"the place is restored 1931 house. a lot of care went into getting it fixed to the original "Japanese era" style. It's pretty much the same as the pictures. However, at the check in, we ran into a major snags. The listing shows 2 rooms/2 baths, but the proprietor only gave me ONE room of the 2 room listing, because he assumed all 4 of us could fit into a tiny room. That wasn't acceptable to us. We argued, and since the other room wasn't "rented" out, he gave in, and offered us access to...

"Beautiful property just minutes from Taichung Railway station. Room was well furnished and staff were welcoming. They have a free laundry room for guests which is really handy. Right across from Miyahara for all your ice-cream and dessert needs. Plenty of food options within a walking distance."

"We stayed in two sections of our trip. 2N from 13-15 Nov and back again 16-20 Nov. Hotel is walkable from TaiChung station (12min) once you know how. Near to some convenience stores and a great old skool bakery next door. A nice popular Cafe is few units down. Great bus stop options around too. Cleanliness is v good. Strong shower pressure and instant hot water. Nice shampoo and body wash. Some Cons were on our first room in first section, Bidet didn’t warm seat. Air com can get quite cold "

"This is easily the most beautiful hotel that I have personally stayed in in Taiwan. The art deco aesthetic is well-conceived and executed throughout the property. I am deeply impressed by its beauty, and staying here is an experience. Our room was also quite large, larger than some of the other two-bed rooms I saw during our stay. Beautifully appointed and very comfortable. We stayed in room 802, and would request this room again if we were to stay there. The issue is, once you've experienced actual 5 star service, service that is very close but not quite there sticks out like a sore thumb. The service was very good, but overly stiff. I was drinking a glass of water in the lobby from the provided glasses and dispenser. I was stopped on the way to the elevator because you're not allowed to bring the glass of water from the lobby to the room... It was a strange, uncomfortable moment that could've been easily avoided. There were a couple of other small moments like this that were just... a little bewildering? Where other 5 star hotels would've found a solution to these issues (or had them prepared), it seems like the staff were trained to be rules-focused, rather than comfort-focused. It's absolutely a training problem. The other issue is that, well, it's Taiwan. A 15 minute walk with luggage from the closest train station is an adventure, and the immediate neighborhood is a bit boring. Overall, gorgeous, great hotel. A little awkward service and location."
