Was a good hotel, once...

Posted Jan 11, 2018
Pros: It was fine for business use - it had plenty of space, and power sockets etc.
Cons: Many things - most of the hotel is in need of refurbishment and the one staff member I met seemed to do everything.
Location: While close to the stadium on a map, it was a long and slow drive in to Reading in the morning.
It took me a while to find the hotel, as the sign was not illuminated and I must confess I didn't believe my sat nav. Only found it once I'd gone miles out of my way and then found it much better signed from the other direction. When I arrived, the car park was very dark and there were hardly any external lights. I waited at reception for quite some time before venturing to the restaurant to find someone. A very efficient and friendly chap, who was most apologetic, said he'd be with me soon. To his credit, he checked me in very efficiently, and also took my order for room service there and then, which he also delivered a very short while later. The room itself was spacious and comfortable, although there was quite a bit of noise from the nearby railway line across the other side of the lake. Dinner was very nice though. Overall, the hotel is now a bit tired and in need of a thorough refurbishment, and they could probably do with a few more staff!

OK for the price, bit more remote than I expected

Posted Dec 20, 2017
Cons: Modern door locks.
Location: Out of the way. I did manage to walk to the Madjeski in 19 minutes. The area is fairly green and pleasant in spite of the office buildings.
I was planning to walk from this hotel to the Madjeski for an event but someone has started building a housing estate and school on the road I was going to walk down. I managed to find an alternate route later and the following morning, which only added but the road isn't really suitable for pedestrians so book yourself a taxi. Apparently takes 15 minutes or so to get one over from Reading. Building was tired but very quiet given how close it is to the M4. Didn't really use any facilities. Room was confortable, carpet a bit old. And the door lock seemed pretty flimsy. Window lock was also not working at the bottom of the door, but top was fine so had someone really wanted to get in, I suspect they could have done although the balcony backed onto water so I wasn't overly concerned. Shower was reluctant to provide hot water but bath worked fine.

Honest opinion to your questions

Posted Nov 20, 2017
Pros: clean room
Cons: The bathroom was very dated
Location: Reading is very close by easy to get to town
I do not think that this Hotel is worth £90 a night. The room was very clean and comfortable, and the breakfast was very nice, however the Dining area, was quite cold for a November morning. The Waitresses were very friendly but I must say that the Gentleman at Reception could have been a lot friendlier and lacked the warmth and courtesy that a guest would expect. The Hotel is ok, but I think it has seen better days and really needs a refurb at some point. The metal casing on the Hot water Tap was loose, this is not a four star hotel and the prices should reflect this. Overall it was ok but not a special experience by any stretch of the imagination

Unfortunately we could not find the hotel in the dark as there are no street lights or lighted entrance. The rooms were spacious clean and warm. The door handle to the balcony came off in my hand and the same door did not lock securely. Moved to a much better room. View in morning was brilliant. In fortunately one section of the hotel was derielict. Having been damaged by fire some two years ago. No sign of restitution. Overall the Hotel looked unloved. And need some serious TCL. The hotel looked to have been a winner at some time with a gym banqueting and conference rooms. Even advertised for weddings? Not to.many people staying as car park was virtually empty. A car is needed as it is a long way round the lanes from M4 junction 11. But the lake runs along the motorway. staff were helpful but spare.

Needs an immediate and raning overhaul

Just a stopover for an event the next day. Wouldn't go back due to the dated decor and sparse dirty rooms.

Has potential to be really nice but needs some TLC. Quite pricey especially breakfast for what you get.
