Very old and dingy. Decently clean. The room did have a faint dog smell. The faucet in the sink as well as tub both constantly dripped.

Stinky bed
I was staying in a double bed room. Was laying on top of bedspread watching TV. Got tired pull sheets back ugh. Bed stunk, smelled like it has not been cleaned. Horrible. Went to the other bed and that was clean and comfortable was so bad leaving the spread back room started stinky. So I covered it up and it was better

Your most basic, low-cost stay but it was clean and safe and worked for our needs. Breakfast was oatmeal packs and muffins, would've liked at least some water or juice options. Very easy on/off from I81. Only negative was the first night, the halls reaked of pot smoke. 2nd night wasn't bad.

This property is in a very nice location. Since I am from that area I was familiar,but this is clearly a 50.00 a day hotel if that. Due to the fact there were no hotels available in the area and we needed a room on short notice we had no choice,but to stay here. The room was surcharged at 196.00 plus tax. They also had a mandatory 100.00 hold for incidentals. There is nothing of value in that room. It is very dated. Cobwebs in the corner,old lamps and furniture. The tub was dirty,because the drain was slow draining.The covers looked cosmetically nice but were very thin like curtains. The rear door could stand to be windexed there were tons of smears and fingerprints all over it. I did not sleep well. The staff was very nice and friendly though,and the towels and washcloths and bed sheets were clean.Those were the only positives.

The whole place smelled so bad that we could not spend more than 15 minutes in the hotel. There was a small blood droplet stain on the pillow on one of the beds. The pillow case was never washed after the blood got on it. There was a huge stain of some sort on the chair in the room. I tried to make the best of it since it was just for one night to drop off our son but it was impossible. We ended up staying at a different hotel. I felt unsafe. I also thought the car filled with my son's college stuff was unsafe in their parking lot.

Rude manager + very poor service
After checking in and walking up to my room, I found I was placed in a room that has a tremendous odor of wet animals (I do not have animals). The room In general was not great by any means and the bathroom was in very poor condition, but the odor was my issue. I spoke to the shift manager and let him know the odor was unbearable and I would not be able to stay in the room. I was told I would need to pay extra to be moved to another room, because there were no non-smoking rooms of equal price available. I stated that I did nothing wrong and I was not going to pay extra to move to another room. The manager went in a tangent stating he didn’t believe me and I was the reason Roanoke/Salem was so bad. I implored the gentleman to go smell the room for himself if he would not take my word for it. He refused and kept on his tangent. I booked a room at another hotel the same night then attempted to get a refund through hotel.com, but it was denied repeatedly because the manager at this location lied and told them I stayed for an extended period of time. Do not recommend.

The building is old and outdated. The room was on the 3rd floor and you have to climb steps. There’s no elevator. The smoke detector in our room was pulled down I’m assuming to stop the beeping. Spend the money and stay elsewhere.

We felt unsafe and uncomfortable. The employees were very unfriendly. The deposit of $100 was separate and not refunded immediately at checkout. The breakfast was very limited and there was no seating available. The room itself had an offensive smell which was coming from the air conditioner. We turned it off and slept with the window open. Would not stay again, nor recommend it.

Easy to find it. They took $100! deposit. Next day they refused to refund it until housekeeping reports that nothing was wrong with the room. On the upper end of the scale for low, priced hotel rooms. Seems like it must’ve been a more expensive hotel at some point. Kept up nicely. Nice appointments in the room. Very happy with it.

Toilet backed up and staff at front desk would not help me use another bathroom in the hotel. Needless to say I was exasperated because I had to go very badly and I said please come quickly to help and he felt put out because i had an attitude. He refused to help me walk away and left me. Also 3:00 in the morning there was a party going on in the hallway and it went on for quite a while with no one stopping it. I was actually scared because of this craziness.

We had an excellent night at the Super 8 in Salem - our room was clean and had a fridge and microwave. The staff is the best! Peter, the manager, and Cathy, a staff member, were so helpful to me - going out of their way to help me deal with a difficult situation. This hotel is an excellent choice for the budget-conscious traveler. Thank you Peter and Cathy for all your help!!!

Didn't like the fact that i had to pay an extra $100 after the fact of already paying the room rent. Nothing was stated until the day of when i was going to check in. Since people only have so much money. I had to call a family member to write me money.
