When walking along Richmond's Flood Wall in Manchester, you can leave the path and head toward the river. I did just that on a snowy day to get this photo. These ruins are part of the old Richmond and Peterburg Railroad Bridge, of which only the pillars remain. What's really cool is that you're actually permitted to climb them, and the tallest even has climbing hooks installed! #snow #architecture #bestof5 On a recent snow day, I took a walk along the Flood Wall, and found myself under the Manchester Bridge that spans the James River in Richmond. This bridge was built to replace the old Ninth Street Bridge, which was susceptible to flood damage (you can see the ruins of this bridge in the left side of the photo if you look close enough). #architecture Maymont mansion is a 19th century estate frozen in time! It takes you back to that era with its gilded age mansion, gardens and acres of land. You get an insight into the extravagant life of the rich aristocrat family as well as the servants who worked on their estates. It is a wonderful place to take in the beauty of nature and essence of history! An old iron building full of history and is now turned into museum it's a perfect place for photos and to get a lot of history of Richmond, really a lot of fun a lot more fun than I thought. The museum is free. This War Memorial Carillon can be seen from all over Richmond, but it towers over Dogwood Dell in Byrd Park. Built in 1928, today it features 53 bells, and plays concerts on veteran-related holidays. I hope to go to the top someday! #architecture Beautiful mirror ref off of the calm waters of the James River. Taken with my iPhone 6S+
#LoveMyTown The back part of the historic building. You can see all age with the bricks and when they were replaced over the years. Richmond got hit pretty badly during the civil war. #weekendgetaway The Manchester climbing wall park is one of my new favorite spots in Richmond, VA. To get here, find the Flood Wall Walk near Legend Brewing Co and follow the path! When you get the the climbing wall, head towards the river. Japanese Garden lake at Maymont in Richmond, VA. Travel back in time to the Victorian era! 19th century estate that seems untouched by time. The moody tone set by the skies that day, gigantic tree branches, and the empty manor made me feel like I am a part of a gothic horror classic or a detective in a mystery series 😉 Richmond, VA, USA Canal Walk
There are many interesting sites on the Richmond Canal walk. This is a part of an old mill. Richmond's Canal Walk meanders 1.25 miles through downtown Richmond along the banks of the Haxall Canal and the James River & Kanawha Canal. Open 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, the Canal Walk (Brown's Island itself is open sunrise to sunset except in the case of a special event) may be accessed on 5th, 7th, Virginia, 14th, 15th, and 17th Streets. The Canal Walk presents four centuries of Richmond’s history interpreted through medallions, monuments and exhibits along the Canal Walk and Brown’s Island. Visit their website to see listings of special events. Richmond can be a #winterwonder when the James River gets icy!

After a rare #snow in Richmond, Byrd Park looked quite a bit different than usual! I love #hiking in the mountains, but sometimes urban hikes can be just as cool! Here's the eastern tip of Belle Isle in Richmond, Va. Amazing Japanese gardens in what used to be someone's actual backyard. Mansion is definitely the right word for this property. First summer day 80 degrees! The Virginia State Capitol is the seat of state government of the Commonwealth of Virginia, located in Richmond, the third capital city of the U.S. state of Virginia. It houses the oldest elected legislative body in North America, the Virginia General Assembly, first established as the House of Burgesses in 1619. Great shop with very good coffee right on the middle of downtown Richmond they also have really good food as well as a local selection if wines. Awesome start to the day. Libby Hill Park is one of the best places to watch the sunset in Richmond! A two fer kinda day. After a great latte at the Urban Farmhouse in the morning I stopped with a group to test out the Sugar Shack Donut Shop (called one of the top 20 donut shops in the U.S.). Well definitely understand the excitement about the donuts but the latte was excellent too. Yep another worthwhile stop. Enjoy River gazing In the heart of Richmond is a great coffee house and restaurant. The Urban Farmhouse has great breakfasts and very good espresso drinks (the large latte comes with 4 shots as it should). Wifi and plenty of tables to get comfortable with big windows providing a nice view of old Richmond. It's right across the street from La Grotta Ristorante a good Italian restaurant for later in the night. A definite stop when in Richmond Va. Rock....climbing The sculpture in front of the Anderson Gallery tells the history of VCU in the context of World history. Great art
