Location: I recommend a trip to the nearby Minoan cemetery (cheaper and less commercialised than Knossos), some of the gorge walks, and Preveli beach.
We had a fantastic stay at Aloni. The villa was peaceful, clean, and spacious. The location was great with incredible views of snow-topped mountains, the coastline and goats, sheep and chickens nearby. George and his wife were very welcoming and friendly.

Very pleasant house, go in the summer though!

We had a nice visit to Aloni Villas in April, at the start of the season. First, the villa itself was very nice - new and maintained well. Each villa has a private pool and has pretty much everything you need. George is very pleasant and works hard to make it a nice stay. We visited in April, which was disadvantageous for a few reasons: 1. It was a little chilly. The heat pump units in the villas just aren't up to heating the place if it's cold. In the summer this shouldn't be an issue. 2. The restaurant wasn't open for most of our stay. This is a problem because the food options in the town of Roussospiti are very limited. We found ourselves driving to Rethymnon, which is 15-20 minutes depending on where you are going. Overall, we had a nice time. But if I were to go again, it would definitely be later in the season, for the weather and for the availability of dining options. Finally, wi-fi connectivity is poor and hopefully they can improve this.
