They made my brother pay for his last day at the resort just until they found the reservation thru expedia so they found ithat and I called them but still they didn't return their money and most of us had diarrhea the whole time we where there seriously not happy with them.

Great Little Getaway

Pros: Big property! Pool was beautiful and so was the beach. Lots of water activities such as kayaks, wind-surfing, and wind sailing. Friendly staff!
Cons: The air conditioner in my room was very loud, almost too loud! The food was not the best; meat and fish cooked too much for my liking.
Location: Didn't leave the resort but Xel-Ha is supposed to be very close outside the resort.
We booked a 5 day stay at this hotel about 3 weeks prior the actual trip. Once we arrived in the hotel (around 1 pm) the room was ready at 3. They took our luggage and we went for lunch. Food was okay, cooked for the masses. Most of the meat or fish was overcooked for my taste and everything else was over salted for my taste. Wait staff was amazing and attentive. For breakfast we have fresh fruit smoothies every morning and delicious freshly made to order omelets as well as the freshest fruit I have ever tried. Bar staff was friendly and never had to wait for a drink regardless of the bar we went to. Entertainment staff went out of their way to learn our names and get us moving for various activities. Shows at night were okay, what I would expect from a Mexican Resort, it's not Broadway. We went to two specialty restaurants. The Spanish one (La Fuente) which I could have done without. My fiance got the sea bass which he rather enjoyed and I ordered the traditional paella which did not taste like any paella I have ever had before. We also went to the steak house (Santa Fe) and we had a much better experience. My fiance ordered the kebabs and I ordered the rack of lamb. Both were cooked perfectly to our liking! The pools were beautiful. There was never a problem getting a lounge chair either by the pool or the beach. The beach was beautiful but the sand was only about an inch thick and underneath it was a layer of rocks. So be careful when you play volleyball.

Vacation at Barcelo

Pros: Just about everything
Cons: The food and waiting staff at the specialty restaurants
I could go back to this place over and over again. Great beach, service, great room. Could not ask for more.

Beautiful Hotel with an actual beach!

Pros: Great place to relax, lots of things to do , helpful staff, staff led activities, THE SPA was amazing!
Cons: The food at the restaurants could have been executed better.
Location: the location is awesome, its one of the few resorts that actually has a beach and there are HUNDREDS of chair so need to rush every morning to reserve
Overall, our experience was positive. The resort grounds, pools, and beach are all kept up to great standards. The staff were pleasant and enthusiastic to help with any issues or concerns. Our only issue was that the restaurants could be better, now don't get me wrong, everything was palatable but execution on some dishes could have been better. The beach was huge and there were hundreds of chairs so no need to reserve spots.

Beautiful resort

The resort is stunning, immaculately clean, all activities are right there-snorkeling, fly board, jet skis-paddle board, parasailing, Dolphins, all of it right at the resort with in a short walk. There is a small mall, bowling alley, vendors. Spa is amazing. Book on the beach with one of the staff going around drumming up business-its cheaper! Pools are huge and stunning. Fridge in the room. Room was great, staff nice. Bed comfortable. Linens clean. The beach is gorgeous, plenty of room. Plenty of chairs. Beware of booking on Expedia, I entered one traveler, since it wasn't a per person rate I didn't think it would matter-it was per room. Wrong. We were charged $500 extra when we got there for the other person. Expedia problem, not Barcelo. Food was plentiful but very very average. Otherwise we had a great vacation! Weather was perfect!

Beach Resort

Good- strong drinks if tipped well, the spa is excellent, clean room, and a nice pool. Bad-buffet and dinner food horrible. Need ground transportation/tons of walking around the large resort.

Nice resort. Terrible Check-in

Check-in took almost an hour with nobody else in front of us. I booked Tropical based on the review but they put us in Caribe and when I asked the reason, I get straight lie on my face. "Because of spring break it's going to be loud that's why we put you in Caribe". That was wrong because spring break was over (we went April 15th). When I asked another person on front desk, his reply was, "We move select group of people". What is the point of showing 3 different properties/links while booking if you don't even know which one will you be put in. Anyways, based on my experience, I would rate (Not including Palace because you pay extra for that) 1. Colonial 2. Tropical 3. Caribe and Beach Food in Caribe buffet is better than everywhere else. (Open Tequila bar) Speciality restaurant review Italian, Mexican, Capri, Lindo Espanol - All these serve terrible food. Buffets are thousand times better than these. Kyoto (Japanese in Colonial) - Has awesome food. Pools and Property is great. Rating based on different categories Check-in - 0 star (or even negative) Property - 5 star Pool - 5 star Shows - 4 star Buffets - 4-5 star Speciality restaurant (not including Japnese) - 0 star (even negative) Drinks - 3 star Staff (except front desk) - 5 star Room comfort - 0 star (small, horrible beds, feels like you are sleeping on springs) Room cleanliness - 5 star
