Well situated for access to the main shopping area. Nice clean and quiet hotel. Staff were very friendly and assisted in all our requirements.

Basic but would stay again
Ok for the price. Edmílson was a very good receptionist. Could hear some street noise from the 15th floor. AC was also noisy. Small TV. Big room. Nice shower. Breakfast was basic but nice. Good higiene due to the pandemic. I would stay there again.

My visit
Check in it was very ease, specially the counter person Vivian, she went way beyond to make me welcome. Very friendly and always with a smile... the staff in general were nice, also the place very clean and spacious. I will definitely be back.

I expected better
Hotel is overrated as "outstanding." Aside from some needed construction to upgrade the WiFi which we can overlook, the details were underwhelming. Room was good and service good enough, but bathroom was tiny, breakfast sausages were actually hotdogs, there was no a/c in the hallways, TV was tiny, channels had horrible reception, pool was between a daycare with screaming kids and the street with people peering in, etc. I expected better. "Good" at best.

Really very poor and very slow Wi-Fi combined with very slow to come warm water for the shower and very tiny shower cubicle with very awkward access, not to mention slow elevators, of which one was broken leaving just one working for 15 floors. This all means that I won't come back. I'll stick to their other hotel, The Promenade Paradiso.

A week at the Promenade Barra First Hotel
There are several things I did not like about the hotel: 1. The internet in the room was extremely slow - nearly impossible to communicate with friends or relatives over Skype or FaceTime Voice or WhatsApp voice (forget about video chat). 2. There was no iron and ironing board in the room. 3. The swimming pool was not nice at all - it was quite small and the water was dirty. It was also impossible to get lounge chairs because there were so few. 4. The breakfast was not great.

Overall this hotel was very good. If you're looking to just be secluded or hit up the beaches in Barra de Tijuca, however not too much around. And wifi in the hotel is pretty spotty. Depending on your room location the wifi went in and out for a majority of our stay.

An excellent hotel.
This is an excellent hotel for its price range. Very comfortable and the staff was always helpful. We stayed for seven nights and our room was always made up quickly and well first thing in the morning. The only drawback is that it is fairly far from most of the main attractions of Rio.

not close to the convention center
i guess the only reason to stay here is to be close to the convention center ? but its not as close as i thought , nothing is and if you stay at the convention center this nothing else around there to do. i recommend staying father away near barra grill , look like a much more walking around area and the extra time and taxi fare will be worth having places you can walk to

Not fancy, but a solid hotel.
I stayed for 7 days on business. It worked out well for that. Breakfast was very good, much better than anything you see in the US. The staff didn't speak much English but that is to be expected. Their limited English and my limited Portuguese worked out ok. The room was nice other than a small issue with flies in the bathroom a few days into my stay. It is too far from Copacabana if you wan to do touristy things, about 30 minutes by cab with little traffic. Otherwise there are plenty of malls and different restaurants to try. A trip to the local beach is only a few minutes and not as busy as Copa. If I am back in Barra, there is a good chance I will stay here.

In a personal emergency , I had to book a hotel, expedia rating was reasonable, all that is was promised was delivered, it was a good solution for a couple of days, is out of te way of Rio Beaches but you can easily access them in a car or taxi

NICE HOTEL. NOT PERFECT BUT NICE.
I came to attend the CILAD (Ibero Latin American Dermatology Congress. I arrive one day earlier, on Friday, 11/14/14, but the event started 11/15/14. Since that day was a holiday in Brazil, all banks and exchange places were closed. So, I tried to change dollars at the hotel and they had no money. I am a well traveled person and NEVER had I experienced a situation like this. There I was, with no Brazilian money and the hotel was not helping. Friday, they said, at 4PM, will change, but when I went, they said, at 6 PM. Unfortunately, I had to leave before to attend the opening ceremony so when I returned, the same story, "we have no money, come tomorrow at 7 AM and we will change it". They did it but in the meantime I was borrowing from colleagues. Having such a big event, the hotel and a holiday coming, it was lack of vision of the hotel, not to have money available for the exchange. I hope this situation is corrected and no other traveler suffer this inconvenience. Breakfast was plenty and delicious, transportation easy, the personnel was very compliant and nice to talk to. Neighborhood is great and the Barra Shopping Center was easy to access by bus.

WI-FI is Terrible
Checked in and they were very nice. Did everything to make me comfortable. The view from the room was good, I don't really care about the Ocean anyway. The room is very nice, the food is OK but there are so many good places to eat close by that make up for the food in the hotel. Do not even think you will get anything done via the net. The Internet is just downright slow. I called the front desk but the person used the response No English. I even tried at 2 AM and it was better but not good enough to do real work.

Since it is right in front of Av. das Americas, traffic noise can be particularly loud during the day and eventually by night. Location is OK to get to Barra sites but driving towards Copacabana and Downtown can take about 1.5 hours.

Both the Expedia website and the Promenade website present the picture of a high end, first class hotel. Unfortunately, the Promenade Barra First was a bit of a disappointment. Primarily, the building and the rooms just haven't been maintained all that well. It's fine as generic business hotels go - definitely not a "dive" by any means. You just need to go in with the right expectations.

Good hotel. On the specific date I was there, only one elevator was working which made waiting times long. Great location, room was great!!! Great gym!!! However, since it is in Rio, it was way overpriced like everything else in this violent city.

comfortable hotel if you are there for shopping
comfy hotel clean good air-con nice wood features, not fussy clean some English TV stations, very good breakfast, super fruit selection, needed more meat and cheese and boiled eggs, but otherwise good where the staff were more friendly and helpful in general. the lazy river pool is a plus, especially for kids and a big gym. minuses, miles from anywhere, complicated to get to by bus long journey into town on any day. The hotel is on a very busy noisy road you have to be tough resisting noise here! After 3 days I learnt my way and found paradise.
