You get what you pay forPosted Nov 17, 2015
It was essentially worth what we paid for. We liked the security of Being in a gated community. We may try another resort in the same area next time. This was my second time at the Reef and I didn't enjoy myself as much this time. One of the bartenders was inappropriate and touched my foot while I was sunbathing right in front of my fiancée! After we reprimanded him he was very rude towards us the rest of our stay. Food was decent, pretty repetitive but good location and beautiful beach. Don't upgrade to the premium bracelets, it's not worth it.

Disappointing all inclusive I'd give one star!Posted Nov 16, 2015
Pros: We like Riveria Maya location- nice beach. Friendly bartenders, servers at buffet and other hotel staff. That's it!!
Cons: Rethink the buffet foods - what about Mexican night, Italian night? The rooms should be updated - get rid of that musty, moldy smell. Satellite TV!
Location: 5th ave was a nice trip for dinner away from The Reef. We just wanted to relax in the sun!
We arrived an hour before 3pm check-in time. We were forced to sit with Jesus (concierge) while he bad mouthed our tour co (Best Direct) and tried to insult us into a meeting to sell us vacation club membership "if you don't want $200 in discounts on hotel services, etc. We went to our room - door was open and two workmen were reattaching valances to wall. We waited 30 min for them to finish and then unpacked. We were relaxing before dinner when the door rattled - another couple with luggage and a bellman were trying to check into our room!! We went to dinner and when we returned our key card would not open our door - had to return to front desk for new keys. We read in a comment to ask for Wifi password and lock for safe - they were not offered to us. We paid for premium upgrade - waste of $. The Italian restaurant had little bugs crawling across the tablecloth thru our meal and the Mexican/steak restaurant was mediocre - had to pay extra for steak!! We went to town Restaurant Sur on 5th and 10th for NY Strip Steak, drinks, wine, salad, sides for 2 for $80 - a steal! The resort is poorly lit with concrete steps and no handrails! Had to hold onto my husband when we went to dinner at night. Another guest said "people fall all the time!" Stay at a Riu all inclusive - this resort is dated, rooms smell and the food is the same every day- lots of pasta and pizza on buffet.

Beautiful hotel close to the beachPosted Nov 8, 2015
Beautiful hotel with lots of trees and vegetation. Nice pool with bar. Beautiful hotel beach too, just w too much seaweed, maybe because of the raining week. staff very friendly. Room very clean. Rooms are kind of old, not updated. Bathroom is old and bath tub was clogging. Few times hot water didn't work in shower. Breakfast buffet was good but we didn't like lunch and dinner buffet. They offer two restaurants w better options thou. I didn't have my kid but didn't see many options for kids but pool. Overall 3 stars.

We will be back!Posted Nov 6, 2015
Very friendly staff! Food was repetitive but good. Beds were hard as rocks and we were sore everyday and didn't sleep well. Tub was deformed with a huge lump right where one stood to shower, making it a challenge to shower. Overall we had a great time. Two nice pools. Music was very loud all day, but tolerable.

Great Place for a Relaxing VacationPosted Oct 19, 2015
Pros: The location is perfect. $5 cab ride to Playa del Carmen 5th Avenue. Cenotes on the property are also very nice.
Cons: Everything was great.
Location: The Beach was top quality, very clean. The pool area was also great. I was able to rent a Jet Ski right on the beach and was able to use the kayaks.
This is a great place to come and relax. We were there for 8 days and the staff were very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend getting the Premium Bracelet. We were able to get top shelf drinks (Don Julio, Black Label, Grey Goose, etc.) and were able to eat at their Mexican restaurant at no additional cost(which is absolutely amazing). The service was exceptional, Mario and Julio at the swim-up bar and buffet restaurant were AMAZING! They were very attentive and made sure we were always okay with drinks, snacks, food. All in all, this was an unforgettable vacation.

A disappointing experience will not go back!Posted Oct 19, 2015
Pros: The Michael Jackson tribute show, however only show offered for a six day stay.
Cons: Sanitary conditions, need more bi-lingual staff, need more bars for bad weather conditions, buffet hours of operation , beaches full of seaweed.
Location: Playa Del Carmen, Fifth Ave. Pushy vendors but excellent Mexican foods, prices o.k. Xel-Ha excursion a must!
Don't know where to start. Check in o.k. after a terrible transport by our transport company. Hotel staff friendly despite serious language barrier. Unsatisfied with room choices, chose king and got two doubles. Room on first floor. The room was a nightmare. It smelled of musty and of mold. Sure enough found mold around toilet and sink area, very visible. After first night asked to be moved, hard to sleep, toilet running and smell. Moved to a second floor room in bldg.7. Seemed much nicer, nicer smelling and floor clean unlike first room. Still no king bed. At first no problem but had same issue with running toilet. Up and down all night jiggling handle to stop the running. On excursion next morning and only had one wash cloth. Difficult to get another took hours and finally brought two hand towels. Language barrier problems again. The bar situation made a tough go for rainy conditions. Only two open, pool bar(packed) and lobby bar(small). Drinks were fine with the regular package. One bartender needs to find a different job no knowledge in making drinks at the only bar open when raining(fill in bartender?) No coffee in lobby until after 9am. Snack bar was terrible, tried it twice after leaving the first time again order given to another. Finally got a burger and quite good, taco chips with cheese cold and stale. Buffet some o.k. others poor selection and poor quality, other restaurants good food and menu selections. A 1 star experience. Not
