Trying but not quite a 4 star experience!

We had some highs and some lows at Hampton Inn Rolla. We had three rooms in total and one of them had a leaking toilet seal which made the room stink terribly. The hotel was fully booked that night so there was no where to move. They did comp the room, but of course, you would rather pay for the room and sleep comfortably than suffer through a smelly night, right? The front desk folks were nice. Mara was particularly helpful, friendly and, overall, just a delight. There is not a big set of choices in Rolla so I think that even given our experience, this is the best choice. They are renovating but some of the work is pretty shotty. Paint on the floor in my room and the "tile" wasn't cleaned from the boot marks of the night before. They were discarding "old mattresses" when we arrived and had them piled up in the front of the hotel. Maybe a more thoughtful process by management would have made this a little less ghetto when we pulled up! Not a good first impression although I appreciate that they are trying to better themselves.
