Apartments 5 mins walk from center

Posted May 27, 2016
Pros: Good value for money. Quiet, convenient location.
Cons: Maybe a few more kitchen utensils.
Location: Near center (in west end of town), most things/places are walk-able, stores and restaurant nearby.
We enjoyed our stay at 32 Tungata. The apartments are quite adequate for people who don't expect service 24/7 and can manage to take care of themselves. The kitchen has what you need for making breakfast and light meals. The location is good: close to center (west end of town), quiet, attractive neighborhood (many embassies). The landlord, who lives off-site, dealt with our e-mail request for some extra pillows very quickly. There are food stores and restaurants within 5 mins walk. Museums and other attractions are 5-15 mins away walking. Iceland is a well-functioning modern society (wi-fi everywhere, credit cards seem to be the preferred mode of payment, except for city buses), but it is not called Iceland for nothing. Bring warm clothing (layers), wet-weather gear and good walking shoes. The hot water (and the heating) for all of Iceland comes from underground hot springs and has a slightly mineral smell - people recommend not drinking from the hot water tap, but the cold water is pure and tasty.

Perfect family bolthole in Reykjavik!

Posted May 27, 2016
Pros: Space for price!
Cons: Slightly more diligent cleaning--mopping the hallway properly, refreshing the fridge (it needed deodorizing), maybe a dish rack, and extra pillows!
Reykjavik is expensive. There is no getting around it. It is also super interesting and beautiful, as is Iceland overall. But hotel prices can make you blanch, and that's before you get to the cost of everything else. We were delighted to find 32, Tungata, which is essentially a two-bedroom apartment in the lower level of a house on "Embassy Row". It is easy walking distance to everything in the centre of Reykjavik, and is basic, clean and comfortable. It is an older home, so don't expect brand new tiling and fancy paint colours. But if you want comfy beds with cushy duvets and a serviceable eat-in kitchen for a family of four, you can't go wrong. The hosts are very helpful, and every question was answered with speed and due diligence. As the author of a book on traveling with babies and toddlers, I've learned how to spot winners, and this was one for us.

Comfortable, Clean and Close to town

Posted Oct 11, 2015
This is a very comfortable, clean and quiet area in Reykavik. Many of the tour buses were able to pick us up right outside our door, even though it was not right down town. It is very quiet, especially on weekends when the bar scene goes on until the early hours. The double bed is very generous. Already recommended this to a friend.

Lovely apartment handy for down town & old harbour

Posted Sep 16, 2015
Lovely apartment, all the facilities we needed, very handy location for down town and for the old harbour. Very well priced for the location, and cooking facilities helped with our food budget.

Pros: Great location
Cons: Real Pillows and clock would have been nice. Some ground coffee would have been appreciated. Tell clients that the electrical system is not US
Location: Great shopping. Great restaurants within walking distance. Harbor and sight seeing places close by too.
Never saw owner which would have been ok except our bags were lost and we had no way to contact airport.

Quiet and convenient

Posted Aug 17, 2015 on Hotels
We stayed here for a few days before joining a group tour. The room was quiet, clean, and comfortable, and the location was very convenient. The kitchen lacked some equipment (soup bowls, egg flipper...) but all in all we were happy with our stay.
