not share it with strangers. I felt guilty listening to the news as I knew they would be forced to hear my program. The second more substantial bad experience was ordering a nice glass of wine with dinner in the restaurant. I watched the restaurant manager pour a partial taste in a glass, (he did not know I was watching), smell it, put his nose in it, swirl it, smell it again with full nose, then pour it full and had his waitress send it to my table. I complained that I didn't want to share my glass with him, he apologized, but also said that is normal for him. I said normally you would pour your own taste if you were worried about it being corked. I have designed tasting rooms, we wine taste all the time, that is the first time I have had someone think sharing a glass is OK at $25/pour. This hotel is not a 4 star, it is pretending. I own a commercial architect firm, we do hotel design, I am familiar with both restaurant and resort design, I was extremely disappointed as I love this historic site. I will not stay there again and my sister lives a mile away, we will stay somewhere that has properly trained staff and private rooms.

Dear Robert, Thank you for your recent stay and bring your recent experience to my attention. I apologize for the noise between rooms. We recently installed custom sound proofing on the majority of the connecting doors and unfortunately the room you were in had not been attended to as of yet. I am extremely disappointed about your experience with our Somelier and agree that he should have used a different glass to make sure the wine you selected was still up to par. This has been addressed with him and new procedures have been put in place to avoid such an embarrsing situation in the future. I do hope you will give us another chance on a future trip and I would be happy to personally oversee your reservation to ensure you are placed in a satisfactory room. Again, please accept my apologies. Warm regards, Jerome Strack General Manager

Nice cozy hotel, beautiful scenery, amazing staff

Posted Jan 23, 2017
Pros: Friendly, cozy, clean, comfortable, excellent location
Cons: The room heaters/conditioners are very noisy.
Location: Solana beach is close. There are wineries in the area. San Diego, La Jolla are not far.
This a wonderful hotel. It is situated in a upscale neighborhood, close to the beach. The room was very homey. The only complaint is the very noisy wall-mounted heater/conditioner. The bathroom was clean and remodeled. The bed was very comfortable. Our room had a large porch covered with vines. The food at the restaurant was very good and relatively inexpensive if compared with nearby restaurants. It has a very ambient atmosphere. The staff was extremely helpful, friendly and polite. Spa is very good.

My first visit to the Inn at Rancho Santa Fe was fabulous. It's a beautiful, warm and friendly place to spend the holidays. The rooms are absolutely charming and the staff was so accommodating. Such a peaceful setting with lots of beautiful surroundings for long walks and relaxing days.

pretty grounds not impressed with room

Posted Dec 5, 2016
We heard great things about this hotel. But the room they gave us was really not very good. I was very disappointed. When you looked out the balcony there was trash and trash bins. The room smelled so much like smoke it gave me a headache. Very standard. And the food was not my favorite. The staff was great and the grounds are very pretty. But I wouldn't go back.

Dear Jules, I am sorry to read you did not like your room. The inconvenience you experience has been addressed with our Housekeeping team; please accept my apologies for this as usually that particular room has a lovely view over the canyon. Many of our rooms have wood burning fire places which adds to the ambience and I am sorry to hear it gave you a headache. I would hope you give us another try in the future. Thank you for your visit and your comments. Best regards Jerome

Delightful to work with, disponible to help.

Pros: Great place to relax alone or with company.
Cons: Not enough lighting to look in the mirror as I did my make-up. Maybe is just me.
Location: Beautiful trails, little streets to leisurely walk around.
I love it! My room was speciouos, it had an enclosed patio. I had all the amenities. The gardens are gorgeous and pool great for laps.

Relaxing resort hotel

Posted Sep 30, 2016
This is a great place to stay to relax. The rooms are very nice, the restaurant and bars are great - with excellent service. The spa is outstanding. The only weak point is housekeeping - their attention to important details is uneven. Otherwise, the Inn is a great value for a very nice place in the wonderful town of Rancho Santa Fe!
