Would definitely go again

Posted Aug 30, 2015
Pros: I loved the beach and the pools with the bars.
Cons: The buffet food could be a little better. I got tired of the same dishes and didn't like a lot of the options.
Location: the location was great, there are a million things to do nearby and you can get hooked up through their tour guides.
Our stay was great. We did upgraded to "privileged" in order to get the voucher for the tapas restaurant. It was worth it for the extra tv channels and room as well. The pools were nice, bars were great, and ocean was beautiful. The beach was pretty rocky but we didn't mind. The food was just "ok" at the buffets, but the a la carte restaurants were great. Everywhere you looked, there was someone cleaning, stocking, preparing, gardening, etc...they were really on top of things and really strove to provide great service.

If only the food was as great as the service....

Posted Aug 29, 2015
Pros: The hard work ethic of the staff and their equal treatment to all patrons. I noticed that every single staff member gave the same great service to all
Cons: The FOOD! The breakfast selections are decent, but the lunch/dinner buffets are very fair. The a la carte restaurants as well lacked flavor.
Location: Puerto Aventuras is in the perfect location for those that want to venture to Playa del Carmen in one direction or Tulum in the opposite direction.
Our experience at Catalonia Riviera Maya was incredible. We really felt catered for by the staff. They really went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable with our stay. The service was the best we have ever had. A special thank you to Lorena in the restaurant Alebrijes and to the bar staff at the pool bar, Nazario and Valerio. We were completely made to feel that we were the only patrons on the property when they were providing service. The food on the other hand left a lot to be desired. We travel very often and we have stayed at many other all-inclusive resorts and definitely have to say that the food was not the best. The service definitely made it for their shortcomings with the food. We had the "privileged" band and it definitely made a difference. We had access to a very nice lounging area by the beach and had beach side drink service in this area, we also were able to have meals in an enclosed buffet area that had air-conditioning and that was not as crowded. The "privileged" status also gave us premium alcohols to choose from. We did not discover these perks until very late into our 2nd day. It would have been appreciated if someone would have walked us through the property to show us the perks instead of just pointing to them on a map. The live band at night time was excellent and had the crowd dancing the whole time. After driving off the property into Playa del Carmen and Tulum to visit the beaches we realized that the beach at the hotel was quite the bonus.

Well kept, small, intimate resort with great staff

Posted Aug 25, 2015
Pros: Loved the staff and how friendly they were! The entertainment group always kept you smiling and thanks to Valerio, Jose, and Ulysses for great drinks!
Cons: Beach was a disappointment. There was tons of seaweed and only small location of where you could actually go in the water.
Location: Explained above.
Arrived to the beautiful resort but sadly had to wait for a while to check in and no welcome cocktail. Otherwise, the resort is very well kept up and has very friendly staff that ensure you are always feeling good. The entertainment group is amazing and there are always activities going on. The restaurants were nice and had great food to choose from, however wish there were different choices each day at the buffet for more of a variety. Overall food and drinks were great though! Had a romantic dinner on the beach and it was excellent! Thanks to Aldair our server and the manager of the Bolero restaurant for a great experience! Also, did a spa treatment which is a must do here!! Their spa center is wonderful!! Thanks to Eva for setting up everything from the romantic dinner to the spa day! Room was clean and had all the necessities. And the final great thing about this hotel is its location inside Puerto Aventuras which is an upper class small gated communities with harbors and a golf course and dolphin adventure all inside. You can rent bikes for free to check it out. Don't forget to look for the monkeys!

Beautiful in its own way

Posted Aug 25, 2015
Pros: Very nice staff, they work very hard. Easy access to excursions and easy to find a place to sit and relax. Not a huge resort but that is okay with me.
Cons: Keep the ants out of the rooms.
Location: Plenty of stuff to do, you can snorkel, rent jet-skis, para-sail, kayak, etc. Most of the excursion destinations are fairly close, within 30 minutes.
This hotel is very nice, restaurants are excellent and the spa staff are great. The staff of the resort itself are also very nice and they work hard. When we booked this resort we booked a king size bed, they tried to give us two double beds but when we went back to the front desk they made the adjustment. They have a Mexican market every other night, that is pretty cool, and there shows are interesting to say the least. The only thing I would point out is the beach areas, they are a bit rocky and not very large. There is a lagoon side which has does not have a problem with rocks but it is also a top optional section.

Very memorable experience

Posted Aug 25, 2015
Pros: The staff, food and over all accommodation.
Cons: Right now, everything is just excellent.
Location: We had the Xenotes and Chichen Itza tours. Both were awaesome.
We had an amazing stay at the hotel. The staff was awesome, food was very good and the view was breath taking. The only thing we noticed was the abundance of sea weeds. Hotel staff was trying to do their best to clean this up.

Nice hotel

Posted Aug 24, 2015
Pros: Cleanliness
Cons: Staff not harassing vacationers and more activities
Location: To far from shopping and excursions
The resort was beautiful . The main problem was the solicitation of the staff trying to get you to spend over 2 hours of your vacation time to buy a time share. Meanwhile they promise you the world but you waste almost half your day hearing how it will benefit you to buy with them. They would follow us around and try to make side deals so it can benefit them. Not enough shows and activities on the resort, food was good , check in process could be a little quicker like checking out. Not sure if I would book another trip to Mexico!!!!!!

Buffet staff were rude

Posted Aug 24, 2015
My family and I really enjoyed the stay at the colonial resort. Although, we did feel discriminate in times because we do look young and I felt that they do not always attend to us. The resort is beautiful the entertainment staff is awesome the bartenders are great but the staff in the buffet area are rude if they think your young. The one thing that most bothered me was when they would ignore my children when they were order something to drink or anything.

Never again!!!

Posted Aug 24, 2015
Extremely disappointed. 1) Asked for nonsmoking room. Not accommodated. 2) asked for king size bed. Not accommodated. 3) Staff does not speak English. 4) Most restaurants and theater had no air conditioning. 5) Hotel under construction. Could go on and on.
