Kahler grand hotel is one of the handiest properties if you are going to Mayo Clinics as it is right across the street! All of my appointments at Mayo Clinics were easily accessible via the subway system that connects to hotel subbasement which kept me from having to out in the chilly rain to get to my appointments. Very handy. The property was also in good repair despite they are in the middle of a remodel. All staff were friendly and helpful.

The Kahler is closest to the Mayo Clinic and easily accessible via elevators and the walking subway system. The renovations made since 2019 were less impressive. The rooms no longer had individual temperature/air controls, the desk personal were not familiar with hotel features as to how to access the pool as the direct elevator was not in service and whether or not towels were available there. Room service was available only upon request prior to noon. There was no prior notice that the front lobby was going to under construction and totally unaccessible with a circuitous detour to the mezzanine. The Kahler Grand has become much less grand.

This was suppose to be newly remodeled.The first elevator we tried to take didn’t even work. It would close the doors and wouldn’t move to the floor we pushed. We tried a couple times even pressing different floors. It was broke. Our room had no hot water. Took 15 minutes to get warm that night. The next morning it did the same thing. But wouldn’t get warm. We told them about this they asked if we wanted maintenance or to move rooms. We choose maintenance but the water got warm by then. Just to go cold once in shower. For what we paid this was a complete disappointment. All they said was sorry. Did nothing at all. Basically asked us if we called, which we did. So trying to put the blame on us. We stayed there because it was close proximity to the hospital. But when you are preparing for a surgery you aren’t expecting to change rooms or wait on maintenance. Once it was hot we thought it would stay that way. I will never stay there again. I asked for maintenance but they never sent it once I said the water was getting warm.

We’d stayed at the Kahler Grand previously and loved it. However, because we booked with Expedia this time (last time booked straight with the hotel), we ended up in horrible rooms. Booked more than one room for family as I had surgery at Mayo while we were there. Our rooms were on completely different floors, though I requested them together. Because we booked through Expedia, they would only allow us to have certain rooms. Our room was blazing hot. We called the front desk and they said they’d have maintenance come but they never did. We had our window open all day and night (it was Feb) and the room remained in the mid 80s throughout our stay. Very disappointing stay for several days. We won’t book again.

This hotel is close to the Mayo Clinic and many patients stay here. It was very loud with multiple young families attending a wrestling contest in Rochester, Would suggest that this is not a good combination for guests and at the very least, Young loud children should be housed on floors separate from patients.

Check in was easy. Although we had to pay to park, it was easy and convenient to get to our room. Room was clean and plenty of space. Dinner at Lord Essex was very good with friendly wait staff. Only complaints we have are water took a while to warm up for showers, there was cracks in the sink and someone had the leaf blower out at 5 am. We will be staying again.

A beautiful hotel with everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable & the cleanliness of the room was amazing! Close to the Mayo Clinic within walking distance street level or subway level. Defnately recommend.

The staff at the Kahler were pleasant and accommodating. The hotel was updated and clean. Proximity to Mayo couldn't be better. But the walls to the rooms and hall must be paper thin - I could hear the people talking in the rooms on both sides of me as if they were in my room!

When we booked the room we were not informed their restaurant was closed for renovations. This was one of the main reasons we booked it. The front desk staff was a little immature.

Room were small but clean. No accommodations for the price. Stayed other place for cheaper stay and free breakfast that was a lot nicer. Plus free parking. This place you pay $17 for one night of parking. Cheaper just to pay mayo parking. Or uber there.

The main reason we stayed there is that it is right across the street from the Mayo Clinic. The staff are eager to be helpful. One person in particular who deserves commendation is Xuan N in the Lord Exeter restaurant. He is not a waiter or host. He appears to be a busman and cleaner. He looks for opportunities to be helpful. We’ve been there three times recently and each time he went out of his way to do something to help us. One time we were waiting to be seated and he helped us. Another time he saw us trying to take a selfie and he offered to take the picture of us and the third time he noticed when we finished before our waitress and offered us boxes for leftovers and removed our dirty plates. What a gem!

Proximity to the Mayo clinic is about the only reason this place stands out. Front desk staff were barely pleasant, allowing a person to sit in the lobby with his cell phone blasting some foreign movie, room was only slightly bigger than the bed. Fridge froze my groceries, and little or no guidance on skyway use. Air grate in bathroom ceiling was filthy.

As for the front desk staff, we'll be sure to remind them that pleasantness is key, and perhaps we'll invest in some noise-canceling headphones for the lobby cell phone movie screenings. Regarding the room size, we apologize if it felt like you were sleeping in a human-sized cracker box. Our fridge seems to have taken its job a tad too seriously and decided to turn into a miniature Arctic freezer - we'll have a stern talk with it about defrosting etiquette!

I chose the Kahler Grand Hotel because it's directly across the street from the Mayo Clinic. The Kahler is an older hotel but in excellent condition and well maintain. The staff has been very helpful.
