Beach is the best part of this resort

Posted Feb 5, 2016
Pros: Beach, Beach,Beach
Cons: Shower in the rooms Food choices could be improved
Location: Close to 5 Ave., but is a full 20 min. walk each way. Cozumel ferry
The beach is great : plenty of chairs, bartender service, and no rocks in the water. Resort is small and well kept Rooms could use 1 big change and that would be a shower, please remove tubs and put in a nice walk in shower Don't stay in the 100 block of rooms -- too close to the evening entertainment as is very loud.

Very convenient hotel in Playacar

Posted Jan 31, 2016
I was a little bit worried due to some comments about the hotel I had read trough Tripadvisor in regards to security, staff attention and food. However my experience was good, we had a great time at The Reef Playacar without complaints: The room was appropiate, the buffet restaurant big enough, the staff very kind. The relation price-quality was as I expected.

OK but will not go back

Posted Jan 26, 2016
Pros: Food was good
Cons: Service in the food areas.
Location: Location was good. Like that I could walk to a small shopping plaza and it was near Play 5th ave.
Beach location was great. Food was good but staff wait staff were not attentive!! VERY poor service in all restaurants. As a privileged guest I would have expect more!! Hotel very outdated and has an "old" odor. Mini bar consisted of 4 cans of soda and 2 beers which were NOT replenished on a daily basis. As a privileged guest and able to have top shelf liquor only ONE bar was able to provide top shelf! I don't think my sheets were changed the entire stay. Felt the same sand in my bed each night!!

Not as good as 3 years ago.

Posted Jan 21, 2016
Pros: Nice jungle setting which is kept up very nicely. Beach is nice, pools are clean, drinks are good. Staff always trying to please. Nice snack bar.
Cons: Food wasn't bad; just not as good as the last time. Increase the dinner selection.
Location: Walking distance to Playa. Many attractions available (Xel Ha, Tulum, Coba). Churches/services available.
Having stayed here before, we booked the room; one on an upper floor, with a king bed, 7 months ago. The atmosphere is nice there with a jungle type setting complete with all sorts of animals roaming about. Got stuck on the ground floor with 2 doubles. Trouble with the ground floor is- the whole world walks by constantly and the curtains must be closed for any privacy. Ground floor also has a musty smell which gets in your clothes. We learned this last time here. After complaining we finally got moved. Angel was very helpful with that. Food selection not as great this time for the evening meal as for breakfast and lunch. Hot dogs passed off as sausage & bacon only every other day. Specialty restaurants good. Did the "Time Share" routine for promises of reduced cost excursions. That worked well although we lost almost an entire morning listening to their spiel. Shared service with other Reef location in Coco Beach including a very nice Japanese Sushi restaurant.

Great location and beach!

Posted Jan 19, 2016
Pros: Location, Beach, VIP area for no kids, Italian restaurant
Cons: New mattresses for the beds, teach the cooks for to properly cook a steak to correct temperatures,
Location: Walk to 5th ave, Cenote tour, Xel-Ha, Ex-Caret, Snorkel in Cozumel,
This hotel is in a fantastic location, walking distance to Playa's del Carmen's downtown 5th Ave. You will be canvassed to join a vacations club when you arrive but you can clearly say no and you not be hounded about saying no. We upgraded to the best bracelets, and a bachelor suite room up front to the beach, when we arrived. So we were drinking all top shelf liquors all week which were very well made by the very friendly bar staff notably ROGER and JORGE were awesome. We had a few issues in the Italian restaurants preparation of the Filet steak asked for medium rare one night and medium the next nights as each night it came out blue inside, each time they were happy to toss it back on for a few more minutes to make it more red. After it was cooked more it was very very good wrapped in bacon and topped with blue cheese. The beds in the hotel (we stayed in 2 rooms) were almost solid rocks to sleep on. Our backs were fairly sore all week. Sleeping 9 hours felt like 4 or 5 and a sore back in the morning some improvements here would be greatly appreciated for next time. We will return for sure.

Nice beach, plenty of lounge chairs available

Posted Jan 17, 2016
Pros: Very nice beach and didn't need to get out early to reserve loungers.
Cons: Need more variety of food in buffet area; almost every day, it was the same thing, breakfast, lunch & dinner. Not all bar tenders understood English.
Location: Nice location with great beach. Easy walk into Playa Del Carmen. Not too far from ruins and areas to snorkel.
This is a typical mid-star resort. Very nice beach with some free water activities. Two small pools, one with a swim-up bar. Rooms are in a jungle setting, which is nice, but don't expect any beach views. Always ask for a room on an upper floor as the 1st floor rooms are musty smelling. Food is average with limited variety. There were 8 of us, 4 couples, and 3 of the groups ended up with rooms on the 1st floor, one with a double bed, not a king. Two of the 3 on the 1st floor had the front sliders facing the main walkway, and therefore no privacy; requested a room change to a higher floor, which was accommodated the next day and included king beds in each room. The other 1st floor level was in the back area and was okay, so no change needed. This was our second time at this resort and we'd consider going back again, but will probably try a higher-end resort next time.

Dear Sir/Madam, Thank you very much for writing a review about your stay with us. It makes us really happy to know that you have had a good time at our hotel. Thank you for your positive comments regarding our beach and location. We are sorry to know that we could not meet your expectations regarding the food. We will take your comment in account to keep improving our services. According to the beds they can be requested before arrival. Even though they are run of the house it would be better if you could tell us in advance that you would like to get a king bed and not double beds. Once again thank you for your comments. We wish you happy future travels. Kind Regards, General Manager

Good bang for the buck

Posted Jan 12, 2016
Pros: Great location, easy to navigate grounds, clean beach, clean pools, good food. All around a great experience.
Cons: May be a little understaffed at the bars. Each bar usually only had one bartender and if they ran to get ice, there were huge gaps in service.
Location: Walking distance to Playa del Carmen which was awesome. Can go into town whenever you want quickly without using a cab.
Really unique jungle like feel in the middle of the grounds. Food was great. Buffet had something new every single day and never disappointed. The beach was beautiful and clean. The pools were nice. We actually did not spend much time at the pool swim up bar as it didn't get great sun, the bar usually only had one bartender who was way over tasked and there was always kids splashing around in that pool. We spent most of our time near the lower pool and the premier bar as that was the only bar where you could get premium liquors.

DO NOT Stay here!

Posted Jan 10, 2016
First things first the front desk is a joke, only one person working at a time. When you arrive there's a concierge that sits you down to tell about the hotel and try's to get you to buy excursions and another weeks stay in advanced which is super annoying! Anyone who arrives after a long flight just wants there room key! When we finally got to our room there was already a couple in there and had to switch, the next room was two double beds and we were suppose to get a king but guess what, none available. The room was right on the walk way, the windows and doors were paper thin, you could hear Everything! People walking, talking ,coughing, flip flops up and down the stairs all night. It was dirty too. So we had to switch rooms again, guess what no king beds available, at least this room was cleaner and quieter but my husband forgot my sandals in the other room when we switched so I went to the front desk to see if they hand them but no housekeeping stole my brand new $80 sandals. The food was ok a the buffet, the Mexican restaurant was good, and the Italian restaurant was gross! The lobby bar and the upstairs bar are the best ones to get a good drink at, other then that you get watered down crap. On the plus side the beach and the pools are really nice. The location is really good short walk to downtown and the ferry. This is a great place to stay if you just turned 21.
