Hotel staff were amazing. The kids club was great, alaxendra and Lizeth did a great job with keeping the kids engaged with fun activities. I loved their positive attitudes. Servers were wonderful they made you feel at home and hustled. Samuel and Fernando were the best! They always had a smile on their face and ensured we were well taken care of.

Great location for everything you want to do

Cons: Railing should start right from the edge of the pool as even one step without a railing can be a hazard for the elderly.
This was our first time staying at the Occidental. It was most enjoyable. Being off season there were not too many guests which made it even a nicer stay. The bed and pillows were comfortable as was everything else about the room. The entire staff is courteous, helpful and always willing to make your day and stay. The food was very good with a great variety of salads, fish, pork, beef, chicken dishes and one evening lamb was served. Vegetables were cooked to perfection. Wonderful assortment of desserts, breads, juices, waters and cheeses made for great meals. Theme nights were excellent...Mexican Fiesta, Seafood/Fish Extravaganza. The specialty restaurants were a nice diversion too. So even after 10 days there was enough variety to please. The Occidental is across the street from the Paradise Village Mall, from the bus to town with taxis available at the street for excursions. The grounds are manicured and the beach area is very clean and safe for swimming. There were four of us traveling and we all felt that we received great value for the price which we paid. Expedia is the best! Paola, Miguel, Fernando...all the wait staff were exceptional.

Noisy not enough personnel to attend customers

Noisy under construction, not enough restaurant personnel. our dinner took more than an hour to be served at the table, the menu did not offer was it was written in it as per the waiter was missing the right dinners, the buffet always offer the same thing and hot food was mostly dry except for the fruit, the entertainment that was offer was partially there, shows starts at 9:00 pm and we were unable to see any because of the dinning appointment hours and we got out of the restaurant after 10:00 when show was over. some of the drinks at the bar you had to pay for example my brother in law wanted a beer bottle of corona and they only offer what they had or else they could provided that you pay for it. the ocean was mix muddy water because there are two rivers that end at that precise location so it was not inviting at all, most of the time rain so there was nothing to do other than eat whatever and drink whatever they offer only. for the price we could had RIU RESORT which offers a big variety of meals and drinks and the Chef if you want something else they will prepare it for you and pack lunch for you if you are going on a discursion.

We had a fabulous time! The staff was attentive and helpful. The facility was clean and ran smoothly. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking and would stay again, if in the area.

Very friendly hotel staff

Heads off to all the staff for this hotel as anything I would request the answer was never "no", but it was always let me check with my Manager and get back with you. Yuri, host for the massage sessions took an extra mile to assist me on taking care of my baby as I did not have no one to watch her while I was getting my facial and massage done. A couple of things I believe they need improvement is their food at the buffet area is not very tasty and the mattress are very uncomfortable and old.

Our Puerto Vallarta Vacation.

We have stayed at the Occidental in Aruba and loved it, so we though we were safe by choosing Occidental in PV. Upon arrival we were checked in fairly quickly as it was low season and no one was there. ( Hotel was 30% full) which was a huge plus. Our room was nice and comfortable, all though the ocean view we requested was not provided. The food was good but nothing to rave about. Go with the all inclusive Royal Club package ( black bracelet). You get a private pool ( no view), but better food, exclusive restaurant up on the 7th floor and room service. The beach is very dirty and smelly. Water is dark not what we expected for Mexico. We are from Queens and we have some filthy beaches. I would say Coney Island has better water and that's a nasty beach. Close to the river so that's most likely why. We did not go in once and we were there for 10 days. The staff however is wonderful. They were all SO SUPER nice and accommodating. Everyone served us and spoke to us with a smile on their face. However we will Never return to that resort due to the water and pool situation. BTw they closed down the bigger pool for renovations so all we heard all day was a jackhammer. A better bet is to go by Barcelo side where the water is nice and clear and relaxing. We checked out 2 days early and spent the rest of our vacation at the Garza Blanca. A MUST see when you are in PV.

Beautiful beach and clean hotel

Check in went smoothly and was quick . We booked an ocean view room , but upon seeing the room I was displeased that it had no balcony /patio so I went and requested to be moved to a bottom floor room with a patio and they had no issues with granting my request . The main pool went under construction the second day we were there . This was upsetting because I was not aware that this would be happening . They gave us access to the royal pool for the inconvience . But the 2 days of jack hammering was annoying . The buffet was disappointing , food was usually cold and not much variation . Carlos the daytime bartender at the main bar was friendly and very welcoming . Overall it was ok . I have stayed at Barcelo owned resorts before and absolutely love them .

Poor Service

This is my second stay at this resort and I will not be coming back. I didn't such as a broken safe we never repaired, the Wi-Fi connection was absolutely terrible even with a surcharge of 300 pesos, and trying to get service, items brought to the room Took four calls and one complaint until I finally got what I needed. The Buffy was absolutely terrible this year, I eat better in a cafeteria then at this resort. It was impossible to get reservations at any of the other restaurants which further decline to my satisfaction. Also just to warn single adults and couples that this is a very family friendly resort with a lot of children screaming and yelling, if you prefer a more quiet adult atmosphere this is not the place
