Very disappointing stay
We were disappointed with our stay at the Buckhorn Inn. I had called the owner in the morning to let them know of our time of arrival and nobody was there to unlock the door for us. After waiting for twenty minutes we drove to the next restaurant to call them, since there is no cell phone reception at the Inn. Lucky for us, the owner happened to have dinner there but she barely apologized. Decor Is also extremely outdated and the breakfast was very mediocre as well. The Inn is currently for sale and it shows that the owners do not put their excitement, love and care into the running of the Inn. I would never go back there.

The house itself is beautiful and our room was spacious, comfortable and private. Breakfast was great, no comparison to what you get in a regular motel. We thoroughly enjoyed spending time on the front porch, very relaxing place. Sylvia was very helpful, friendly host and excellent cook. Worth the visit and stay.

Please updated photos on your site.
Rooms have been updated. Owners state they sent updated pictures to hotels.com but that hotels.com has not posted them. It would have been ideal to have correct pictures of rooms when booking.

This was a delightful experience and well worth travelling a little off-route. Sylvia was exceptional in customer service and friendliness. We enjoyed her sharing her knowledge of the history, which is why we chose the location, but any expectation was truly exceeded. Everything added so much to our 'historical tour' including Gettysburg, Boston, NYC, Niagra and DC. We could not recommend more the total experience: luxury, cleanliness, welcome, breakfast and general fellowship. It was truly a pleasure and addition to our goal of the trip. I wish we were close to take advantage of the professionalism, intimacy and historical quaintness, we know their catering would surely provide for something special... Thank you, Sylvia and Garlan! p.s. I only rated condition less than excellent, because Sylvia says Garlan wants it to be perfect, but is having trouble finding some of the tin rosettes for the ceiling to match the originals perfectly - which I would never have noticed!

I sent my wife and a few of her friends to the maple festival and a night at the Buckhorn inn. They all loved the inn and want to go back again next year.

A Slice of History
The review I'd read said the Buckhorn Inn was basic accommodations. I don't know what other people expect, but the place is a historical goldmine. It is extremely well kept with friendly hosts and every amenity you could need, such as a fridge full of cold water bottles and a full breakfast ordered to your liking. The food was amazingly delicious, with fresh fruit provided for all. The rooms are large and nicely decorated. Very comfortable. If you stay there, you are clearly there to enjoy the area so you know you are out in the country. The countryside is gorgeous with rolling hills and the mountains in the background. I highly recommend this inn.

This was exactly what I wanted. The service was top-notch, the inn was very welcoming, and breakfast was perfect. I will be going. back. It's off the beaten path and is perfect to relax. We didn't have cell service but that was great to detach from all that. (Verizon gets service but AT&T doesn't)

Buckhorn Inn
The Buckhorn Inn is a beautiful, relaxing, historic place. It has been well maintained and we had a wonderful time. It is isolated and the perfect spot to relax. We drove to Churchville for dinner and to Staunton for shopping/exploring. The innkeepers are lovely and served an amazing breakfast. The Thanksgiving buffet (additional cost) was fabulous!! The food was all home-cooked and was wonderful. We enjoyed our stay and look forward to visiting this lovely family and their home again.

Lovely place to relax, stars shine brightly
Lovely space away from it all, but just a quick drive into Staunton. Host was congenial as were his kids. The property had a calming effect on our children, and the host's children were particularly calm and friendly. I think the proximity to the forest and sense of quiet over there can be very good for kids. They had a nice swing and a sandbox for the kids, as well as chickens, rabbits (with baby bunnies at the time of our visit, and a cat who also just had kittens. So, this was a great place for the family to unwind. The room was perfect for a family of 4, two day beds and one king/queen for the parents.

Nice Getaway
Nice chance to getaway and relax. Easy access to Staunton. The place has interesting history and therefore is old with character, yet comfortable. Innkeeper, Sylvia and her family are wonderful hosts. Yes, we would stay there again.

One regret
The only regret I have is that we could not stay longer. We were in town only 1 night for graduation at mbc. The location was off the beaten path and perfect for relaxation. The Yoders are wonderful host and the place was immaculate. The homemade bread was great. When you go plan to stay for a while.

Lovely bed and breakfast
The Yoder family were so welcoming and warm. They put together a lovely happy birthday package for us and the cake was delicious. In fact, the breakfast was amazing both mornings! We would definitely stay there again. The only drawback is that it is far from town and the road very dark at night.

Disappointed
We expected more for a 3 star hotel. The bed was very uncomfortable and the A/C noisy. The owner offered us another room but we checked out after the first night. It was not conveniently located to what we wanted to see.The breakfast however, was wonderful.

Country Experience
The staff was very helpful. We enjoyed the history and19th century charm of the hotel . We arrived after nearby restaurants were closed so the hotel owner prepared a tasty supper for us. A wide variety of choices were available for breakfast.

Delightful
My wife, mother-in-law and I visited the inn during the government shutdown in 2013. The facility is clean and homey, and the couple running the inn are dedicated to making your stay enjoyable. And oh my, the breakfast was magnificent! The best at any B&B I've ever visited.

Perfect Historic Inn
Amazing innkeepers who are obviously proud of their very historic Inn. We were shown around the inn, told of its history and made to feel completely at home. The room was large and the porch was a great wind-down at the end of the night. Breakfast in the morning was amazing and the perfect way to start the day. Can't recommend this inn highly enough.

Great service and location, but the Inn needs work
My wife and I went to the Buckhorn Inn for our anniversary and had a great time. The proprietors, Garlan and Sylvia Yoder, were wonderful, and they served us a wonderful breakfast each morning we were there. We like to get outdoors and hike and get exercise, so the proximity to a lot of trails in the GW National Forest (the Inn is actually inside the National Forest) was great. It was still only 15 minutes outside Staunton, so we were able to go into town for a nice dinner and catch a play at the American Shakespeare Center. The only concern we had was the condition of the Inn, particularly the first floor. There was a strong, musty smell coming from the Banquet room that permeated the first floor--they really need to just tear out the carpet in there. The wallpaper in our room was discolored in places and probably needs to be replaced as well. That said, we didn't come to the Valley to hang out in our rooms, and the combination of a great breakfast, friendly hosts, and a great location were everything we could ask for.

JMU Parent's Weekend
Charming BB&B, circa 1811. Our first. One mist remember it's an old, refurbished house. There were room a/c units, but not in place as it is October. The rooms were very clean, thanks to inn keeper Sylvia. Breakfast was made to order and very good. No mobile cell service, but they made their inn phone available at no charge. Wi-fi was available, but only from one central spot. All-in-all, an excellent stay. Further updating of rooms would be possible in the future.

Rural experience
This is a very homely B&B in a genuine old property of a quirky nature. Breakfast was excellent, all home cooked. Dining in the evening is very limited in the area, nearest restaurant, very basic, is seven miles away. Four guests eat with the family, unexpected and unusual. Lady running it was very nice and gave us a history tour of the house.
